Transfer Rumour Thread

Physicality is one of the most important attributes for a centre half. Caulker was strong, had good pace and was also excellent in the air. I think the hope with these sorts of players is that the positional sense and decision making can be coached into them. Some players just aren't able to take it in however. I wonder whether Caulker was such a player?

Agree. But Caulker was bullying kids 2 feet shorter than him in academy football, rather than competing with powerful adults

Jonjo Shelvey: "I drove up throught the night to be here"

Somebody was desperate to get away from the sinking ship that is Swansea.

Seriously, what went wrong there? They have a club philosophy they stick pretty rigidly to, a core of good players and no financial or internal troubles as such: so what was the issue?

Michael Laudrup.

Now they're reaping what he sowed.

In what way? I cant remember who said it (but probably a podcast) about how Laudrup was not a great manager and would leave any club in a worse state. What did he do to Swansea?

From the stories that were doing the rounds, he continually left Swansea to it, heading for breaks not too often. Not sure if there was any truth in it, but it seemed like he took the glory for any win but then would run.

£12 million for Shelvey.... jesus... makes you wonder if Alli is a £30 million players already when you see that. IMHO that it crazy and all it does it sets the goalposts for all future tranfer fees for English players.

As mentioned he never did any work on the training ground and, like Koeman at Southampton, was coasting on the back of the work of previous managers.

Also selling their main striker to an Arab club for £7m if it goes through (Gomis)

It's as if their preparing to go down

Unduly harsh on Townsend that. I agree with the end product argument, but Shelvey isn't consistently churning out top draw performances either.

I'm with GB. If Shelvey is worth £14m then us asking the same for Townsend is fair.

Townsend has not complained for being banished to the U21s, in fact he has done quite well. So deserves another chance, ideally on the left where he can deliver a beautiful ball, on the run.
Against Leicester's pace he would be worth having on the bench, especially if we need to do a Maginot manoeuvre, when Leicester park their bus and rely on their counter attacking speed.

Why does that mean he deserves a chance ahead of all the players that are better than him? He's utter gash. If we have a few minutes of playing time to spare, bring on some 18 year old.

Watford manager on Townsend: “He has the characteristics that we are looking for. We have players in the side who can play intelligent football but we need skill and velocity. We need to make a balance with these players and he has the characteristics.”

He needs someone who's not that bright, okay.

Flores is also keen on free agent Emmanuel Adebayor: “I can understand why a lot of clubs in England want to sign Adebayor. He’s 31, he has quality, he has experience, he has goals. So I understand that he can choose where he wants to play in the Premier League.”

He hasn't been banished to the u21's he has asked to play there so that he can be fit and ready when he goes, which will no doubt be the tail end of the window .He is a decent player but not quite enough end product for where we want to be now.
