Transfer Rumour Thread

Fair enough. I only saw the guy once against us and can't really remember that far back. Sounds closer to VDV from that description.

Marin, Mata, Merieles, Ramieres, Essien, Lampard, Mikel, Romeu, Malouda. I know some of these play farther forward but that's quite a collection.

Its a collection of good, at best very good (for a couple of them), players however I wouldnt say that its that much better than that. Not really sure either how you get Mata and marin into the same team or what formation you would play with that bunch.

Without wanting to turn this into another thread which compares us vs others, I would prefer Modric to all of those, whilst Bale is a better winger than all of those (if he stays wide!) and its debatable whether Essien (post injury) is better than Parker. Granted if you played 4-3-3 you might go with parker/Essien + Modric + Mata but I would back our midfield against that lot

Borussia Dortmund have confirmed the sale of Lucas Barrios to chinese club Guangzhou Evergrande.

Will no doubt earn a bucketload of money there

That's just ridiculous, its one thing for over the hill players to be going to these places but someone like Barrios?!

Football is going to look very different again in 10 years time....

china will overtake the US in global economy terms in 2020. bricks going to be quite different, never mind football

Not convinced, china is thriving under cheap labour and an oppressive government. The more money comes in the country, the more the standard of living rises and as a result Joe Bloggs wants more money. The end product being that China no longer becomes an epicentre of cheap labour and its industry has to evolve or it gets left behind.

Same thing happened in Britain, why we ceased to be an industrial power, we moved to service, technology and specialist goods as we could no longer compete with cheap imports from overseas which were driven by cheap labour.

Its a long way from competing in the service/luxury goods/tecnhology industries as everyone else has a significant head start. At the moment they are forced to import most of their skilled labour and luxury goods which bolsters the GDP of the exporting countries.

Oops just realised went a bit off topic....FOOTBALL!

ha! i think its relevant to football, I wouldnt have mentioned it but the guys gone to china instead of us. Very odd move.

anyway, I cant see football moving there wholesale despite the economy. they tried it in the US and middle east and its basically proven that Europe is where football is king. On the other hand, booming Brazil might start to weaken our draw for top South American players.

Except in the FA cup.

Sorry...still a raw nerve there.

Bayern are missing Badstuber, Alaba and Luis Gustavo. They are a bit fudged at the back. In the papers this week there has been talk of Timoschuck (sp) coming into the back four!! Lahm will probably go into left back with Rafina (!) playing on the right. Add to that they have lost their defensive midfielder and they look a beat weak defensively.

Van Buyten will probably be back, they can still manage a very strong team.

--------------Neuer
Rafinha--Van Buyten---Boateng---Lahm
-------Kroos---Schweinsteiger------
Robben-------Muller----Ribery-------
-------------Gomez

That is some team!

I dont agree with this. He's an employee and he's under contract...him being happy has little to do with if he stays or not for me. as long as he performs on the pitch and acts professional then thats reallly all that matters.
Its also important not to bow to player power as well

i take it you would have sold him last summer and you indeed called for it? i'm glad levy didnt follow that line of thinking to be honest otherwise we wouldnt have even had the season we have had so far

do you remember games that we have played without modric? west brom aside (and even that was ouch and go for large spells) we have looked extremely pedestrian and void of ideas.

its easy to point fingers and say that we dont need modric, especially when we are doing badly......its easier to find fault all over the place at that juncture....but would you then say the same about the likes of ade, lennon, sandro, parker, bale, kaboul etc etc? all players that tecnically havent performed well during our bad run.

another thing i wouldnt mind raising is that you say that we sell him and use it to invest in the squad...how many players does that get us? and are any of them better footballers than modric? if not then why sell him? Unless we are flat broke that we cant buy players without selling?

i dont get the idea of selling your best players. it makes no sense to me. you'd have sold him to chelsea and we would have been well and truly fudged then

No I would not have sold him last year, if at all possible I would not sell him this year but I am just sick to the back teeth of bad media, we had Modric going then Redknap going and coming up possibly Modric and Bale going all through the summer, we can sell our fringe players but even Levy wont get considerable sums for any of them, with the stadium build coming up and the need to improve our squad to turn down ?ú40m for Modric would be hard, I dont think Modric has played badly also I think his attitude after the summer fiasco has been good its just accepting hard facts, I repeat I definately would not have sold him last summer on principle alone.

Villas Boas top take over at Roma, Marvin Martin going to Lilles.

We're in for Tim Wiese, german goalkeeper according to lequipe.fr.

Wiese is according to his agent also wanted by Real Madrid, Inter Milan, Milan Ac, Juventus...

No rumour as such but, say Modric does go at the end of the season for silly money.

Id like Dembele to replace him in the same role. Dembele is still relatively young, skilful, can beat a player, has a good range of passing and is of a reasonable size (6 ft1). Probably be had for 10m?

Dembele's range of passing is rather poor, imv. Agree about everything else though - he's a very technical player and could really thrive in our setup.
