Reminds me of when we tried to compete with Leeds for Lee SharpeTake Marcus Gashford in a heartbeat.
Don't think we will because of wages though.

I’ll interject with more speculationThis is the main point.
If he was not on our radar as a long followed target, we will not want an obligation. He could do a Werner for all we know and the obligation price won't be cheap. An option fits in with how we operate and obligation fudges with the plans if it's not working out. De-risk wherever we can (we've been burnt enough FFS).
Few clubs would want/accept/afford an obligation so it will probably soften to an option at the back end of January.
If we rate him ridiculously highly wouldn't we be more interested in an obligation or at the very least an option? That's what I'm getting at (whilst of course having no real idea) is that if we are in for him it will most likely be because we want him permanently. The only way we would be interested in a straight loan is if we rated him ridiculously high as I think our wingers will be returning soonish( I haven't really seen him to see if this is a possibility) and Ange would rather give game time to those at the club long term..
TwiceI’ll interject with more speculation
We were linked with him before he went to PSG don’t forget
He played against us twice too in the CL for Franfurt
If we rate him ridiculously highly wouldn't we be more interested in an obligation or at the very least an option?
I agree that if we're in for him it's most likely because we want him permanently.
I posted this in another thread but that was to negotiate Paris Baguette being our food partner! We must want him permanently because we've got our best negotiator to fly to Paris. He'll be ours at 10pm on the 31 Jan
I think there is an Ange factor. But different players will resonate with different managers in different ways. Most managers at this kind of level will be able to "sell" the prospect of joining a club. Its not an Ange factor, plenty of players these days when signing talk about having conversations with the manager beforehand - it's not something special that Ange has come up with. I'm not convinced he would choose us ahead of Villa but regardless, there are the likes of Juve also looking at him - point being we are unlikely to be the most attractive option we have to the player so will have to make sure we differentiate any offer we are looking to make to PSG....
Im not sure how much of an anyone factor there is when they are odds on in the top 3 next managers to be sacked list (behind only Oneil and Dyche).I think there is an Ange factor. I quite like what Ange has said about only wanting to sign players who really want to join, that's it's not a "hard sell" at least. I think that's a good approach and I think that will resonate with the kind of players we'd want to attract.
Yes, I just meant if we do take up a loan only kind of deal then we must rate him highly and someone who will really make an instant impact as it would reduce the minutes for Moore/Odobert and I don't think the club would do that lightly. And they still might do a loan only deal because they don't have the capacity (funds) for a permanent transfer but still believe he would make enough of a short term impact to make it worthwhile.....If we rate him ridiculously highly wouldn't we be more interested in an obligation or at the very least an option?

He has his own 'charm' that some players will like and be attracted to for sure. But the idea that Ange contacting players beforehand and vetting is nothing that various other managers do, it's not something special to Ange (which was what the post I replied to was alluding to). Even at West Ham under Moyes all potential recruits had to go through the 'Moyes test' and I've seen various players signing for a club talking about how they had conversations with the manager before signing. There is nothing particularly special or different with what Ange is doing, most managers really do their homework on players now - it's just the modern football way.....I think there is an Ange factor. Then we're pretty much in perfect agreement I thinkHe has his own 'charm' that some players will like and be attracted to for sure. Wow…. Ahead of Lopetegui?Im not sure how much of an anyone factor there is when they are odds on in the top 3 next managers to be sacked list (behind only Oneil and Dyche).
He plays on the other flank to Moore and Odobert. The main gap he's filling is that Kulu is now our starting ACM (displacing Maddison), so Johnson is now our only full-time RWF.Yes, I just meant if we do take up a loan only kind of deal then we must rate him highly and someone who will really make an instant impact as it would reduce the minutes for Moore/Odobert and I don't think the club would do that lightly. They've stopped taking bets on that now, so the other three have all bumped up one placeWow…. Ahead of Lopateggi?
Best link so far , slots straight in and improves the 11We're supposedly interested in Douglas Luiz from Juventus according to an Italian journalist quite well connected to Juve. He has been brick there apparently. Loved him at Villa, so not completely against that, but would probably cost a lot?

Think she is Swiss and gorgeous tooI saw people comment that his wife, English woman I believe, used to play for Wet Spam, is now a Juventus player as well, and that she apparently decides things around the Luiz house. I have no clue whether that is true or not, but I reckon this deal is very unlikely anyway. Only half a year at Juve after such a big money transfer? I can't really see it.
Think she is Swiss and gorgeous too
Big she could always sign for us too
