Still have at least £130m to spend so they need to get their finger out.

Eze we agreed £60m for so we clearly have that sort of money.

Savinho we are offering £60m at the same time and are apparently willing to go to £70m so no excuses for not splashing the cash.
I doubt we have £130m to spend. Looking at what we have spent in total over last few summers and what we have spent so far this summer I think we will sign at most one more player. Possibly no more players as we have generally made max two "first team" signings on significant wages every summer and we have already done that so far in Kudus and Paulinha.

I get the school of thought where we should sign one. Would love Rogers to be that one player.

On the salaries part, just wondering what the impact of shifting Reggie, Forster and especially Sonny in this window will have on taking one more big salary onto the payroll. I checked the other day and Rogers is on £75k a week, contracted to 2030. His reasonably low salary is the only thing that gives me hope. He doesn't bleed Villa and has made previous moves in his career. There's always hope.

if levy's ambition is CL placings, he needs to fund the investments. all he has to do is to look at our injury list and the type of injuries we have now.

I have been among some of his (many) critics but it is not just a case of funding. Like with Paz, Villa will simply not sell - ay any reasonable price

Maybe our best bet now is buying a player from united or pool who they want to sell. Garnacho, Mano, Elliott…decent players. Maybe the stumbling block isn’t transfer fee but wages.

Tbh if we are getting to this stage, I would rather we focus on developing the likes of Odobert/Tel and just make do until Kulu is back and/or the January window is open where we have done well in recent years.

Some of the suggestions on here are beginning to get like buying for the sake of it which we don't need to be doing and would regret in the longer term....

I think that if we don't do Savinho we are done for the window.

And find money from somewhere.

I mean you could buy the club and buy the best players in the world if you had the money.

The difference is Eze was capable of lifting Palace. Paqueta not only is 28 and would take a huge fee. I'm not sure he's that good.
He's not that different than the supposed world class midfielder leading the scum....

It's just in assists that he was inferior last year but then the Wet Spam attack was so crap that the assist score needs to be interpreted in that circumstance.... as we saw for Kudus

Plus his all action and superior defensive style is probably a better fit into Frank's systems....

I think its more the eye test. Paqueta just never impressed me whenever I've watched him. Whereas Eze was invariably a stand out talent on the pitch. With "data led" thats what it means. At the end of the day you use data to determine which players to go and watch. You still watch them to give you your final judgement.

I think we do need one more attacking player post Son.

You are right - we have talent who's path way will be less clear if we sign players. But at the same time the afore mentioned are just 20 years old and developing. Sarr at 24 is coming into his own. There aren't many 20 year olds who are CL quality right out the box.

Personally I’m not upset we’re missing out on signings. It is a sign of us pursuing top players. Our position in the food chain isn’t as strong as the goons or Madrid. We’re not going to blow those clubs out the water with high wages either and we're not as celebrated. We finished next to the relegation places last year, and won the 2nd cup in europe. So we have to punt. An we need a free run at a player, if goons, madrid are in for them, we aren't going to sign them.

Rather than lament this, I'd be positive that we are after the right kind of signings and have secured two of the right singings. If we add a third who's of that CL calibre we're all set.
