Tottenham Hotspur V IF Elfsborg

VDV could be in the squad for Thursday, surely this will mean that Romero will be as he was training last week

So long as they’re both fully match fit this time and not being rushed back, like for the Chavski match, only to re-injure themselves within 90 minutes and then be out for another month.

I'm not worried about Romero and VDV playing against Elfsborg on Thursday night.

It's the warm down training session on Friday morning I'm worried about. :)

No resting players here. It's absolutely crucial that we avoid two extra games in February.
If people are right that we're in a relegation fight, that relegation is looking not only possible, but likely I guess it makes sense to rest players for the EL and FA Cup at a minimum.

If we're actually in that situation nothing other than staying up matters.

That's not my point of view though.

If we want to get something resembling a decent season as a possibility those two weeks in February to me look crucial. I personally hope we get that and get that with Ange. But even if he's replaced before that I think those two weeks are just as important.

Are we in trouble in the league? Yes.

So we think that with our full team we can't get enough wins to pull us up the table? I believe so and we have a 7pt gap over the bottom three.

February is going to be a big month. Lots of players coming back. They will have had a rest.

Imo id like us to go out with the best we can pull together to win in Thursday. That said we can still use a couple more of the squad to help.

Play Lanshear up front with Moore. We can afford to play youth in less vulnerable positions. Biss if fit rested whilst out.

I'm as distraught as the next guy. But I still have hope. This could end up being a crazy season. We get our players back fit and rested for the run in. We have a chance in three cup competitions.

Have faith our players coming back will pull us away from the bottom of the league.

Survive the season and finish wherever. Win the UEFA cup and then champion League next season.

Is it somewhat of a moot point though due to player availability. Our strongest team is sort of our weakest team when you're counting bodies. Then you factor in the EL squad restrictions and it gets even smaller.

In the very near term, the only way we could change that is to get the younger players involved. That may not mean the 16, 17 or 18 year olds that Ange has chosen to put on the bench. That could be grabbing a few of the older U21 players and using them instead. Example is Cassanova who is 4 years older than Hardy but plays the same position. I don't really know the age profile of the 21s but guess there could be some older lads in there.

Personally, I keep looking at the spine. It's Romero and VDV being available in defence. It's Bissouma and Sarr getting fit enough to join Bentancur in rotation. It's Richi staying fit and getting stronger. Then we can use the squad to get Porro, Kulu, Gray, Bergval, Son etc rotated and re-energised as the next 2 or 3 come back. Then I think we'll look a different team again.

Moot point perhaps. Not least because other than maybe Lankshear I can't see others than Moore from the academy being given a start.

But in terms of what people are actually asking for if they're asking for fairly heavy rotation to rest players in this game both those 20/21 year olds likely to be on their way out of the club fairly soon and those 17/18 year olds that probably aren't ready for that kind of step up would have to be included

Yeah, I don't think we're in that position just yet. We have 15 PL games to salvage something and we probably have a pretty solid idea of our injury returnee schedule. When I had a look, I could see that the entire squad is back by end of March. We have some very important short term relief with Romero and VDV. Even if we lose Sarr, Biss and Madds then we can now manage it like Pep would. He has no problems moving those centre halves into midfield and that would apply to Romero. We know Gray slots into the 6 or 8 anyway. With Bents, Berg and Kulu we'd manage. Hopefully we'll get some better news on Biss, Sarr and Madds shortly anyway.

Just like the entire season, it will be that front three that will come under pressure. Whether it's fatigue, injuries or form it seems we can always get more out of the attacking part of our squad. I think that is where you're right with Lanks and Moore being important squad players. I think Ange should have a proper look at Scarlett as well. He's not lightweight and is probably more suited to the Solanke role than we think. Solanke doesn't feel pressure to score goals in our system which is almost set up for the others to score around him. If we did lose Richi, the 2 young lads sharing 90 isn't as bad as some people think. I would go as far as saying it is a better option than playing Son at 9. Son might even be better deployed on the right.

Ange's presser; VDV to get some minutes tomorrow. Sarr and Bissouma available.

Spence available for Brentford. Confirmed Maddison out for 2 weeks. I didn't hear any mention of Romero.

so the report that i saw on X saying he is out for the season might be wrong..... shocked!

Great news to get some mins for VDV

He said Romero returning is not imminent. They're taking their time with him.
