Re: Tim Sherwood - Head Coach

So does anybody see any signs from Sherwood's management of the team that we wont get humiliated at Old Trafford and the Emirates in the new year?

Nope. I am seriously fearing the worst, particularly at the Emirates. It's going to be bad

Football is weird, there may be some quirk in the system we play that means we play really well against big teams. When Southampton were getting to grips with Potchettino last year they struggled in more winnable games but played better against the bigger teams. It may go that way for us.

I would be amazed. I don't see any semblance of cohesion within this spurs side right now. I'm not blaming Tim for this (yet), but what the hell do our players do in training. Well I know Holtby is busy on Spurs TV

Re: Tim Sherwood - Head Coach

I just saw a vibrant Southampton team score three goals in the first half hour against a tricky opponent, Cardiff at home. I hope Spurs aren't up against those lads any time soon, they look dynamite, particularly Lallana and Rodriguez

Re: Tim Sherwood - Head Coach

This. It's like we all already know what's going to happen eventually. I almost want us to get hammered once so he can get this stupidity out of his system. (I don't but ffs Tim how many reminders do you need that you need a DM?)

Even going back in time looking at the days of Jenas and co when we were desperate for a DM, Harry signs Palacios and suddenly we look a million times better. Even when Harry tried with Luka and Niko vs City we were absolutely spanked ( ;) Cheers SPURSphenomenon). It's like we all know it, but Tim doesn't.

He's been at the club for so long you'd think he'd remember these occasions. But this is when it hits me that these guys they don't care or remember these details in the same way that we do, the fans, who remember the minute details. It's absolutely crazy.

United won the league last season without what most people would describe as a DM

Re: Tim Sherwood - Head Coach

Carrick all day. In the same way Sergio Busquets is for Barca.

Yes, exactly. But the lack of dynamism in cm areas is what is costing them now. In fact it cost them last year in the CL. If they had a Modric, Alonso type of CM the sending off against Madrid wouldn't necessarily have caused them to collapse like they did.

OMG, realised some are even trying to compare our team to Manure's of last season :ross:

Agreed.

You don't have to be a "destroyer" to be considered a defensive midfielder. Carrick, Busquets, Arteta. All crucial to their teams. Help keep things ticking over, underrated part of the starting line up. An important cog in the side.

What like AVB's team did at the Etihad and at home to Liverscum? Get a grip. We may have a full squad available and a more settled team. Who knows? Why give up so soon. Far too defeatist.

Good GHod - hope we don't face them anytime soon. LOL . :ross:

Re: Tim Sherwood - Head Coach

Difficult to know what to make of TS. It feels like he's trying too hard to not be like AVB, which given the turgid football we played most of the season is understandable, but the problem is our first choice eleven are unavailable due to injuries and suspensions which really makes his job difficult. Keeping it simple is great, getting the players to enjoy their game more is great but you have to set up the team properly and im not sure sherwood is doing that right now.

Im not particularly against 442 but with any formation we need balance and we need width.

Losing lennon and townsend is a massive blow, but that still leaves chadli left Lamela right as the wide men we should be playing. Siggy is a good player but wide is not his best position. Stick him in the hole or central just not wide.

Erikson in cm in the modric role is genius ( though he's a long way off being rat boy good defensively). In which case capoue/ sandro needs to play alongside eriksen. Holtby is another option but swapped in for erijsen rather tgan alongside him. When bentalrb came on today we instantly looked better in midfield.

Im not sure what TS has against capoue but i hope he gets over it quickly as we need him in sandros absence. He needs a bit of a confidence boost and he needs to be played in his proper position.

Upfront ade and soldado have to be first choice but ade clearly isnt fully match fit yet and certainly not fir playing two games in a week, so he needs managing not flogging to death.

But what do i know i dont have my coaching badges either!

But you make some very valid points nevertheless.

Re: Tim Sherwood - Head Coach

The question is, given Lennon, Sandro, Verts fit, would he have played all today?

i.e. Lloris, Walker, Dawson, Verts, Rose, Lennon, Sandro, Eriksen, Siggy, Ade, Soldado as the first 11? because that team gives me a lot more confidence.

Re: Tim Sherwood - Head Coach

So can anybody give a reason why Tim, in the absence of Sandro, is not starting Capoue, especially with Eriksen in the middle of a 4-4-2?

He fancied Eriksen and Holtby to start in this game. That is the reason - a passing duo against a weak WBA team. Doesn't mean he won't play a DM against Stoke, Utd or Arsnl - depending of course if one is fit!

When he considered it wasn't working, and when Holtby was getting tired, he brought on Bentalab to shore up the middle. Is that too hard to comprehend.

It isn't what I would have done - see that say I would have prefered Capoue from the start in place of Holtby when the teams were announced. But I can see the reason why he went with what he did.

It's this kind of frankly naïve decision that gives me little hope in TS. Hope to be proved wrong in due course but I'm not holding my breath as it's not the first time

I agree . He is experimenting still and it's easy to understand why if he doesn't know the players

Personally either Sandro or. Capoue has to start as the DM more is vital to regaining possession and the actual tempo of the game. A good DM will keep the ball ticking over so to speak and I personally think we have two top drawer ones. Holtby is a chaser and runner, not a tackle and passer IMO. He is much more Like Paulinho than Sandro.

I can't quite work out where Bentelab fits in but he has been sound when he has come in and he seems to sit somewhere similar to Dembele. That's a worry for me as I can't see how Dembele fits into a 4-4-2 with Eriksen in the middle.... But it's not my problem to solve :)
