Transfer speculation

And thats why we are still looking for a player in that role. Neither Lamela nor Winks is that player. That is why I was so keen on Isco in January and would like to see Barkley. However, I think it is all likely to be moot as I expect Barkley to stay at Everton and continue to be their main man.

You should watch Winks more carefully. He can do several things. He can play the deep-sitting 'cycler' a-la Luka, he can play further up the pitch with his very smart, incisive and clever passing, he has a shot on him and he is tenacious. I don't think it is an enormous stretch to say that Winks surging into the squad was the catalyst to push Eriksen to really start consistently being all he can be. Lamela plays the wider role far better than Barkley, and I have not seen enough of Barkley's off the ball work to appraise this vital element of his game.

I think he is a supreme talent, but Redknapp's comparison with Gazza is a cheap one based on physicality and appearance IMO. Barkley lacks the guile of Gazza. What he does have is talent, strength and the potential to be a really great option should we require another way to break teams down/break through. My personal wish would be for a Pusilic, but given the fact Poch will likely want Prem proven players, Barkley could tick some great boxes and go on to be a great signing. All IMO.

I like the look of Winks although it is early days. I can see his potential but just not sure it is the Eriksen role he is most suited to at the moment. As I said, I think a Barkley or an Isco fits that bill better at this moment in time. Winks may grow into it in the future as he does indeed have the characteristics you describe. Lamela, not so much . Pusilic wouldn't be a bad shout either but we definitely need the squad strengthening in this role. IMO of course.

Weak squad links where an upgrade is required:

Wimmer - Poch obviously has lost confidence in him. Maybe Keane
Sissoko - never understood his purchase or the role he is expected to play. Maybe Zaha
Onoma - hasn't shown anything that says he should be in the squad. Maybe Barkley, Isco or Pusilic
NKD - maybe another season but if we get a Zaha is it really worth keeping him
VJ - definitely deserves another season.

Wimmer, Sissoko, Onomah, GKN to me are all gone and really the only one I would want to keep is Wimmer.

Striker position is open (I could see us buying if the right option came along), but VJ/Son pair can seemingly cover for HK
Eriksen cover is other obvious gap in squad

Poch has been looking for a winger/wide type for 3 seasons now (N'Jie, GKN, Sissoko), so wouldn't be surprised to see another potential come in there.

People seem to be forgetting that Onomah only turn's 20 later this month. He may well only have this next season to show Poch he's worth keeping around, but I think we'd be stupid to write him off so early in his career.
He might get loaned out next season (which would be best imo), but I doubt he will be sold outright.

I have no interest in Isco personally. He has no interest in us.

Thing is, Eriksen is a rare player thus irreplaceable in that sense. I have said my bit on Barkley thus if he rocks up at Wembley next season, all good. Wimmer has gone. I've also said my bit about Keane and think we should go all out. I also think we should go all out for Zaha myself; I thought so before and nothing has changed. porch would make him a worldbeater IMO.

Martial - get him for the £20M we were trying for instead of the £50m+ Man U paid. he must be off in the summer, I would guess PSG.

Yeah - Onomah is nearly 2 years below Winks.

I'd rather keep him around as a 23rd player though like he currently is. There's practically no better place in the world to be learning his trade than with Poch and shadowing Alli

It's a shame to think Martial would be beyond us (suppose his wages might be big). He would be perfect for Poch and us. Young gifted and powerful, sadly (for him) mourinho appears uninterested.

Trouble is any negotiation with a direct rival (same as Ineacheo) is gonna involve them wanting someone from us.

We will go for this type of talent for sure but like you say the wages are terrible and no team in the top 6 bar Everton will sell to us.

There are plenty of players that are on the market. We just have to spot and sign them 6 months before anyone else does.

Not easy but this is what we are working with. Not only that I look at the team and squad, no bad apples here.

If it was not for the team mentality we wouldn't have players tweeting rebuttals and jokes about speculation. Usually they stay quiet and kick off during the transfer window.

I think the players the media the fans know we could kick on from here for years to come.

I may be dreaming but while I can live in this dream state reality I will.

If Wimmer goes........Maguire from Hull
If Davies or Tripps goes......Fabio at Boro.
Sissoko....Just go...
Lamela...keep , unless we have doubts about his injury issues.
Onomah...perhaps prem loan next year.
Njie...sell
Think we'll get 40/50m for wimmer njie sissoko
Then get zaha or barkley or another.

Think we could break even easy in the summer window.

Others to think about.
Sessignon. Martial. Fosu-mensah. Inneacho. Brandt. Gray (Leicester).

Agree that it is too early to make a decision on Onomah although his appearances might be more restricted next year if Edwards steps up.

Pace up front is key and apart from Son we have no pace currently and although Zaha's form is very up and down he is the one I would go for unless there is a cheaper European alternative. Still feel that we are 1 striker short even if we retain VJ but difficult to find an alternative who would be prepared to sit on the bench for most of the season. Shane Long possibly?

Shane long is quick but was also born offside

He is also a player that cost southamton a lot of money and has an awful scoring record

id rather gamble on a kid than him personally

I doubt it's even based on that. He probably just remembers the same comparison having been made about three years ago by Hodgson (and Lineker as well) and then repeated by Roberto Martínez when he was the Everton manager.

Maybe the young lad from Forest. Ben Brereton then

Exactly the kind of prospect we should look at

I mention earlier in this thread the lad at Sampdoria too

I remember when we were linked with Tino Werner and people who watched german football said he went good enough. He now has 16 in 27 games fro Leipzig so has stepped up nicely

We need these gambles unless we wanna pay Big money

My mate and I were discussing this...we think it will be mostly Premiership-proven players.
I think we should make a massive bid for Michael Keane, ditto for Zaha as I believe Poch will improve him yet further...if I were going abroad, if I could get Pusilic then he'd fit the ticket for me, but my mate reckons we might try for Schurrle (can't see it myself)...if we got Keane and Zaha I'd be very happy. I think Keane is important; quality, proven, England international now and left-sided (given that we'll move Wimmer on)...on the fence re: Barkley, that would be one where I would be trusting the manager to find his extra gears.

Steff, that's the second time you've stated that Wimmer is gone in this thread; You didn't reply to my question earlier in this thread, so i'll ask again: why are you so categorically sure Wimmer is going?
Is "your mate" (or yourself) In The Know?
