Re: Tim Sherwood -Your Manager! 18 month contract confirmed!

Harry was on talksport earlier, said that Tim was involved with the first team squad when he was there and came to all the away games including CL etc so must have picked up something there you'd hope.

Someone said that he has all the youth teams playing a similar formation and tactics - what are they?

4-2-3-1 and 4-3-3

Re: Tim Sherwood -Your Manager! 18 month contract confirmed!

so why wasn't tim installed when redknapp was going ?

AVB did a PowerPoint presentation that impressed Levy. The one the infamous "he's either a genius or a fraud" line was spoken about. AVB having agreed to work with young players with potential then demanded Hulk Moutinho and Anderson in his first transfer meeting.

I seem to recall reading something at the time that said he wanted the job when Redknapp went. As he was not put in charge of the youth set up until then, I assume that his inexperience counted against him. It was also probably too much of a risk for Levy at the time.

I seem to remember them talking about it on the Guardian podcast. They said that AVB was not a leading candidate for the job but his presentation to the board blew them away.

Re: Tim Sherwood -Your Manager! 18 month contract confirmed!

my fear is that sherwood would return to the players who he knows best - the U21s, and if he isn't astute will cause the senior foreign players to move away given the world cup and more.

Re: Tim Sherwood -Your Manager! 18 month contract confirmed!

And yet we missed at least 3 great chances to score after going 3-2 up, so swings and roundabouts.

True, we certainly did.

My real point was that we could have easily been undone and there would be zero optimism now. I think there a lot of work to do and it's not as simple as going 442.

Of course having Sandro available would help but we were very open. Against a better team, or even that team on a different day would could have come away with nothing.

We're not going to score 3 every game.

Re: Tim Sherwood -Your Manager! 18 month contract confirmed!

Its ironic, the same people that were telling those AVB 'haters' to give it time, are the ones who are moaning about Timmy boy without giving him a chance let alone time. Utterly pathetic as far as im concerned and realy have shown themselves up. All for petty pathetic reasons such as (and im paraphrasing here) 'I dont like how he looks' - ****ing hell.

I hope he gets us top four and ill back him from the start.

Its also funny, there is a lot of work to do but why is that? If AVB was doing such a good job, why is there a lot to do? I dont get it. I agree mate, there is a fair bit to do, but it begs the question as to why?

Defensively we are a touch chaotic at times and do panic and that is, as far as im concerned, due to the previous management

It had the opposite effect when he applied for the Burnley job. They found it way too complicated and way over their heads.

Re: Tim Sherwood -Your Manager! 18 month contract confirmed!

Haha, that's great.

If I recall correctly, this was something to do with one of our FB's being down or injured and they wanted one of the midfielders - Siggy maybe - to double up on that side temporarily.

You're right.
Watching some of the media and the media commenters is instructive too.
One cabal desperately wants Sherwood to succeed and is already making comments that fly in the face of arguments/misgivings that they had about Villas-Boas.
Others, in their opposition to that camp, are arguing aginst Sherwood with too much recklessness, too swift a rush to judgement as they label/stereotype him with little to no evidence.

It's even accepted when one says he'd rather we lose when Sherwood is in charge. Can you imagine the reaction if an 'anti' AVB poster said this when he first arrived?

GB literally got nobody (but me) questioning his ridiculous posts about wanting Southampton and WBA to win. Would this be the case if i stated in an OMT how much i wanted us to lose when AVB was in charge? would it ****.

In fairness, that is because we've all come to expect it of GB now. I like him, think sometimes the abuse he gets is ridiculous (and he always stays above the personal attacks he receives) but he has a tendancy to do this kind of thing and I think most people just leave it now.

But don't you realise he cannot succeed, he is just an old boy with no tactical skill, he has sweet talked and manipulated Levy to rise from mere part-time member of the backroom staff to manager!?

I really don't know why these people bother! Sado-masochism perhaps? Attention-whoring? Regardless I think a few of us more rational and less biased posters could do with following the old advice:

Re: Tim Sherwood -Your Manager! 18 month contract confirmed!

We just need a big home win on boxing day: get The Lane rocking, goals galore...it could kick-start our season.

Maybe if we get him some elocution lessons, he'll be accepted by the snobs.
People saying he's thick because of the way he speaks, says more about them, than him.

I said I wanted AVB to have time, and am not impressed with this Sherwood appointment. But I'd get behind the guy while he's in charge because ultimately like all of us I want what's best for spurs.

But Sherwood IMO (and that's nothing compared to football people and the board), it's a huge huge risk. AVB was widely accepted as a bright upcoming manager in the game with bright ideas. Most importantly he had won silverware and even a European trophy. He had a tough few months at Chelsea which should have made him an even stronger candidate (I believe you learn far more from failing).

Tim Sherwood has diddly squat experience besides knowing Bentelab better than Capoue.

Whatever happens now, if Sherwood doesn't like some of these new players and they are flogged, it makes a mockery of a Levy and his long term vision and is another massive black mark next to his name.
