The Official 2016/17 Premier League Thread

Handy result for us! I still have them down to finish marginally above us, but makes it very close and they have some tough games left

i could see them dropping points against the dippers too

pep doesn't strike me as being capable of taking the pragmatic easy win either

Imagine being Pep Guardiola this morning.

You've just seen all the fun and magic created by Bayern and Barca. And Mark Hughes has just made you and your mega-millions superstars look ordinary.

This isn't what he came to England for.

Tbf, he created magic a couple of weeks vs Monaco, plus Bayern and Barca also drop points in their league sometimes too so i doubt he's too bothered really (per se).

However, he certainly will be bothered if he doesn;t join those other coaches in the quarter final draw...

Fucque fair. I saw the dramatic comeback against Monaco and it was more desperation than magic. Should never have been needed but any manager would be pleased to see such a turnaround.

Dropping points at home to Stoke in such a drab and listless fashion ought to be a bother to him. It will be to his fans and paymasters who won't really enjoy having to watch how the rivals for top four placings are faring in the days ahead. Even if City weren't going to win the PL title, they should have been comfortably astride and spurring along a big beast named Second Place, riding comfortably enough away with a top three domestic placing so that CL play could be given full priority.

pep would be absolutely disgusted with barca's performance over the tie, PSG had 34% possession last night, 34%!

And Luis Henrique might win his 2nd treble of Champs League, La Liga and Copa Del Rey in 3 seasons, sandwiching a league and cup double last season. With a lesser midfield and defence than Guardiola had imo. Bayern tore it up before Pep and are tearing it up after. Emirates Marketing Project...don't really look any better than in previous years imo, the problems at centre-half remain and their attackers bail them out more often than not.

I've said that for a long time. Pep is the most overhyped manager in history. Barca were better before and after him. Same with Bayern. And both of them play better/more attractive football without him. Barca under Pep was a borefest! Pass, pass, pass, pass, pass, backwards, pass, pass, pass, pass, pass, sideways etc... Boring as fudge. They are a lot more direct and attack-minded now.

I don't think Barca were better before him, not in terms of trophies won. By their standards, they were poor for a couple of seasons before he took over. I do think Guardiola's Barca is the strongest team I've seen in my lifetime, they dominated every game they played, even the odd few they lost. Bayern won more before he took charge and look just as strong with Ancelotti imo, on course to win the league again.

But when you look at Emirates Marketing Project now, I think that the all-dominating Barca team was as much down to having a peak Messi/Xavi/Iniesta/Puyol as it was down to Guardiola's coaching.

Don't you think coming back from 4-0 down after the first leg should also "never have been needed"?

Is dropping points at home to Stoke any different to us dropping points at home to Leicester? Or Man utd vs Bournemouth? Or Arsenal vs Middlesbrough? I could mention Liverpool this calendar year but i guess you get the point...

Without a doubt this is his biggest challenge so far (being in probably the most competitive league) but let's wait a while to mock...

This; especially your last sentence
