Re: Tim Sherwood -Your Manager! 18 month contract confirmed!

I'm confident we will win our next two yes, both at home, one against a managerless unorganised West Brom, the other against a crap Stoke team but once the away games roll around we will lose as many as we win I'm telling you. Can't be as open as we were yesterday because teams will punish us.

Hopefully it was just Tim taking advantage of Southampton's rocky defence, but I don't hold out much hope of his tactical nous. I really hope he does well but I'd happily settle for 6th now. The last thing we want is to finish 9th or 10th, lose a couple of key players and be of less attraction to players and managers in the summer.

Re: Tim Sherwood -Your Manager! 18 month contract confirmed!

we buy 100 mil worth of players and then hand them to the youth academy coach with no prior first team experience to manage? its an extremely RISKY move.

its just too big too sudden a job for Tim. If he succeeds I don't think he'll be any different to Redknapp.

Seeing how Tim is going totally opposite to what AVB offers and how he manages his players, I suspect that Tim had a hand/role in AVB's departure. (See Stobart's tweets). I also suspect that Tim is going to favour the English over the foreigners. Yep Redknapp Mark II.

If it sees us playing attractive football and CL qualification I won't be complaining.

Yeah lets blame Tim for the 6:0, 5:0 and the 3:0 defeats. And I bet it was Tim who told AVB not to pick Ade when we were struggling to score goals

Re: Tim Sherwood -Your Manager! 18 month contract confirmed!

He's walking on very thin ice, in my view. If he gets rid of Holtby, that ice will collapse.

Holtby not able to pass? What a joker.

Re: Tim Sherwood -Your Manager! 18 month contract confirmed!

I want Sherwood gone. I'll always support Spurs but I'll never back Sherwood. He's not good enough, plays with naivety and hasn't achieved anything in management to justify the role that we have bestowed upon him.

He played Holtby against West Ham. People are reading way too much into this.

Neither have any of Levy's managers.

But they have shown signs elsewhere that they can manage. Sherwood is taking up his first managerial role, all his learning at this level will be with us. He is far more likely to make mistakes in the learning process which will then cost us. His mistakes could well cost him his job and us valuable time as the club takes a step backwards.

I would love him to prove me wrong as that would mean that we were successful but I can't see it happening.

I'm not sure how you can establish this opinion after 2 games?

Also, surely as a Spurs fan u back the club no matter who the manager is

Erm, please re-read my post. I said that I'll always support Spurs. Or is that not backing the club?

Re: Tim Sherwood -Your Manager! 18 month contract confirmed!

As for why not, I've said some reasons. Other reasons include that players will respect him less than an established name, our profile is affected by appointing a manager that is not well known. There are far better candidates about than Sherwood. I think he was given the post as we needed someone interim, but Sherwood wanted full time or nothing apparently, so we were backed in to a corner.

Re: Tim Sherwood -Your Manager! 18 month contract confirmed!

Staggering. When the news came up on the ticker I nearly choked.

We're Tottenham Hotspur, sure, not a mega club but certainly the 5th or 6th biggest club in the country. There is absolutely no way on planet earth we should be appointing an absolute rookie at such a pivotal time. It is a joke of a decision made by a joke of a man (Levy), who has been manipulated by Sherwood so blatantly I can't help but be amazed, given how shrewd Levy is meant to be.

Our fans, including myself have dished out thousands of pounds on tickets and season tickets this season yet for over half of it will be watching a side managed by someone with zero experience of managing a first team. Yeah AVB's side was boring as hell but at least there was that glimmer of hope there with him knowing that he had at least completed his ****ing badges!

Our players, many of whom are foreign and cost £10m+, how are they going to react to this? They have no reason to respect Sherwood cos he's achieved **** all. I mean, this guy although he has clearly coached the youths well is the same man who fielded an ineligible player in a NextGen tournament FFS! He just isn't likely to inspire these international footballers is he? (don't tell me he's motivated Adebayor, Adebayor has motived himself cos it's almost time for the transfer window to open).

Yes the football will be attacking but that doesn't mean it'll be fun to watch. Yesterday we were mostly **** against an understrength Southampton side, we barely strung three passes together but won due to a bit of luck and an on form striker doing his job for once. In Sherwood's other game we just got the ball out wide and pinged it in against West Ham hoping for the best before knackering ourselves out and losing to our rivals again.

Liverpool, Arsenal, Emirates Marketing Project, Chelsea, Everton and Man Utd fans will be ****ing loving this. Once again we are a laughing stock. They now have the top six positions wrapped up. There is no way on earth Sherwood will steer us to the top four so don't even mention it. He will just put as many attacking players on the pitch as possible and hope for the best.

The ONLY positive thing I can imagine comes out of this is we'll finally see our youngsters given a chance. But at the expense of loads of players on top dollar after we spent vast amounts on them this summer or the one before or the one before that.

I'll still go to the games and support the team and Sherwood because for me the man to blame is Levy, who has lost the plot.

The journey back to midtable mediocrity begins here boys, hold on tight...

How do you know anything about Sherwood's managerial abilities?

It is not beyond the realms of possibility that there were no managers available that were demonstrably more able a coach than Sherwood. Experience counts for very little if you haven't learnt from it.

Although I suppose there are no similar examples where such a move has been a success... right?

Apart from Pep Guardiola bloke and his replacement Tito Vilanova. The much-vaunted Frank De Boer who many wanted to replace AVB? No managerial experience before Ajax. Hyypia has been a great success with no experience at Leverkusen, qualifying for the CL group stage by coming 3rd. Laurent Blanc had no experience before guiding Bordeaux to 2nd and then the title, ending Lyon's dominance. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is admittedly working at a lower level, but he still turned around an underperforming Molde team. Roberto Mancini didn't have his badges when he took charge of Fiorentina - he won the Coppa Italia with them and Lazio before a successful spell at Inter and obviously City. Leonardo didn't have his badges when he took over at Milan, he still came third with them and won the Coppa Italia with Inter the following season. Vincenzo Montella did a decent job in his half-season at Roma with no experience, he then moved to Catania before doing an exemplary job at Fiorentina.

While it is by no means a guaranteed recipe for success, if the coach is able enough there are plenty of examples of a lack of experience at the top level not mattering too much. Just because it hasn't happened in England recently does not mean it doesn't happen at all. Admittedly the media are something else in this country but for christ's sake cheer the fook up!

In your ill-informed, amateur opinion (no better than any of us, but almost certainly worse than Levy's). Out of interest, who would you have picked?

Re: Tim Sherwood -Your Manager! 18 month contract confirmed!

I don't think the players would care as much about big name status of the manager than the fans seem to. At the end of the day if the boss is a prick, the players won't like him.

Thudd seemed to like Timmy and he's done wonders with Ade so far. That's two ticks already.

Re: Tim Sherwood -Your Manager! 18 month contract confirmed!

Why is my opinion necessarily I'll-informed? I'll assume that you mean my opinion, as there's no reason for me not to have a solid grasp on footballing matters, albeit one that doesn't come from a professional footballing background.

As for my choice. I'm anticipating your reaction to my suggestion. I'm going to say De Boer. To which, you'll possibly argue that he had zero experience before taking over at Ajax, and try to compare De Boer with Sherwood on that matter. To which, I'll say that De Boer has gained experience, both in the Dutch league, and in the Champions League over the past few seasons. De Boer has a reputation in World football. He has vast International playing experience and very well known across the globe. De Boer plays with an attacking style and turned the side around from its past dip in form. He has worked with both Eriksen & Vertonghen before, two of our key players and so likely knows the secret to getting the best out of them, he also has knowledge of working within a footballing set up which includes academy.

Re: Tim Sherwood -Your Manager! 18 month contract confirmed!

As a rival fan, Sherwood's appointment is welcome news. Can't believe you got rid of AVB to replace him with this. Very strange. Doesn't seem to have been a well thought out move.
