Looking at our squad

Vic - Kinksy
Porro - Spence
Romero - Dragusin
VDV - Danso
Udogie - Davies
Palhina - Grey
Bentancur - Bergval
Sarr - Bissouma
Kudus - Johnson
Maddison - Kulu
Tel - Odobert
Solanke - Richie

Thats 24 players, i can see Bissouma being the only one out of those 24 players leaving, with Madders and Kulu out we can bring in a player but when they are back the squad is going to be big with a lot of players missing out on bench spots on match day. I can’t see us doing much more business if i am honest. Not a lot of homegrown / trained players in that list either.

Gray and bergvall will be club trained by the time they are 21. B list 20.
Out of that. Mads, danso, odobert, davies, johnson, spence, solanke all hg.
If some of the u21s can step up (moore, donley, devine, philips...) we should be fine in the future.

My bad, that makes it even worse then.

It's fine. You want a 25 man squad. So at the moment it's your list, minus Biss, plus Austin and one of Vuskovic/Takai. 1 new AM signing takes Maddison's squad place for the year. 2 AM signings mean we can probably only use one of Dragusin/Vuskovic/Takai.

Vuskovic is off so one else challenge there

A 25 man squad so you are talking prem squad then?
How many times does it need to be said. Bergvall, gray, tell, odobert etc... will not be classed as in the 25 as they are u21?

Well let's be honest, it's a decent set of players but nothing special. I doubt Frank and the recruitment team have been sitting there all summer thinking 'I don't know how we're going to improve that squad'. We get better players in and we sell those who aren't as good, and with the likes of Tel/Odobert we could loan them out for them to continue their development. But yes, doubtful there will be much movement with little time left now.

The disappointing thing for me is Frank has shown he is adaptable and good tactically, so it would be great if he could be given the best tools possible to succeed in. But we are still short on real quality where other teams have invested in. I know things look rosy all of two games in, but it only takes a few injuries and/or the CL campaign to get going and we would yet again see the drop off in quality and results. Sure it likely won't get as bad as it did with Ange, but Frank doesn't stand a chance competing with the big boys which we allegedly want to do if he isn't given better depth....
Absolutely. However we finished 17th last year and if, as you say, the squad is nothing special then it would take a lot more than one summer to jump from 17th to competing with the big boys. It doesn’t happen very often for a team to make that kind of jump. Unless of course you rate the team higher than you’re suggesting.

For me success in the league is getting back into the top half with a stretch goal of getting into Europe again. It’s never actually crossed my mind we’d be fighting top 4.

Of course. And I definitely think we need to strengthen the squad. But it needs to be the right players, not just players for the sake of it.
We cannot panic and buy players who we aren’t 100% on
We are still addressing failings from our recent past
I’d rather we went for El Khanous because we at least know he knows the country and the prem.
we can then save the money for January or other windows

We never were 17th best personnel wise, the ridiculous injuries we had and then we the quite clear focus on the EL was the result of our league finish - but I really don't want to open up that debate again. We have a good first eleven that can compete, but the squad is not strong enough and that will take its toll as the season goes on.

Personally I would be disappointed if we could only muster a top half finish, but I wouldn't put that on Frank....

Kota Takai sends his regards

We finish where we finish
As is why the focus is always on what we’re missing rather than what we have …
We have added 20% more the first 11 and more to the squad
We also have changed the coaching set up which I think (and I’m sure others agree) will have its additional advantages
If people think we’re competing for the big trophies in Frank’s season one then that’s their view but not one i agree with
As I said a few minutes ago id rather not panic and buy the wrong players. It’s harder shifting brick than buying it
To compliment your post the squad is IMO much much better than fans credit it and is also quite flexible which again will suit Frank

It’s easily a top half squad as is. If we can add a couple, depending on the quality of them, then it could get interesting in terms of European places, but I’m not expecting any top 4 challenge in the league with what we’ve got, nor should anyone it’s totally unrealistic.
