The transfer thread

I dont think we'll take it up, unless we think we can flip him for a profit in a window or two, and that will earn us more than our sell-on clause. He doesnt really look the calibre.
I’ve heard people who watch him rave about him so it’s hard to tell

Lots think we need a new CM
I’d love Fabian Ruiz in
He ain’t getting enough time at pSG and he is better than that league
Fabian Ruiz would be incredible. He had it all. He easily overshadowed Rodri at the Euros even though most people didn't realise it.

He is the guy who made them tick when he came in
Not starting at PSG despite being arguably their best player
He could play in any midfield in the prem

If we were able to add Ederson and Ruiz to this squad it would massively close the gap. Our midfield would arguably be the best in the PL and both suit Ange but also add some elements that would enhance Ange's system.

Could he adapt to the pace of the EPL at his age, or is it a risk that he's another Casimero?

I think he fit quite well, he's one of those players who has all the time he needs due to the quality of his technique and understanding of tempo
His age is against our profile, but he would one of those experienced and quality heads amongst our younger group.

Casimero struggled when playing English teams in the CL even when younger. Never got the hype with him.

Ruiz is much better all rounded player
He is 28 by the way not an old man

I still worry about buying from this age group. Thiago Alacantara was 29 when he joined Liverpool. Absolute class act who Klopp felt would change the dynamic in their midfield. Was earning over £200k per week. Look how that 4-year contract went.

Then you have similar players like the Silva's, Bernardo and David, and players like Bruno Fernandez who operate or operated really well at 30. I guess we find out what they're like at 31 and 32 or whether they get overrun like Eriksen. He joined Utd at 29 and is now 32. He's never looked like he can hold his own in the physical battle in the PL midfield in a Utd shirt as his legs go. He should have gone to Spain.

I still think that buying players like Ruiz carries a very high risk.

For me, Joao Gomez is a player worth looking at for Spurs. Proven in the PL, needs that step up and is only 23.

Thiago was never fit at Bayern, he had a bad record there that Liverpool ignored because he was cheap

Ruiz is different although technically similar imo

We've basically agreed to sign johnny. Not sure we'd go for another.
We reportedly have a two week period of time to get a deal done. Not an obligation. Cardoso has missed a few games this season with an adductor muscle injury. Also has a slightly worrisome recent history of knee and ankle injuries.

If we're buying a midfielder, who would he be replacing? Sarr, Bissouma and Bentancur all look very solid in DM roles. Kulusevski - technically a midfielder - is in great form. Maddison still feels like an important player. We've committed to youth with Odobert, Bergvall and even Gray in various roles.

So who goes?

Whichever of Biss and Bentancur we're not going to extend their contract on. Numbers wise we look optimum at the moment (7 CMs for 3 spots)

Personally i would stick and keep both, as the upgrades arent obvious at all, and the future is Gray

No one in particular but look at at this way. One obvious way to improve the quality of any team is to bring in better players than you already have. Both Bissouma and Bentancur (so far) have questions about their consistency and ultimate suitability for the DM role. Ederson appears to be at least a level above either of the pair. We've seen this season that Ange is willing to rotate between the pair for the DM role so imagine a scenario where we have a better player as the starter with either with one of them as the secondary option for the role. Or even Ederson comes in as the starter DM freeing Bentancur up to return to the B2B role rotation/competition with Sarr.

Ruiz is just levels above everyone we have in CM so it doesn't matter who you put against him he's the better player. Again if we were to imagine he came in to play the B2B controller role that adds competition for Sarr (someone who I am already a massive fan of) and someone for him to learn off at the same time.

Now I don't think either signing are likely due to Ederson's probable price and some reported interest from bigger clubs and Ruiz due to the age profile but either or both especially would seriously up the levels of quality in the side and really up Ange's ability to dominate possession in a more proficient manner.

Casimero spent his entire career playing alongside Modric & Kroos, totally overhyped and not the player people think he ever was.

We bought Solanke while we had our previous record spend in same position, if Ange is looking for that next level midfielder, I'd prefer we go the route of experienced/prime age vs. another upcoming talent

That's why I was throwing the name Darío Osorio out there. I hear there's a race from Europe's big clubs for this lad. When you're at the 7 perm 3 level in the squad, I think it's OK to buy more of these exciting kids and let them naturally displace the seniors. We're all placing bets with Gray, Bergval, Devine, Donley, Abbott, Craig, Hall, Olusesi etc but only 2 are in the 7 perm 3 equation at the moment. The others are out on loan or playing in our U21's. Some would argue that Mikey Moore could be moved inside as well to compete with Kulu and Madds at some point in the future.

Skipp is now warming Leicester's bench whilst Winks runs the show. Hojbjerg is plodding along in Ligue 1 whilst Gio is doing what a lot of us expected and doing great, whilst looking fragile.

The next transition of our midfield will be the interesting one. The last one was obvious to most.

Never heard of Dario
I’ll do some googling
