Transfer Rumour Thread

Watford manager on Townsend: “He has the characteristics that we are looking for. We have players in the side who can play intelligent football but we need skill and velocity. We need to make a balance with these players and he has the characteristics.”

He needs someone who's not that bright, okay.

Flores is also keen on free agent Emmanuel Adebayor: “I can understand why a lot of clubs in England want to sign Adebayor. He’s 31, he has quality, he has experience, he has goals. So I understand that he can choose where he wants to play in the Premier League.”

I'd like Townsend to go to Watford. They seem an upwardly mobile club with a progressive coach, unlike Saudi Sportswashing Machine or West Brom.

Me too. I think Townsend will prosper somewhere like there, I think he has some good attributes and could just do with consistent game time where the competition isn't as strong. Much like Capoue who is flourishing...

Townsend has not complained for being banished to the U21s, in fact he has done quite well. So deserves another chance, ideally on the left where he can deliver a beautiful ball, on the run.
Against Leicester's pace he would be worth having on the bench, especially if we need to do a Maginot manoeuvre, when Leicester park their bus and rely on their counter attacking speed.
He's played in almost 100 games for us. I think he's got a fair amount of chances already, and he's failed almost every time.

According to Wiki it says 50? Also its not as simple as saying hes had x number of games, he has to of played in a consistent amount of games to be judged properly.
I remember him having a block of games at some point, but in the main its been a couple of games here and there....

He's played 93 games for us in all competitions. Pretty close to 100 I'd say.

Why does that mean he deserves a chance ahead of all the players that are better than him? He's utter gash. If we have a few minutes of playing time to spare, bring on some 18 year old.
Is he really utter gash?
A full England International, who has played well at that level; a fast direct winger who can actually beat a man both sides and cross with both feet; shoot with both feet and is actually a good athlete and therefore a good fit for Poch's pressing game, yet you consider him to be utter gash?

Are any of our so-called wingers more effective and have all those qualities?
Poch may want him out, fine, but while we pay his wages, he should be used, without prejudice, imo.

He is gash if compared to other PL players. The fact that he plays for England speaks volumes for the lack of quality English players.

He is NOT fast. Complete myth. He has a direct style, head down and run straight ahead, but has less end product than any of our other players that can play in the same positions. Defensively he is poor.

It's only through his stubbornness that he is still here when he could be playing every week in the Championship and still make good money.

You really think being a good athlete is enough to be a good fit for Poch's pressing game?

Townsend has potential, he's not utter gash. But his skill set doesn't seem a good fit for our style of play and for all the things he "can actually" do he doesn't do successfully at a high enough frequency for us.

Yes. Our other wide options are more effective. Undoubtedly. If you choose to call Townsend a winger whereas our other wide options are not wingers in the traditional sense that's fine. But that also means that we play without a winger most of the time.

Fast? No he actually isn't very fast. When was the last time you saw him beat anyone with raw pace? Certainly when tracking back, they all just blast away from him! Crossing he doesn't do much, and usually when he shots (which he does far too often), it ends up in row Z. Good athlete I'll give you. He might be the right fit for a club, but not for us. He's just too ineffective.
