Transfer speculation

It's the smart way to run a football club. We don't need marquee signings. They're a complete waste of money.

I'd look for players 21-24 years old. They'll have some experience at a high level, but plenty of room to improve and adapt to our style. After a season we can move on those that don't work out.

You need to add one or two new players to your core squad every year, but they don't have to be expensive signings. They can come from our existing pool of talent.

Spot on. How many "marquee" signings made it in the prem last season? fudge em, not worth it. If we can get promising youngsters in cheap, that's the way to go. Too much to lose on sissoko type transfers.

It makes sense on so many levels: financially and players develop in the way Poch wants. There is also the attractiveness of this model. It gives us identity. And for Poch himself it a good fit as he has a talent for teaching and developing. Poch will also want to see his players develop within the team and won't want to move on etc.

That said, if we can sign an Isco, or alternative 'ready made' player who fits with the mentality and club fiances, then we will. Sissoko wasn't that player, but Levy's always been open to instantly improving the squad with a VDV or alternative if they are available.

Mahrez will probably end up at Arse as a replacement for Ozil

If not, Saudi Sportswashing Machine is a good bet.

He has 1 year left on his deal. I don't see Arse allowing him to run it down and leave for free

There are a few clubs in Europe with deep pockets who might go for him

This is being discussed in the Goon thread, so probably best if we take it there.

Kelechi Iheanacho’s agent has confirmed the striker is on the verge of signing for West Ham in a deal expected to reach £20million.

The Nigeria striker was also being tracked by Everton and West Brom – but his agent admits a transfer to the London Stadium has virtually been finalised.

“Talks with West Ham are very advanced I must confess and barring any last minute hiccup he will end up joining them,” his agent told Own Goal Nigeria.

Has the talk of Demarai Gray cooled down? IIRC, he had a 12m pound release clause or something, and he seemed unhappy with the limited amount of time he was getting at Leicester.

He wouldn't be the worst option in the world, if we could get him for 12m. Young, supremely fast, reasonably tall (close to six feet, iirc), homegrown, acclimatized to the Prem. Wouldn't be a signing to get you out of your seat, but a good one with a lot of potential upside, perhaps.
