Timo Werner

It's perfectly possible to be a better fit for the system and yet be rightly behind another player because that other player is just better. I think that about him.

Horrible form in front of goal, and also playing below his usual standard elsewhere imo. But he's a decent player. If he regains form he'll be a useful player. If he doesn't we have other options now with Odobert back and Moore breaking through. That's great. If that means Werner doesn't get the chances to regain form that's football.

Regardless of his woeful finishing I still don’t see how he is better for the system. Surely the player that has more end product and produces more for the team is the one who is better for the system? He should be 4th in the pecking order now behind Son, Moore and Odobert and should only get minutes if all of the above are unavailable.

Spare a thought for Chiesa.. Everyone was raving about him as a favoured wide forward option in the summer, With many disappointed he ended up at Liverpool... Yet he has only played a total of 18mins of PL football so far this season and there is already talk of him going back to Italy in Jan!

I don't think the conversation around Werner is any different from 1 week, 1 month or 3 months ago.

He is tinkle poor at finishing. He has a real big mental block with it. I don't see that changing.

The rest of his game is pretty good. That includes crosses/delivery.

The reality is we need our wide left man to contribute 10-15 goals a season, we will never get that from Timo.

And the pressure will come from our other LW options....Moore is rising and Oderbert is back. I just don't see Timo as someone that will rise to that challenge.

I get why we took him on again as Oderbert wasn't signed by then and Moore was still a long shot to make an impact this season but it looks more likely that in 10 weeks when January arrives there's a big chance we might look to move him on.

He did a couple of great things in that first half - that cross with his right foot for Moore was brilliant (imagine the pelters Werner would have got for missing that)....

It was a good cross and should have led to a goal. Moore however is 17 so it’s understandable for him to miss chances like that, and to be fair it was much harder than Werner’s who had much more time with his chance. The second was much harder and wasn’t a great pass by Richarlison.

Better FIT for the system. That role fits him better than it fits Son. That doesn't mean we'll be better off with him starting.

Because he does what Ange wants in terms of staying wide, stretching the pitch and also playing on the line of their defence and looking to get in behind from balls over the top or between the opponents centre back and full back.

Totally unfair, justice for the one!

That’s exactly why he is on loan
He can’t do all the things we need and is here as a squad player to help with the numbers

And then gets in the positions to do what?? Nothing ever comes of it

credit to ange's subs - two lightning quick wingers against a tired defence
I didn't wanna say before the game "I like this line up, it means we can bring on Werner and Johnson against a tired defence, and Walker has had hamstring issues in recent weeks, so blah blah blah" but yeah, I really like the idea of playing Werner/Johnson/Son against tired defences, when they can use their pace.
