I'm not really getting the Luiz hate, sure he had a shaky start with some pretty spectacular highlight fudge ups but I think most have taken what they've said on MOTD as gospel as opposed to watching him play, it's fashionable to not rate him.

Luiz will be a quality player for Chelsea, as much as we want him to fail. He was much better than Cahill last night for a start obviously it's not about being better, it's about forming a partnership.
His positioning isn't very good and he looks extremely nonchalant when defending in and around the 18 yard box. In the future he may well become a great defender, but at this particular moment he looks like a liability. Many of Chelsea's recent goals conceded can be attributed to him, the last of which being last night!

Oh yeah definitely, but I don't think Luiz or Agger are likely. Now Agger's got his injury problems out of the way he's been fudging good.

Agger would be a great long-term replacement for King. Slotting him next to Kaboul would be very solid indeed - he can fill in for a few seasons before Caulker matures. If only Liverpool would sell!

I stopped watching at half time unfortunately so still haven't seen the goal.

Fair enough though, I think he gets a bit more of the blame attached to him essentially because he is a bit of a character, has a different way of doing things. Players like Bosingwa who have been fudging diabolical have gotten away with it, and long may that continue!!! \o/

Ball was played forward and Luiz got to the ball at a similar time to Cavani while it was bouncing (I think it was Cavani anyway) - Luiz could have just tried to clear the ball out of harms way but tried to control the ball and play it back towards it's original position. The attacker ended up mopping it up and passing it sideways to Lavezzi for an easy side-footed finish into the goal without a 'keeper.

With some more experience he'll learn to treat percentage balls like that with a little more respect. The margin for error was slim as the ball was just on the edge of the 18 yard box - had that been Ivanovic in that situation he would have tussled with the attacker and most likely booted the ball into touch.

He'll learn eventually, though, he's very good on the ball as we all know.

Sorry, but I'll disagree here

A excellent player holds his own in any context. If anything - he should be leaps above Luiz if he was such quality. Looks at his tackles, mate - shockorama.

King looks good alongside any clown. So does Bale, etc.

Only limited players need someone to hold their hand and cover their shortcomings. As far as stirker partnerships go - if often comes down to understanding more than complimenting, imv - 2 players knowing how to move, pass, look for eachother.

Fixed it for you. And even then it's not an exact science. Owen and Shearer were two great forwards, but what a brick partnership.

Luiz reminds me of Kaboul when we first got him. You can tell he has the tools to be a top class defender but he is a way off from the finished product just too inexperienced and makes way too many errors. IMO he shouldn't be near the first team of a team like Chelsea but they have left themselves short of options.

Getting rid of Alex was fudging ridiculous (IMO). I don't understand how you can push out a player who has performed to such a high level for the last few seasons, and has been a key aspect to their trophy wins a couple of years back. His partnership with Terry was arguably the best in the league, and bringing forward the inexperienced Luiz as a starter ahead of him was always going to show up.

For sure Alex was quality and even when he was in and out of the team he always put in a good performance and on top of that Carvalho who IMO was the best CB in the league, always made Terry look better than he actually was
