Transfer Rumour Thread

maybe some made up crap will rub off on the club....they seem clueless recently...

not surprising though is it..when youpay mega bucks for players who then turn out to be complete and utter flops!

so no rumors then?

another poor window...just heard le arse have strengthened their team!....oh well.....

We've actually made double the average number of signings this window.

There have been 10 players signed by EPL clubs this window - 0.5 per club. One of the 10 was Yedlin, so we're on 1.

But its so easy to sign players, why don't we just go out and buy one of the top goal scores in say the Spanish league. Its bound to work out. Or we can just go and buy the next wonder kid from seria a. Lets face it West brom will just bend over and let us shaft them in the middle of the season so i cant see why a deal cant be done there.

Lets panic, lets just ignore signing the guy from Southampton. Lets not worry about the stadium. LETS JUST BUY SOME ONE!!!!!!!!!!!!! ANY ONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! AHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

Yedlin was signed in the summer though.

We're not going to sign anyone this window are we? The last time we had anything resembling a good January was in 2010 when we got Kaboul and Gudjohnsen in. Since Pompey gave us Kaboul back because they still owed us money from his transfer the first time, you have to go back as far as 2009 to get our last January signing that cost MORE THAN £3m!

It's a shame. Last time we pushed the boat out and got Defoe, Keane and Palacios we top form for the rest of the season and would have easily qualified for Europe if we hadn't been in the relegation zone in January. The year before that we signed Woodgate and Hutton who both played key roles in winning the Carling Cup a month later. But since 2009 we've hardly done any business in January, I know it's easier to sign top players in the summer, but given that we missed out on CL football by one point in 2012 and 2013 then it's frustrating to say the least when we're only 3 points off 4th now.

I'm not too bothered if we don't sign anyone this window, it's more important to see unwanted players depart. I'd still like to see 2 or 3 more exits from the club this week, usual suspects.

Defoe, Woodgate, Palacios were all January signings, so we can sign decent players in January

It's just been the last 2-3 January seasons we have failed to use the window (big miss in my opinion)

pretty much this.

I don't really think there is anything out there really worth going for...in the sense that we would be charged an arm and a leg.

some on here realise we have a bloated squad.....35 senior players....we definitely need to clear the decks and sell quite a few.....I wont be disappointed if we sign no one because I am not expecting us to bring anyone in.

how does it work now? poch decides on the type of player he wants, mitchell finds the data to support it, both go to committee for clearance, baldini starts wining and dining ?

you missed the bit after Baldini.....Levy agrees a fee with club x only to try and run the fee down a few days later....

In all seriousness I have not got the foggiest what goes on........Phil Mitchell, A smooth talking curly haired Italian, An ambitious young Argentine coach, followed by the man who fights for every pound.....Lets hope they can all pull together and start making signings which improve us.

This summer will be very interesting, I think with the stadium and having been stung in the past when buying players with no sell on value I can imagine we will be looking for players within 16-25 bracket, any young talent we could snap up would be welcome......

I liked the look of R Ince at Brighton the other night....I reckon he could be an excellent defensive midfielder in a few years....but we need a few signings for now I guess If Soldado & Ade dont last then we need to get in some firepower this summer and some pacy wingers would be nice.

From what I've read before, there are only 4 people on the committee - Levy (financial sign off), the coach (needs), the DoF (solutions) and the Secretary (technical legal/contract info)

I'd expect Mitchell's work would feed into what Baldini brings to the table in terms of data-led (i.e. algorithmic) projections of external talent, and what Poch brings in terms of data-led projections of internal/youth development.

I think Mitchell will be doing a lot of the looking at internal talent as well, from the interview with him whilst at Southampton (or the whole piece on Southampton) i am sure there was reference to him giving facts (or whatever) about there youth players that could step up and when they are likely to be able to step up.
