The Society of Black Lawyers...

If it is focused upon the rights of black people then it is discriminating against everyone else.

It is stating that the discrimination of black people is more important than any discrimination against anyone else.

(but without full knowledge of what they do this is only based upon your assumptions, so could be completely wrong)

Choosing to help a group of people because you feel they deserve that help is hardly that bad is it?

Premises:

1. In the past minorities were discriminated against and so ended up in the lower social classes a lot of the time.

2. Their children and grandchildren are overrepresented in those lower social classes today, at least partly because of the racism in the past.

Based on this I would say that.

1. This isn't a fair situation.

2. To work towards evening out the differences in social class between minorities and the majority in a country seems like a solid idea. Organizations doing this would probably have to focus their attention on some of the minorities or on minorities over the majority.

You have a point that you have to be careful about pushing that too far and making it a problem with discrimination the other way, however i don't think the existence of groups like the ones we talk about here is a problem in itself, only if they take it too far or do something stupid.

Really? But by doing that, they're not saying that other forms of discrimination aren't as important but that this is what they focus on.

When you give to a charity, are you in your mind telling yourself that all other charities in the world do a less important job?

And I agree with your in parenthesis.

I get the feeling that is just the different way in which we might view things.

No, i don't feel that way about charities. But i don't see charities that only help young black kids, or young asian kids, or anything like that. They tend to help all races within their bounds.

No, it is not exactly a bad thing, i just tend to think of helping a specific group as more of an exclusion to other groups. That might just be me i guess.

I am a perfectionist at times, and in a perfect world these 'societies' would not exist because they would not have to exist.. So i guess it might just be my way of looking at it..

We have two black people in our team of 20 at work... It just so happens that we have two but we didnt hire them because of skin colour we hired them based on qualifications and competencies as well as experience. We rejected blacks, whites, asians hell im sure we rejected muslims too. No doubt that comes across in those statistics so those statistics in my view can easily be misconstrued and show something that actually isnt. Of the 20 about 14 of them are girls - did we hire them just because theyre girls? why didnt we hire more men? actually we are going against the grain where most guys get the good jobs isnt that how the media portrays things?

Its like anything - look at rap music - the majority are black artists yet you dont have a white rappers society (i hope im not proved wrong here haha) yet we dont really take notice of it because racism in that industry doesnt exist it just so happens that black artists are better at rapping. Its all strengths and weaknesses.

Im not in any way shape or form debating that racism doesnt exist but like someone mentioned in another post thats not the root cause thats the end result. The root cause is ignorance and naivety resulting from a lack of education. The root cause can be eradicated at school if you want to go down that path. That ignorance and naivety is what caused the fracas in Serbia - they dont know any better.

As Eclipse says - like football we are feeling the repercussions of the root cause problem which was experienced in the 60's, 70's, 80's and that was that the blacks etc were poorly educated leading to their kids nowadays not being educated enough (as their parents werent able to either afford education or as like any other race their kids ended up as truants) this is why they dont get the jobs etc.

In 20 years time you will see those stats you mentioned improve but it wont be because of the likes of the SBA it will be because kids are getting education and becoming well learned and getting the qualifications to become employed etc.

But at no point have I said that all people who aren't of the 'power group' (ie heterosexual middle aged white men) who don't get the job get rejected because of who they are.

And actually, we're one of the societies which is coming closer and closer to full gender equality in the workplace. One of the things that makes me proudest of living in this country.

But the root cause isn't being eradicated, that's the point. I'm only a supporter of positive discrimination up to a point. That has to come alongside real change at the base level so that everyone gets the same opportunities. And pos discrimination should still ensure that those getting picked are good at their job, rather than a random person from that minority.

How will they improve when, without intervention, the cycle continues? Black kid grows up in a council estate with appalling schools, leave school at 16, struggle to get a job, have kids in the same area and the cycle continues over and over. There are some areas of London today where the kids are coming out of school barely literate. Until you can show real progress in those kinds of areas, I see no reason why such groups should stop functioning.

That is again naive though, we don't live in a perfect world and even with the acceptance that we probably never will I accept that it's a decent goal to aim at and the question becomes "how do we get there"?

I don't think the answer is to be naive and pretend that we're already there.

It's not naive, i just think the way forward to achieve it is to integrate rather then segregate.

Ridiculous. Just trying to make a name for themselves.

Do they allow white lawyers to join their society or do the discriminate against them on the basis of their colour?

This is a question that will be ignored on here it seems. Out of interest what is the purpose of this 'society'??

Who are these fudging clowns?

Theyre the definition of hypocrits, surely their whole 'society' is discriminatory?

C*nts

That's like what the whole thread has been about.

*facepalm*

No it's about how they want to stop the word Yid being used not what they stand for. The name of their 'society' is racist in itself so I'm slightly confused as to how they can demand a stop to supposed racist language.

And keep the petty comments to yourself.

I can understand the society of black lawyers looking out for issues that affect black players. But themis has nothing to do with them

Im pretty sure there aren't a whole lot of blacks Jewish people, so this organization which doesn't allow Jewish members is standing up for Jewish rights?

Guys
I have been a lurker on this forum for a long time and after my comments the mods will probably ban me for ever.
But this rubbish from these stupid attention seeking ****s is pathetic.
I have supported our club for 50 years plus and had to put up with loads of abusive comments over those years (of all sorts). From all clubs.
You take and give abuse to other fans it is banter.
But for these fudging idiots to say they will report us to the police for using OUR chant is beyond belief.
FFS even the club supports our chants, and they even had a vote on the web site a few years ago to ask our views.
I very rarely shout or sing (at my age) but I know that the next time THE YID ARMY chant comes up i will join in.
I have had enough of this fudging political correctness.
Come on guys say I am wrong

Aside from celebrities who converted (like Sammy Davis Jr) the only black Jewish people I know about in any large numbers are the Ethiopian Jews who have all been re-settled in Israel during the past 20 years or so.

I can only think of this as a positive thing....

If the backlash to this doesn't result in some atmosphere at the Lane then I don't think anything will
