The "Official" 2013/14 Other teams matches thread

I'm sorry, is he not in the correct position at Real Madrid? I was under the impression he was a central midfielder?

Where did he spend the first-half? It most certainly looked to me, for 45 minutes, that he was 5 yards off his own penalty area, deeper than a scuba diver.

That, BTW, was NOT Modric's best position and you know it. He is far far more effective playing where has been for the second-half...in an ADVANCED midfield position/with more freedom to float. He is not Sandro.

Plus Lamela hasn't even started a league match yet. What can you really prove playing against the likes of Sheriff? He needs to do better but he can't do much from the bench.

That's kind of my point, he's on the bench for a reason, but that doesn't mean the fans should get on his back. He has to show in training and the few chances he gets that he deserves more. Until he does we should be patient. If he's still deservedly warming the bench at the end of the season questions might have to be asked. Unless our other attackers have had the seasons of their lives perhaps.

I always thought he was best playing deep for us.

Not that deep IMO. He was at his best, IMO, when playing with someone who sat deeper (i.e. Sandro, Parker) who allowed him freedom to push higher/dictate higher up the pitch/move freely. When he played as a deep midfielder I always thought he was wasted and we were not nearly as effective.

The way we're playing now doesn't rely on Soldado, it starves Soldado. We need his link up play but we need to play more through passes to him, so that he may benefit and continue to score as he did against Villa. Either that or Soldado and Townsend practice crosses for a day so that the pair of them link well when Townsend sends the crosses across.

Not sure where you're getting that from...I am pointing out some clear issues that surround him right now. I DO have a very clear idea what happened, I said it in the summer, and got my usual ****ging for it from a few. the bottom line is that when you buy a Ferrari and drive it like a Fiat Uno, you will destroy the car. They aren't designed for that. And Bale doesn't have the ego necessary to force his issue. I think it's a tragic waste...I noted that he could yet find his feet, but he will NOT get much time. I'd say he's fast living on borrowed time right now...

That Sanchez goal? Unbelievable. Stupidly great.

I havent seen the game but surely its a bit early to decide if he is going to be successful or not? I dont particularly care if he succeeds or not but my personal viewpoint is he wont simply because he went too early and to a team who really didnt need him and wasnt geared towards him but moreso towards Ronaldo.

You are quite right - using him as a fiat Uno wont work for him and unfortunately, whilst it is no fault of his own, the fans will get on his back soon and before you know it he will become despondent and disheartened.

I have a feeling we have a buy back clause and we get first dibs.

I'll go one further and say that if AVB had managed to either get him to Chelski, or keep him, he would most certainly have been right in there behind the front three, in the hole, quite possibly where we see Eriksen...

Ray Hudson is commentating in the US, like Sid Waddell hahah

I don't disagree...especially in normal football...but this is a weird club with weird expectations and insane pressure.

i agree he needs more intelligent service (this season he has been standing 6 yards out with an open goal 4 or 5 times waiting for the pull-back instead of flash across goal) but his link-up play is vital. Tis why I hope Ade makes it back with some fervor...

He played in a deep position for us -- that's what made Madrid pay the money for him. I'm guessing that's why he hardly scored or assisted. Either that, or he was a tad over-rated. :p

Thats why as far as I was concerned he was a ****in idiot for going SO soon. Should have stuck it out with us for another year. The grass is NOT always greener on the other side.

Likewise, I've said as much elsewhere. I said that he could be our biggest surprise 'signing' this season, if he comes back and decides that he wants to really push for a starting place and to keep it.
