The smugness of those clams talking about 'St.Totteringham's Day' makes me reject such an idea. Who gives a brick about them.
I think the reason that they haven't spent in the transfer market is because they didn't make as much on selling the Highbury flats as they had budgeted for and because they are still paying for their stadium. A stadium which was financed on the assumption of getting Champions League football. They are a generally well run club, so finishing outside the top four will not be fatal but it will affect them and the targets they can realistically go for in the summer.
More than anything, finishing outside of the top four will be another nail in Wenger's coffin. However much we all think that he has lost it, he is over achieving with the players he has at his disposal and I doubt that anyone coming in, given the same resources, will do as well as he has.
As I understand it, their budget on the new stadium allowed for them to fail to qualify for the CL twice in every 10 years.
As they're not selling any flats right now, that has to have been reduced to one year. Assuming next season is their one outside the CL, we only need to keep them out for one more before they start selling players to fund the death star.
Just goes to show how big a risk building a new stadium is - even with solid finance in place.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger on whether his side can qualify for the Champions League after picking up just one point from their last three games: "The belief is there, the desire is there and the confidence is there. We have come through a difficult period and we have of course a fight in front of us but we are ready for it."
Fulham, Swansea, Man united, Bolton... only one of those is difficult.. how can that be classed a difficult period?

And it only took 24 hours for him to be proven totally wrong.
I don't think that uncle Mike guy is serious. I looked at their match thread after the Swansea game and he claimed that they wouldn't even have to worry about us next season as they would win the league and we would...wait for it....win the championship?
Confused? I and all the others on that board were too. But apparently, we're getting relegated this season. Seems he has upgraded our position by quite a bit now but I wouldn't take what he says seriously.
Easter Monday, April 9th.
After they have crumbled for the umpteenth time this season against Emirates Marketing Project on the 7th and then Wolves at Molineux on the 9th, our draw away at Sunderland and home win against Noriwch will mean they are unable to finish above us.
Unlucky.
