Timo Werner

Not good enough to start yes. Nothing has changed there. Bring him on when the game is done against tired legs with little pressure and it’s ideal for him.

Basically a German version of Adama Traore and so long as Johnson or Solanke can get into position for him to square the ball to after sprinting past opposition’s RB then a useful option to have off the bench.

He attacks space
His finishing is horrendous but then some players are like that and cost even more (Nunez)
He is a stop gap and a running machine
We would have real issues in squad depth without him because of the injuries we have had wide

It was fab to see him scorching Walker to set up the last goal.
I read somewhere that it looked almost as though Walker decided not to go at full speed, but just to track, then to use his pace to catch up when needed -- basically what Walker has spent most of his career doing. Except that it's not working any more.

Watching that move again, it might have been different if Walker had turned on the afterburners right from the start.

Wonderful "ah fudge it, I'll just run faster than you" moment. No skill, no trickery, just running really quickly.
Football can be a simple game sometimes. Many players have built careers on their ability to fun fudging fast with the ball. If they can finish, even better!

Although I was having a great time celebrating the goal, I couldn't help but feel sorry for Walker in a sense. Someone on here compared it to the Bale / Rio Ferdinand moment when a top level players realises that they might not be quite at the level anymore. A fair few misdemeanours on a personal level but generally seems like a nice guy, I didn't begrudge him the move to City, he's won a brickload of trophies and earned a fortune so it's not like it hasn't worked out for him but it looks like a rough end to it.

He probably should've joined back up with Kane in the Bundesliga, City have of an issue in that position and hopefully don't see Porro as the solution.

However, back to Werner, what an assist. It's pure instinct and signs of a good system when a player can set someone up without even looking. Since day one for us, Timo has been able to get past a player and cut the ball back into a dangerous space and he works hard. If we conveniently avoid the finishing aspect he's the complete package!

No-one will ever take his Spurs TV Hallowe'en pranks away from us!

A lot of that City team looked old on the day, Walker has been amazing because of what he's done with raw pace and hard work (look how long ago Rose fell off). I think City made a huge mistake in squad building, really looks like they expected Pep to leave, so they let the squad carry on a season or two too long, likely with the expectation that new manager would rebuild, lots of thinking to do now.

The squad response to Werner said a lot as well

Slight Bale against Maicon vibes. I know I know, Bale gave Maicon the runaround in many ways, but some of that was just knocking the ball past him and motoring past.

Walker probably will recover somewhat better than Maicon did. And Werner probably won't quite reach Bale's heights...

Iirc I think there was a Bellamy vs Ferdinand moment as well?
