My concern is not about Toby leaving as I think that is now a given, but rather as to who we sell him to
I’ll be honest, I don’t recall thinking Kane, Dele, Vertonghen, Dembele, were off just before they signed a new contract don’t know who you’re referring to? There’s never any factual indicators that a player is going to leave bar the manager or player himself saying so. That’s obviously not going to happen so you can only look at the clues. There is zero to imply he’s going to stay, plenty to suggest he will go. If you want to be dismissive of those things or make out like they’re just negotiating tools - heard the exact same thing with Walker. Facts are the very thing Spurs fans get wound up about where people mention us not paying top wages is true no more so than for players approaching their last big contract. No conincidence that it happened to Walker being at that stage at around the age of 28 and same looks likely with Toby....
We have Sanchez, playing well, we dont need to rush Toby in. We can wait until he is actually, fully, ready. And given his few games since getting back to "fitness" it seems valid to me he isnt back in the team yet.
Alternatively, one could argue then that as long as Sanchez and Jan stay fit then there would be no reason to play Toby at all for the rest of the season.
Like I say, you are just putting on positive spin on quite obvious indicators. It can be easily done with just about anything. You also ignore the fact a poster on here has a decent source saying he’s off. But hey, that’s probably just another negotiation tool. Like most others I’ve accepted he’s going, and am actually not overly concerned judging by our strength as a team to perform without key players and ability to recruit well. But I will be concerned if he goes to a direct rival, that’s my only concern....Zero to imply he will stay, except his total professinalism, his public support of the team, his positive social media presence...
No, nothing - its obvious he is going, isnt it? Because people on the internet cant handle the lack of instant gratification...
It is quite possible he will go. Im not saying he wont. Im just pointing out - theres actually nothing supporting that at this time other than he isnt playing (injured) and silence (standard from the club).
That silence, that "why is it taking so long", that "We dont pay enough/player wants a last big pay day" stuff has been seen many times before - with Walker being the only one who didnt renew his contract.
And while people keep using Walker as an example - they seem to forget that Poch seemed really quite happy to cash in on him.
But, for some reason, random conjecture on footy forums is substantial proof he is off...

maybe Poch is really happy to cash in on Toby too....we shall see in the summer
No, Im not - Im pointing out the "quite obvious indicators" are really not that substantive at all.
well we are never going to get clear cut indicators. It is always conjecture, rumour, guesswork.
Which, more often than not, comes to nothing.
So, based on the way things usually go, is it really so wrong to suggest people keep their powder dry at this point?
so what we cant talk about Toby, his contract, him not being in the side?
Not at all, rather - it seems frankly quite silly for people to be so certain the player is leaving and bemoaning the fact before theres any real reason to go down that train of thought.
