Re: Tim Sherwood -Your Manager! 18 month contract confirmed!

Absolutely right.

Also - yes - we scored 3 goals but there a big slice of luck with two of them; the deflected pass in the build up to the own goal and the pass to Ade for the 3rd bobbled out of a tackle.

Could easily have not fallen our way in those two instances.

And yet we missed at least 3 great chances to score after going 3-2 up, so swings and roundabouts.

Re: Tim Sherwood -Your Manager! 18 month contract confirmed!

I don't think Levy cares all that much what they say. He strikes me far more as the type to care about what they do.

For all we know Levy made that point and AVB/NBD both told him 3rd was not going to happen under any circumstance.

:~

and then offered them a job after?

Is levy like a Jekyll and Hyde type dude or something? doesnt sound like him

What if 3rd is unrealistic? I think it is now (once Utd are back on track) barring some Russian oligarch needing to launder his money. If people Levy trusts say that 3rd can't be done then I expect him to believe them.

Re: Tim Sherwood -Your Manager! 18 month contract confirmed!

sorry mate, not a trick question and not made to make anyone, least of you all you look silly, hope you didnt take offence

i'm actually trying to goad scara into a response :)

basically there is this mini debate i had with him to determine if Harry achieved his target in his last season...and if the basis of his tactical decision in the Villa game that was the penultimate game of our season warranted such scrutiny if infact he was trying to achieve the clubs target. make top 4

no worries

tricky one the Harry question - on one hand, his job was to achieve CL qualification, which he didn't. one the other, in almost any other season, he would have. but football is a hard business and you either win or lose.

"top 4" is synonymous with CL qualification, and Harry was unlucky. BUT - if it had have been the likes of Fergie, he would have nailed on that 3rd place.

so if they make 4th but NOT champions league then it would be a success then?

what if harry and levy at some point agreed that 3rd wasnt realistic?

They're may have done, I just noticed a clear distinction between one saying 4th and the other CL. Levy has calmed down on all the immediate ambition speak lately.

Re: Tim Sherwood -Your Manager! 18 month contract confirmed!

Probably had something to do with us losing 3-0 at home to an abysmal West Ham side, 5-0 at home to a Liverpool side of equal quality and being unable to muster a single shot on target for the first time at home since the PL began, losing 6-0 away to City, our biggest loss in 18 years. Scoring less than a goal per game, playing shockingly boring football, ostracising our best striker, was incredibly reluctant to give any of the youth a chance even in a dead rubber ropey league game and for some reason was ignoring a player we've just invested a club record £26m on.
To play the devil's advocate: you left out the part about Spur's highest ever points hall and the time needed to bed in so many new additions. But, even putting that aside, and given all of the criticisms that you have listed, your side are only a few points out of the top 4. And there was no immediate replacement ready. It's odd. What was the rush?

Kyle Walker ‏@kylewalker2
We've known Tim for years, looking forward to having a good second half of the season with him.

So he does know the players

Re: Tim Sherwood -Your Manager! 18 month contract confirmed!

This is very surreal. It's like a mate managing your football club!

Knowing Ryan Mason and his family I also know TS and spoke only a few weeks ago about Mason. Sherwood rates him very highly and, although doubtful, we'll see if he's brought back or re-introduced next season. Right now we all know he wouldn't get in the team.

So yes it's very strange for me personally knowing TS. When I say 'Knowing' I don't see him regularly but I know him to say hello to in the street type of thing.

As you know already he is very much into bringing the youth through so that wasn't news to me when I read that.

I'm not overly confident nor worried. He loves the club, knows his history and isn't afraid to promote attractive football.

It's gonna be interesting.

Do you know what players he genuinely rates? who he doesn't rate?

Re: Tim Sherwood -Your Manager! 18 month contract confirmed!

Harry was on talksport earlier, said that Tim was involved with the first team squad when he was there and came to all the away games including CL etc so must have picked up something there you'd hope.

Someone said that he has all the youth teams playing a similar formation and tactics - what are they?

so why wasn't tim installed when redknapp was going ?

Maybe we wanted a break from that type of approach?

That's on the assumption that Tim is a motivator like Harry rather than a tactician or both. I think Levy loves the dream of a highly disciplined system backed up by lots of sports science data and a continental approach but lacks the conviction to really implement it so has gone back to the old style. By fully implement it I don't mean just the coach, I mean the medical facilities, use of data, diet plans etc.

Re: Tim Sherwood -Your Manager! 18 month contract confirmed!

At risk of repeating what others might have said I think it is just about the right decision....

The team against Southampton was a gamble by Sherwood. If he had played an AVB style team and tactics and we had lost and/or produced a dull/poor performance I don't think he would have got the job. He needed to produce something different in that one game and he might not be so brave now he's got the contract....having ADE to bring back in was a huge bonus for him.

18 months is not bad as it gives him the rest of the season to assess the squad from a manager's perspective and then a summer transfer window. It also let's the players know they are playing for next season and given his lack of management experience it is does not tie the club into a long expensive contract with the risk that that could bring.

Not a perfect situation but I am fairly optimistic about the future and not least as Ade has scored as many league goals in one game as Defoe and Soldado have scored in the whole of 2013 - penalties aside - so let's hope we can now see Soldado's true worth.

COYS.

Re: Tim Sherwood -Your Manager! 18 month contract confirmed!

Crikey, 64 pages. I'm not going to read all that; I'd end up not being able to see the wood for the trees. It would be a veritable Sherwood forest.

Sorry. Is there a groan emoticon?

To my mind, the best thing he has said so far is something along the lines of "the last thing we need to do is bring in another load of players in January".

A left back would be nice, mind, to provide back-up to Broadway Danny Rose. If Sherwood is a stickler about people arriving on time for training I don't see anyway back for Crabman.

Or they're brown nosing the new boss

Could be that too but did you see Danny Rose's comments? seemed like it was very genuine.

Danny Rose backs tough guy Tim Sherwood to take the Tottenham hotseat

Clamping down: Danny Rose has hailed Tim Sherwood's no-nonsense stance

Tottenham left back Danny Rose today revealed that an angry
Tim Sherwood has got tough with the underachieving squad and introduced a new set of rules to turn the club’s season around.

Sherwood, who wants to be given the manager’s job on a permanent basis after being put in charge following the dismissal of Andre Villas-Boas last week, won his first League game 3-2 against Southampton yesterday.

Chairman Daniel Levy is still considering turning to someone else though and is targeting Holland coach Louis van Gaal, while he is expected to interview former boss Glenn Hoddle.

But Rose believes Sherwood has already proved he should be given the position full-time after clamping down on ill-discipline within the ranks, which casts more doubts about the Villas-Boas regime.

When asked whether Sherwood’s chances of getting the post could be harmed because he is not a big name, Rose said: “People may think that, but you know that Tim won’t take nonsense from anybody.

“At his first training session a couple of us rolled out for it late, he got us all in a circle and told us it was unacceptable in polite words. He set out some new rules and you know not to mess with Tim and that’s good.

“The rules were regarding lateness, punctuality and when we go down to eat, stuff like that. We have meetings and stuff on the training pitch as well, you know that when he speaks you’ve got to listen. It’s great.

“Supposedly he’s said he’s not sure if he will get the job. Me personally, I’d be over the moon if Tim is there. Tim’s backed me for a good three or four years now and I know that if I’m fully fit, I’m going to play and when I’m doing things wrong, he’s going to pull me aside and tell me it’s unacceptable.

“I know if I want to work on things he’s take me out on the training pitch and work with me, just like the others.”

And in what looked like another dig at former coach Villas-Boas, Rose believes Sherwood has already got the team playing with an exciting style again having played with two strikers in his first couple of matches.

Spurs have struggled to score goals for the most part of the campaign and the club's fans were getting frustrated with the quality of football on offer.

Rose added: “Recently we’ve not played the Tottenham way, attacking and counter attacking. I suppose it’s been harder having just one striker up front.

“That’s (the way they beat Southampton) is how Tottenham should be playing – like we did in the second half. We tried to play attacking football. At times we know we may concede, but we want to be scoring a few goals every game.”

Van Gaal has hinted he is interested in a move to White Hart Lane, but won’t consider the post until after he steps down as Holland coach following the World Cup next summer.

He said: “I've always said that I want to work in the Premier League, so there's a chance.

"But I've also read that Frank de Boer and Guus Hiddink were in the picture. Everyone who knows me knows I won't do two jobs at the same time."

Re: Tim Sherwood -Your Manager! 18 month contract confirmed!

this is very possible i agree, and even probably the real situation

but with AVB it was taken on face value as the gospel truth, unless we have double standards going on i would hope it is taken on face value with Sherwood as well

i keep telling people not to believe sound bites and the media, but i guess we all chose to believe what suits us
