I think we bought the Silver Beatles.

Great potential but nowhere near the finished articles.

Re: Tim Sherwood - Head Coach

Completely false,

Kane made 6 appearances before being injured earlier this season and even made a cameo against Saudi Sportswashing Machine at the start of last season before going on loan to Norwich and Leicester.

Bentaleb was an unused sub for one game under AVB, so it's not like he didn't know he existed, but it's only natural that the other senior players was given a chance to bed in first.

Sure, he had six appearances under AVB, not one of them starts. One PL game against the might of Cardiff City, coming on at the 81st min. The rest were either Cadbury Cup or Europa League games. He never started, usually coming on with under 20 mins. to play. The only time he got more than that was when he came on at half time at WHL to help us nurse a 7-0 aggregate lead in the Aleksandr Chivadze testimonial.

He was making appearances but you'd hardly call that quality time. His reward for scoring a biggie against Hull was a late sub role against Sherrif and then nothing until Sherwood took over. Under AVB, he was displaying 'immense expendibility' and was never gonna crack the big time with all the pricier players getting priority.

The only start Bentaleb would have earned under AVB was with the grounds crew.

Now, Spurs have two young, promising players who have displayed their viability as core squad players going forward. No one can be shocked if either makes the starting 11 this season or next. Sherwood's given them that chance and has opened up a number of options for Levy to sell and spend that weren't there when AVB was in charge. Plus the emergence of these two has to have lit a fire within the younger ranks at Spurs. All sorts of kids are now playing with a greater sense of ambition and awareness that upward progress is possible. That was far less likely under AVB.

Sherwood's not perfect by any means. Under the circumstances with which he's had to operate under in his managerial debut, I think he's done as well as anyone could have hoped while restoring the all important elements of more entertaining football and cheeky, cheerful C0ckney culture. I'd have him back to fulfill his contract.

Also wrong, he started the league cup match against Aston Villa.

Are you seriously claiming AVB was wrong to prefer giving our multi million pound new arrivals a chance to show what they can do over youth players? I'd have liked to have seen the bashings coming his way if he had started Kane over Soldado and Bentaleb over any of our other CMs for the first games of the season.

Oh no, AVB was locked in. But you could make the case that Sherwood could easily have stuck with the same group. He made a bold decision to start Bentaleb and it sent out shock waves. Now Kane is making a strong case that, assuming management feel Soldado is worth persisting with, that our striker situation is not as dire as first feared when Defoe left, a decision I agreed with. Always better to move a player one year too soon than try to one year too late.

Sherwood's chosen not to play it safe when a multitude of excuses were already there that would have let him easily done so and let Spurs coast to a comfortable eight place finish, which would have pleased many anti-Europa League bashers. Instead, he's not letting anyone rest on their laurels and I admire him for that.

And as we know that Daniel Levy closely reads and reacts to this influential, opinion-shaping forum, he'll be aware that at least one Spurs fan would be content to see Sherwood come back next season.

Re: Tim Sherwood - Head Coach

Is he still gobbing off? Not doing his future career many favours, you know. I doubt Ashley or Delia will be very impressed by their apparent candidate for the job denigrating and almost actively demoralising and abusing his players in the press daily.

There was a time when his honesty was refreshing. Now when his back's against the wall, his 'honesty' has morphed into 'anyone but me'. End the season and fire the prick.

I think you're overstating the importance of those players regarding the first team. Whilst one or both may become permanent fixtures over the longer term, I'd be disappointed if we start next season with Bentaleb as our midfield passer or Kane as our 2nd choice striker.

I still contest that sticking with what he knows is far safer than taking on a new team. Had he been an external appointment then that would have been the brave option, as Loans to Swindon Manager then it was the safe one.

And as we know that Daniel Levy closely reads and reacts to this influential, opinion-shaping forum, he'll be aware that at least one Spurs fan would be content to see Sherwood come back next season.

I think that makes a grand total of two of you.

Re: Tim Sherwood - Head Coach

Well it looks like the scum is making Sandro look elsewhere - his representatives apparently now talking to Napoli: http://hereisthecity.com/en-gb/2014...ace-about-tottenham-stars-possible-departure/

It's a load of old ********, isn't it? All the players know that Sherwood will not be in charge next season, so whatever happens over the next few weeks is very unlikely to have any bearing on whether they are here next season or not. Most likely the Italian press are just seeing a decent player have a spat with their coach and have made up a story accordingly.

The Dubai has spoken! :)

Re: Tim Sherwood - Head Coach

But neither of those have been to Swindon in the past......

True, but that inconveniently gets in the way of an unfunny 'joke' that is being unsubtly hammered at every opportunity in an attempt to belittle and denigrate some of his actual skill and history.

Nah, that was a line from the commentator on MotD

Re: Tim Sherwood - Head Coach

He is trying to prove a point.. bring in kids.

I myself wouldn't pretend to know what he's trying to prove. But if indeed he were trying to prove himself and at the same time develop some kids, that would be fine by me. Tough concept to grasp, I know.
