Re: Tim Sherwood - Head Coach

If Eriksen is going to play in the middle he needs proper protection like Capoue/Sandro. Without it we will get exposed. Its suicide to think we can get away with this.

An example:Harry in 2011/12 when we played City at home had Krancjar and Modric in CM. Even Modric as great as he was for us was unable to stamp any kind of authority on the game without a holding player.

We have a holding player on the bench in Capoue, why the f would you not play him to utlise a clearly technically gifted footballer? Its concerning that he hasnt recognised this.

Re: Tim Sherwood - Head Coach

But what do i know i dont have my coaching badges either!

Lol, it's funny but most of us fans are spotting things. I think the difference is that we can spot what is wrong but might not know how to change things to rectify the problem

Re: Tim Sherwood - Head Coach

How long are Lennon and Townsend out for?

If TS wants to be like Harry, then he'll need those two players to model the team on our best one of the last few years.

Remember the team that beat Villa a home 2-0 and could've scored about 10? It's when the pundits started to purr and thought maybe we could challenge for the title, that's how well we were playing. That XI was:

--------friedel
walker--kaboul--king--bae
lennon--parker--modric--bale
----------vdv
---------ade

We can't match the big 3 (modric, vdv, bale) in terms of quality, but we can replicate it somewhat. Centre-half we are struggling though, we don't have anybody to play as Kaboul did that season (not only could he dominate in the air, but he had pace too). Kaboul is crocked. Dawson is too slow. Vert can play as King did that season (King had lost his pace by then anyway), but if Vert plays, we need someone with both pace AND heading ability next to him. Alternatively, we play Dawson (heading ability) and someone quick next to him. Fryers is the only player that comes to mind.

Poor man's version of Harry's team:

-----------lloris
walker--dawson--fryers--rose
lennon--sandro--eriksen--townsend
------------lamela
-----------ade

We really need to buy a centre half who has ability and pace. Dawson played his best ever football alongside Seb Bassong, we need to find him a partner, or find a new Kaboul who can partner Vertonghen. Chiriches looks like a Vertonghen understudy, but he also needs the "new Kaboul" as a partner, or it all falls apart at the back.

Re: Tim Sherwood - Head Coach

We don't have a clear 11 do we? If we looked at peoples preferred teams here, there wouldn't be much consensus. I think that is a massive problem. AVB suffered from it. Sherwood needs to figure out quickly who fits in best in which position - then get them to nail that role. At the moment there's little consistency.

Difficult time to take over with injuries and fixtures every 3 days.

Very true.

Re: Tim Sherwood - Head Coach

I'm just watching some midgets on Match of the Day... I think it is some guys called Nasri, Navas and Silva versus Suarez, Coutinho and Sterling? These midgets are tiny, there is no way these teams will get anywhere, what if they come up against some big lads?

Re: Tim Sherwood - Head Coach

Looks like he is only on chapter 2 of 'A dummies guide to football management;

Harsh, but having seen both of TS's games at the Lane, and all I can say is that I won't be rushing to see Spurs again any time soon.
You don't change manager mid way through a season so you can give the new manager time: you do it for pretty instant results. It would be nice to think that with time the players will play better under TS, but optimism only gets you so far...tonight I'm just disillusioned with all things Tottenham.

Behind these midgets they have Toure, Fernandinho, Lucas Leiva..

Weird isn't it? We lined up our big units in midfield in the 3rd game of the season, away at Arsenal. And one of the big lads (Capoue) ends up getting stretched off after a challenge by that power-house, Santi Cazorla.

Re: Tim Sherwood - Head Coach

Defensively minded, provides the platform for the others to perform, that was the point I was making.

Oh, I see.

I was just saying that midgets can be quite good at football, so we shouldn't worry too much about having midgets in the team.

I'm just watching Walcott and Ozil and Poldi tear Wet Spam apart... they are midgets too.

People on here say that Sigg needs to hit the gym, and Defoe is too small, and Bentaleb needs to do some weights, but I'm not sure we need to worry about it, other good teams seem to manage OK.

Carzorla is a fat bastard though, and he did sit on him.

Ah! Sorry im on this DM war path today. Cannot believe how stupid it is to not play with one *TAKE NOTE TIM YOU IDIOT!*

I agree..these so called lightweights can perform as long as they have the protection to express themselves.

Re: Tim Sherwood - Head Coach

If todays game is anything to go by, we are in for a stinker of a season. Maybe TS is using something simple for the players to play in whilst he and the coaches train and implement something else, but if this is a sign of what's to come then I hold little hope. I think the midfield lineup told the story, three days ago we could pick out where everyone was playing but today seeing a central pairing of Holtby and Eriksen left me scratching my head :) I hate not loving my football right now, I just want to see us pass it around and create. We have gone from passing it around to living off breakdowns. Everything is so scrappy now

Yep, it's gone from too slow and patient to too frenetic and scrappy. There is a happy medium there, if we just pick a balanced team. Do you think Harry can give Sherwood a quick call and tell him?

This. It's like we all already know what's going to happen eventually. I almost want us to get hammered once so he can get this stupidity out of his system. (I don't but ffs Tim how many reminders do you need that you need a DM?)

Even going back in time looking at the days of Jenas and co when we were desperate for a DM, Harry signs Palacios and suddenly we look a million times better. Even when Harry tried with Luka and Niko vs City we were absolutely spanked ( ;) Cheers SPURSphenomenon). It's like we all know it, but Tim doesn't.

He's been at the club for so long you'd think he'd remember these occasions. But this is when it hits me that these guys they don't care or remember these details in the same way that we do, the fans, who remember the minute details. It's absolutely crazy.

Re: Tim Sherwood - Head Coach

So does anybody see any signs from Sherwood's management of the team that we wont get humiliated at Old Trafford and the Emirates in the new year?
