Toby Alderweireld

Mane is on 100k plus/Salad will Be shortly if not already (hopefully for Real) - Firmino the same Courinho was as well.

I can’t imagine Henderson is far off!

But that’s recent changes and increases

And will be off set with sales too

Expect firmino will get a pay rise their too

You mean as in Spurs go bankrupt?
We’re in a great financial state and better off than most sides in the world so that’s not gonna happen

The supporters of those clubs that got busted or almost got busted also thougth "It never gonna happen" It all about economy, income and spending. So in principal even Spurs can go bankrupt, we are not protected, that would be just too naive to consider.

No one is protected but no big club that hasn’t been mismanaged has gone under

How would us not selling him to an English team lead us to go bankrupt?

Has Levy made us all money mad?

Under no circumstances should we be selling the best CB in the league to anyone in England![/QUOTE

It would if you look at it with a broader perspective. If we only would allow players that wants to leave to go abroad and selling abroad would generate 10% less (an example), the club will consider their spending due to the "reduced" income. (Reduced at least compared to what the club would have be given if the players was sold domestic).

So for me its a clear connection between less income and bankrupt.

If my memory serves me right, no-one (or at least very few) would call Leeds as mismanaged before the downfall really started. So mismanage is a tag that i most cases are set afterwards.

Yeah is easy to say after the event

But Leeds were known at the time to be in big problems

They started negotiations with Seth Johnson from Derby by saying they wouldnt pay him anymore than a figure (can’t remember the number) but it was 4 times his current salary which they had never asked

Can you imagine a competent club doing that??

What if he only wants to move to an English side?

40m+ this summer or 25m next and a season with a player who is mostly 'injured'

Damaging ourselves to make a point

Is anybody else still a bit annoyed (and perplexed!) as to why DL allowed such a ridiculous release clause to be placed in his contract!! I still can't see any advantage to us in it?? And they're not daft, they must've known how the market was shifting, so £25m for one of our prized assets is an absolute joke!

If it was the only way he'd sign for us would you rather we hadn't bothered?

If that kind of release clause was the only way he'd sign for us, shouldn't the alarm bells have been ringing back then?? That smacks of wanting an easy way out if things don't improve for him (which arguably they have, looking at where the club is now!)

I'm not as clued up on the contracts as others i'm sure, but I don't know of any other players that have this kind of release clause (i.e, triggered if he gives us another year and at such a low value!!).

It's the amount that sits uncomfortably with me. The thought that our rivals are licking their lips at the prospect of signing one of the best CBs in the league, possibly Europe, for an absolute snip of £25m.

The thing with a contract is both sides have to be happy to sign it, or it doesnt happen.

From his point of view, looking after himself is no bad thing.

From the clubs point of view I dont think anyone envisaged the market shifting such that a player we bought for £12m would end up making a £25m release clause look like peanuts.

Its life.

Im still far from convinced its all doom and gloom either, with the way the club is going I think theres every chance he will sign on.

Are we sure he is even going?

It happens time and again, all this sort of press and then before you know it the famous Poch new contract pose...

I think the situation has been exacerbated by the supposed "injury" the club say he has vs. the fitness he and Belgium FA seem to be portraying.
I know Poch likes to bring them back slowly, but in this instance it's just adding fuel to an already very hot media fire.

Quite possibly. Though personally I fitered out media hype a long time ago, it doesnt bother me.

I think its pretty obvious when situations beng reported are "genuine". This one? Im not convinced yet.

AS to Toby playing, the couple of appearances he did make he didnt look half his usual level - I can well understand Poch taking him back a step.

Really?? I disagree. I think the market shift has been on the cards for a long, long time now. The businessmen would've seen it too. It's got out of hand granted, but there were many players going for ridiculous fees & wages around the time Toby signed to suggest it was only going to get higher

I certainly hope you're right! I'm in the same camp as i have been for Rose. That is, hoping the media hype is all BS and that Poch can get the player back to his best form rather than ship them out.
I look at that back line of Walker, Toby, Jan and Rose from a season or two ago, and it was ridiculously good for, esp when i've been used to the likes of Atouba, Nethercott, Edman, Wipey, Calderwood, Treacle, Scales, Doherty etc. haha
To see us with the best defensive record in the league was a massive step as a club. It's not something you'd associate with us.
Losing Walker wasn't easy to take, but let's not lose anymore. For all the good work Davies and Davinson have done, our defence definitely hasn't looked as solid this year.

Yes, really.

Who would have thought, two years ago, the following summer we would pay £40m for a rookie CB who had only a year in european football, in a league that is lower standard than the premiership?

I think people have "normalised" to just how batsh!t crazy prices are now.

They were high, and odd players were really high - usually to super rich clubs.

That didnt, for me, indicate ALL clubs would start spending to such levels.

Liverpool have agreed £75m (I think?) for a rookie midfielder in Germany. Thats just shy of Bale, which not long ago was at the very top of transfer levels.

Thats utterly fudging mental, the whole market is, I dont think its unreasonable to believe when we bought Toby that we thought £25m was a decent level to set the release.
