The "Official" 2013/14 Other teams matches thread

I think Gerrard is really starting to struggle to get around the pitch. He still tries hard and has great technique - that recent England goal was lovely - but he's looking increasingly cumbersome and one-dimensional to me.

Being everywhere has always been a huge part of his game, not sure if has the tools to compensate for that.

Yeah, it's not like Gerrard can sit in a small patch of the pitch like Pirlo or Totti and make things happen with little dinks and turns and sneaky balls in behind the line...his game has never really been about deftness like that. He's box-to-box or, well, not nothing, but much diminished for sure.

Strange to see Liverpool so completely concede possession again as the game progressed last night. They were barely able to string a couple of passes together at times and Swansea looked dominant. Not an easy place to go and Swansea looked in good form, but last season Liverpool were very good at retaining possession. Might have something to do with their back 4 being somewhat makeshift though.

1. Scholes
2. Lampard
3. Gerrard

5 years ago I would have said Gerrard 2nd but Lampard has shown the longevity which Gerrard hasn't. Gerrard has been on the decline for about 5 years now whereas Lampard still gets 15 goals a season. This is purely for club btw.

Scholes is the best out of the 3 though. Great range of passing, scored great goals and important goals, controlled games and a dirty bastard to boot.

Some great games tonight. I'm a big fan of Kießling so I will probably start with the Leverkusen-United game and see how it goes. Desperatly want us to be back in the CL next season, it really is the place to be.

Oh and come on Galatasaray!

It pains me to see Scholes even placed in the same solar system as Gerrard and Lampard. The latter two have been superb players for years but like Xavi and the continental geniuses, Scholes is on a technically different level to either and has adapted over time to new roles with ease.

Will be watching Real - Gala.

Gala not in the best form at the moment but should be interesting.

Hope to see Yilmaz and Drogba up top.

Sam is very talented, looking forward to seeing him play tonight. In fact, Leverkusen have a strong front three. I think it could be a tough game but Man U to win with both teams to score.

I will be fascinated by how Moyes deals with this. He got his **** slapped when he was with Everton in the ECL.

I think the greater experience of his squad will help. My only fear for this round of games is that teams settle for a draw, thinking it vital that they don't lose their first game and so playing more for a draw, to avoid defeat, than the win.

Kagawa was impressing me until he did that stepover. Fellaini doing OK. Rooney scores after RVP does good work.

United doing OK.
