The "Official" 2013/14 Other teams matches thread

He played in a deep position for us -- that's what made Madrid pay the money for him. I'm guessing that's why he hardly scored or assisted. Either that, or he was a tad over-rated. :p

Not true...sometimes he did, but his favored (and best) position was not playing in front of our back four. Perhaps I spent his last season and a half watching another player, but i could've sworn the midfielder Arry deployed in a creative/knitting/attacking sense was the smaller on with Modric on his back.Or was that man who was often threading passes/one-twos/looking to create in the final third actually Sandro? They can be hard to differentiate...:p

p.s. credit to Harry for seeing what his ace in the pack was and for knowing how to use him most effectively eventually (although he DID start by using him on the left before he was able to get him in the middle again)...

Thats why as far as I was concerned he was a ****in idiot for going SO soon. Should have stuck it out with us for another year. The grass is NOT always greener on the other side.

This.
We have Madrid and his agent to thank for that...he was not averse but he was happy to wait another season...

Modric was a proper CM. He was neither an attacking midfielder or a defensive one. He would often collect the ball from the back four and dictate our play.

Gareth Bale's El Clasico Debut: 54% pass completion rate, 0% take-on success, 0% cross success, 2 fouls & 1 yellow card. Absolutely abject.

Jol sadly won't be long in his job.
They have some killer games coming up, starting with United and Liverpool.
Also Everton, West Ham (a), Spurs, City.
Can't see much points going their way, and owner will find it difficult to support Jol in the transfer window with such a poor first part of season.

Ramos had him situated as deep midfielder, Harry first had him on the left due to injuries but then gave him the freedom and license to attack further once he went into the middle. In the 4-4-2 Harry favored, you'd be hard-pressed to have ever called him a deep-lying playmaker; that he had the freedom to dictate play from wherever he needed to was why he was so effective. So yes, he would sometimes collect the ball from the back four, but he didn't sit there for the entire game. In the first-half today he seemed shackled to a deep role. When 'released' in the second-half, he was excellent. With regards to Bale, I think if Madrid want to see the best of him, they need to grow a pair and start using him to his strengths or admit that he was a signing from the boardroom which has no correlation with the style Madrid play.

Southampton continue their good start. I'm not convinced they will stay the course, but as each week goes by they are chipping away at me, and to be fair, credit where its due, they have already been to Anfield and Old Trafford and come away with 4pts.

I suppose if we had done that we would be fancy our chances of winning the title

As with Liverpool, no European distractions will certainly help them

I thought he would have been sacked a few weeks ago and was suprised he survived. He is definetly not long for Fulham. Ron Jeremy will be looking for a new manager this week.

:ross:=D>

yes indeed, he'll be looking for a harder team with greater penetration from all angles...NSFW???

This is one of the main problem they are having.

I have no clue and how could Khedira plays in a advance role , driving forward frequently while Modric sits so deep .
The first half is just a reflection of his role in this season , being told to play deep , make 5 yards simple pass, didn't get much involved in the attack.

When Ozil was still in the team i think there's nothing wrong to play Modric a deeper as a no.8 (Mourinho once explained the reason why he signed Modric because he thought that Modric is a functional player who can play as a no.10 , no.8 or even no.6 depends on the game plan and situations).
But once Ozil left and Isco didn't feature that much in recent games , you can see R.Madrid are struggled to build up from the midfield to the final third, in stead of it , they just pump a long ball to the three attackers and let them go 1 on 1.

Really liking Southampton this season, think they might be my second team. Largely because I think Potch is a mini AVB and his project is similar. Would gladly have him at Spurs in the future. Hope they get some good full backs in reserve so they aren't buggered if Shaw or Clyne get injuries because from everywhere else, they seem to be looking pretty damn good. Lovren looks class.

Watching the ajax game on betfair live and GHod they are poor i mean anyone who lost to celtic must be a little **** but they just do not look good.

Buy of the season so far for me and someone man u could really do. Yep southampton are on the up good on them.

Man u have some quality up front but they need 4 good players in the spine of there team to do anything.

As for us we need another striker and a manager who gives the players more confidence to attack and use wingers more. Would like cover in the fullback positions as well.

When arry first took over he played luka just behind the lone striker in a 4-4-1-1. He stated that he saw him best in that position.

That was after juande Ramos continuously played him in a deeper defensive position.

Yep thats all true. But he spent most of his career at Spurs bang smack in the middle of midfield. He was partnered by Palacios, Huddlestone and then Parker/occasionally Sandro. But I never felt it was Parker who just sat or Luka who just sat. Parker tried to destroy, and give it simple to Luka. That's how I saw it anyway.

Yea agreed, he was like a box to box play maker with us. Absolutely loved Luka... And he broke my heart with that Chelsea sh*t.
