Yeah - sorry, that's right. He was actually not very good in France but then suddenly came to life in Germany (a league which seems a much better marker of likely success in the EPL).

I still don't rate him though, and he's not especially young.

I think he's a superb finisher, I really do. It's his all round game. When watching Saudi Sportswashing Machine, for a big lad he doesn't seem to get involved match, that's where Demba Ba outshines him, Ba likes to get involved. Even when Ade was dogbrick at this worst last year he done his best to at least drop deep and get involved, Cisse just tends to stay on the last man and that just isn't his game, he must have scored at least 10 goals that were called offside last year, even though about half were on mind you.
 
neither are going to improve beyond what they are and neither will be cheap enough in transfer fee and wages to make a move very likely

would rather sign someone with potential to be top level than a player at their peak who we know isn't

Would not be happy taking him on as first choice. As third i'd have him, however a move to Chelsea tend to leave one with an overinflated value of their own self worth, so we would be unlikely to afford his wages. He's rumoured to be on 80-100k.

I'm not saying I want him, I'm just pointing out that Ba is not a flash in the pan (something which he's been accused of being every season since he's moved to this country). After how many seasons do you stop trying to pass someone off as a one season wonder?

Me? I'm not trying to pass him off as anything. Just i don't think he'd be good enough as first choice, worth the outlay on fee, wages and we'd be helping Chelsea get someone off their books.


By definition a one season wonder is one season..

Wait, what? It was a rhetorical question, my original post wasn't even directed at you considering you hadn't even offered an opinion on either Ba or Cisse!

Can't see that

i) We'll sign a senior CB this year when our pressing priorities are elsewhere

ii) Ajax will sell two major players this summer (they traditionally do one a year - Verts '12, Suarez '11 etc.), and Eriksen is off to Dortmund.

i can see it because...

1) a centre back is a priority as Dawson and Vertonghen are the only reliable defenders we have. Kaboul seems to be picking up injuries and only has one year left on his contract, and Caulker needs more time to learn.

2) Ajax may only sell 1 major player each summer, but this summer they have Eriksen and Alderweireld who both only have one year left on their contract and a club like Ajax cannot allow either to go for free in a years time. So Alderweireld definitely is an option for us
 
Eriksen will be sold and one of Alderwereld / Siem de Jong

Alderwereld is more likely as he's more well known.
Rudi Voller was watching him for Bayer Leverkusen on Friday.
 
brick load of money for someone who wouldn't add much to our team. We'd probably get Bernard for less than €20m
