The Official Olympic Thread

Norweigan olympic champion in mens walk admitted it yesterday. Kept it in the fridge and told his gf it was vitamins.

Feels like one where we had got it right with the lifetime bans which were then overturned centrally somewhere, hence chambers being allowed to be picked. Despite the talk of the olympic spirit and anti-doping in the speeches at the opening ceremony it just feels like the authorities aren't that interested in actually stopping it.

This is where it gets bizarre. We had a lifelong ban for Olympic selection and it was WADA that opposed the ban. It strains credibility that the world anti-doping agency took Britain to court to overturn the Olympic ban and ensure drug cheats could attend the games. There is no reason individual nations shouldn't be allowed to be stricter with their drug cheats.

The older system where there was a four year ban was much better. At least it ensure one Olympic cycle missed. But this caused problems in US courts so the bans were reduced to two years. They relaxed it further so some only get one year, e.g. for missing tests.

A guy from my class at high school is the only Australian male competing in the Modern Pentathlon today. Such a strange event and weird to watch someone you know (the only time I'll choose it over the a football match).

He won't win or even come close but it's amazing. Ed Fernon is his name.

Farah was incredible, what a race.

Strange 800m from the "women" there - Semenya allowed them to go clear and kicked waaaayyyyy too late

Then when "she" crossed the line she wasn't even tired or panting for breath

The bloke should have gone much earlier, what a twit

Silver though
