Re: Sherwood Out!

"I think they are fit enough but to play a certain way … When it's a complete change of mindset of how I asked them to play – I asked them to go a bit more gung-ho, and up and at them. You need to acclimatise to that."

Oh no...

So in summary what he's saying is that he ****ed us with his tactics last night. Out of the frying pan...
What happened to "one of the most forward thinking and knowledgeable people in the game" as per the Swindon Town chairman. I didn't see much of that last night.

Onwards to Sunday...

Re: Sherwood Out!

Spurs didnt have time for AVB. (stupid i think)

So I realy think if Spurs want to change things around we need to sack more ppl at the club. Tim and Les first.

we cant change the way spurs are playing at the moment by just sacking the manager.

Re: Sherwood Out!

No but if a manager most wanted had 2 days to work with the team and had the same result he would be defended and given time.

Sherwood isn't our manager at this point. He's a caretaker manager.

If he's made our permanent manager it makes sense to give him time. As long as he's just one of the candidates for the job arguing that he shouldn't be given the job permanently is not the same as having a go at someone that has been given the job permanently after one game. It's the same as arguing that we shouldn't make <insert potential manager name here> our manager.

Re: Sherwood Out!

I am only speculating here but Freund must have know the mental and physical attributes of the 1st team squad. The decision to NOT put Freund in temporary charge now appears more baffling then ever. Sherwood admits he was nowhere near the 1st team squad...maybe his buddy Ferdinand was.

It now appears that this club is being run like a circus...everyone with their own agenda...no teamwork OR communications within higher management.

I thought I'd seen the last of this during the Sugar reign...

Shameful really..

I find this weird as well. Wondering what Freund's involvement in the future will be..

Shows up the decision to sack AVB as fricking ludicrous.

I think once the players get more used to the mindset of going gung ho from the start then we will win games and it will work to an extent, but to change mid-season from a manager who taught the players to play with control and based his fitness preparations and tactics around that, to sacking him when the players saw no need to do so, for a man that is determined to show he is different to AVB, it's a recipe for losing games. It will be a few weeks before we can alter the fitness of the squad so they can carry out the new tempo, which is happily slap bang in the middle of the Christmas period where we can't do much but recover because games are coming thick and fast. Brilliant.

We've effectively written off this season, absolutely macaronic decision to not back AVB as far as I'm concerned, we should have given him the support. A season with so much promise that still could have ended up with a cup once the players settled is now effectively a scrap for 7th place. Next season we may have a huge squad with no European football whatsoever to help us rotate and keep them all happy.

Re: Sherwood Out!

Hopefully being isolated from this farce, so he can work with FDB etc. and start untarnished.

Let's hope he is retained after this present fiasco. In all honesty I would not be surprised to see him leave the club when the new regime is announced. I hope I am proven wrong.

Re: Sherwood Out!

Sherwood played this match as if there was no repercussions to losing it. We were within touching distance of a semifinal and for that reason alone I was absolutely disgusted with the result. The first half was all blood and thunder and quite reminiscent of a time when Harry was here. It was refreshingly different to what has gone on of late and I'm sure this was absolutely intentional by Sherwood to get as far away from the tactical laboured approach that AVB employed. But his naivety was exposed by a rather simple long ball tactic. It was rather predicable that fat Sam would roll out the mortars and he should have been ready to counteract this. Keeping Defoe on was another mistake, especially considering the poor night he was having.
I won't write him off just yet but the signs are a bit ominous already.

I can absolutely guarantee that there must be a good handful of players looking at what has recently transpired and thinking "what the hell am I doing here?". If I was Lamella or Erik OR Soldado I would be looking to manufacture a move away from this mess. Then we get onto Sandro..whose support of AVB was admirable. Then we move onto Paulinho..what must he be thinking ? GHod knows what Verts is thinking..

Sherwood did NOT pick Erik OR Soldado ysterday because he knows those players are NOT (yet) suited to the 100 MPH *all guns blazing* approach.

When Sherwood states that the players are pro's and they can handle the situation..his only point of reference is from his days as a player when 90% of his team mates were of a British Ilk.

tickle my balls with a feather. I still can't fathom why they chose this time to sack AVB. Does anyone think we would have lost last night if he was here? I don't. With Rose back, the inverted wingers tactics would have made more sense.

I can see the morale of the squad dropping greatly now. A lot of the squad really liked the guy, bar Ade, who lets face it only turned up in 1 game against Chelsea in the last 18 months. A dark season is ahead of us

Tottenham's Tim Sherwood: 'I have got to be in the frame' for top job

Tottenham's caretaker boss Tim Sherwood believes he has "got to be in the frame" for the vacant managerial position at White Hart Lane.

Sherwood, who was put in charge after Andre Villas-Boas's sacking on Monday, watched Spurs lose 2-1 to West Ham in Wednesday's League Cup quarter-final.

"I've got to be in the frame, but it's not my decision, unfortunately," said the 44-year-old ex-Tottenham player.

"I'm up for a challenge. I always have been. I'm very opinionated."

Former England midfielder Sherwood played for the north London side between 1999 and 2003.

He joined the club's coaching staff in 2008 under then-manager Harry Redknapp and was working as technical co-ordinator when chairman Daniel Levy asked him to look after the first team following Villas-Boas's departure.

Sherwood has no previous managerial experience, but an approach by Blackburn in October 2012 for him to become the Championship club's manager was rejected by Spurs.

"I know a certain way I need to play," he said. "I think I can manage men and deal with them and be honest with them.

"I think the chairman and the football club need to make the correct decision and find the manager who's best compatible to take this football club forward."

Former England and Tottenham boss Glenn Hoddle has declared an interest in the vacant manager's position, while Swansea have played down concerns that Michael Laudrup could leave for Spurs.

Russia boss Fabio Capello and Basel coach Murat Yakin have also been linked with White Hart Lane.

Villas-Boas left Tottenham in seventh position in the Premier League following a 5-0 home defeat by Liverpool on Sunday.

Despite selling Gareth Bale to Real Madrid for a world-record £85.3m in the summer, the club spent nearly £105m.

They have won only two of their last seven league games, though, and have only scored 15 goals in total, the fewest of the top 11 sides.

"I am trying to get the best out of them - it is difficult to get the message across of how I want to play in a few days," said Sherwood.

"On Monday I was going to take the development team training at 10:20, I then had to change my plans to take the first team."

Tottenham took the lead against West Ham through Emmanuel Adebayor but goals from Matt Jarvis and Modibo Maiga sent the Hammers through to the semi-finals, where they will play Emirates Marketing Project.

Sherwood said: "We started the game really well. We created chances in the first 20 minutes, but couldn't make the breakthrough. Later we gave it away and encouraged West Ham - they got the breaks in the end.

"Give them credit - they bombarded us and stuck to their task."

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Last night it felt as if Harry was in charge again, playing 4-4-2 with wingers up and down the flanks.

I'm personally not so sure about Sherwood but he may have to be interim manager at least as does not look as if we'll be able to get our main target.

There is no longer an option for another interim *caretaker* after Sherwood was placed in charge of first team matters. He is here to stay UNTIL we get our main target in place. I am hoping we can wrap up the new fella rapidly otherwise the damage to the current squad in terms of confidence and moral may prove terminal.

Same. I'd be surprised if Levy did another Pleat-like season as that was done because the squad was useless and needed to be completely rebuilt and it was about finding not just the right man for the job but also the right system for the club.

I think the summer after Pleat was gone we sold something ridiculous like 15 players and made a loss on everyone of them. Also, Levy said at the time we needed to have a set up that meant the club wouldn't rely upon on one man, whereby the club would be able to improve or be very successful regardless as to who was manager.

I posted something about this in the Freund thread.

We know that the coaches AVB had closest to him were shipped out with AVB. Freund was one of two assistants it would seem and he's still here. However, we (and he himself) don't know for how long. Our new manager might want/accept Freund as his assistant, he might not. He might want Freund around as a coach, he might not. If Freund is offered to stay as a coach, essentially a demotion, he might accept he might not.

Freund has a good reputation in Germany and a growing reputation with us up until AVB was sacked I thought. He will be thinking about his future career at this point. If he doesn't have his agent looking around for potential options should Spurs no longer be the place for him he's more loyal/naive than I think we can expect. His job situation is essentially in limbo.

Sherwood, Ramsey and Ferdinand have clear cut roles at the club away from the day to day running of the first team. Sherwood has stated that he wants the manager job, but if he doesn't get it he has his regular job to go back to at the club.

To me it makes sense to give the caretaker role to Sherwood over Freund for these reasons.

Re: Sherwood Out!

Look I will be honest and say if Sherwood was the actual caretaker then I wouldn't bat an eye
