The transfer thread

I'm not sure I would take Mitchell. I don't think he is good enough on the ball for an attacking team.

If we're looking for a young left sided player to provide cover/competition for Udogie then El Hadji Malick Diouf from Slavia Prague would be my medium to long term pick, especially now that Dorgu has other suitors amongst the bigger boys and his transfer fee has gone up significantly. Diouf would probably cost half of Dorgu's fee and has similar attributes and potential I think. He would probably need 6 months to adapt to English football which is why I'd supplement that with Chilwell on loan until the summer.
I think he's a solid alrounder. And the cost (none) and HG status swing it for me in a squad building sense. It would basically be comparable to say signing Trippier when we did.

I wonder if we might go back in for last summer's LB target, that Locko at Brest. He'll obviously have missed the whole season with injury, so it's a risk. But he seemed to be the one the data centred on.

We'll only have 40 games instead of 60. We wont be able to keep 7 CMs or 6+ attackers. All our youth players will need to go out, as there will be no minuted at all for them. Its really not a good situation, we need to fluke a cup

We will have a squad of 25 the same as every season. With some youngsters getting some minutes.

So where are all these signings to help Ange then?
Newsnow is pretty boring right now.

Not much point bringing in just anybody to have a bit of cover if the manager doesn't want them. There are players already here he could have used to give players a rest if he wanted to.

Do we ?
Just sell son and release Davies
Maybe Dragusin too
A CM can go
Sell Gil and Veliz and take the hit
That a squad in the tight size and shape

Defence: Davies, Forster, Whiteman, Reggie, Dragusin - nice wage cut, and some money for Dragu turning into new LB. Downside - Phillips and Vuskovic may need to stick around to make up the numbers

Midfield: Make that signature signing in the middle of the park. Biss or Bents has to make way. Downside - Devine might end up back out on loan

Attack: Yep, time for Sonny to go to create space for signature signing. Creates a reprieve for Richi, and space for the young crowd to thrive including Donley, whilst saying goodbye to Solomon, Gil and perhaps Veliz.

I think you're about on the money if we're dealing with a lower net spend and having to be more creative in the trading. We need to keep the core together and add to it. That would be achieved.

We don't have an issue with HG status now. We already have 3 spare spots for overseas players, 4 if you take Regulion's inevitable departure.

Trippier was (and still is) far better on the ball than Mitchell, that is a poor comparison I'd say. Mitchell is a defensive full back. Fine in a defensive team like Palace. He'd probably also work at West Ham or Brentford. We're not that team these days (though of course it is entirely conceivable that we lurch back to that with our next managerial appointment)

There's definitely a shift that happens between European and non-European sides. Say 18 seniors + 7 kids for non, versus 22 seniors + 3 kids for in.
We went into this season with 20 seniors (though the term is used reasonably loosely with some of the below).

Vicario
Forster
Udogie
Spence
VdV
Romero
Dragusin
Porro
Davies
Regulion
Sarr
Bentancur
Bissouma
Maddison
Werner
Son
Johnson
Kulu
Richi
Solanke
