The Goon Thread

I think the reason that they haven't spent in the transfer market is because they didn't make as much on selling the Highbury flats as they had budgeted for and because they are still paying for their stadium. A stadium which was financed on the assumption of getting Champions League football. They are a generally well run club, so finishing outside the top four will not be fatal but it will affect them and the targets they can realistically go for in the summer.

More than anything, finishing outside of the top four will be another nail in Wenger's coffin. However much we all think that he has lost it, he is over achieving with the players he has at his disposal and I doubt that anyone coming in, given the same resources, will do as well as he has.

As I understand it, their budget on the new stadium allowed for them to fail to qualify for the CL twice in every 10 years.

As they're not selling any flats right now, that has to have been reduced to one year. Assuming next season is their one outside the CL, we only need to keep them out for one more before they start selling players to fund the death star.

Just goes to show how big a risk building a new stadium is - even with solid finance in place.

And it shows what an even bigger risk it is to not win anything for year after year while not buying players to get silverware. They sell out the Effeminates every week but that doesn't mean a thing if players think they're not going to collect medals.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger on whether his side can qualify for the Champions League after picking up just one point from their last three games: "The belief is there, the desire is there and the confidence is there. We have come through a difficult period and we have of course a fight in front of us but we are ready for it."

Fulham, Swansea, Man united, Bolton... only one of those is difficult.. how can that be classed a difficult period?

All four of those games are difficult imo. Doesn't mean you pick up 1 point :ross: but they're difficult.

I think Walcott can be a good player but he just isn't suitable to Arsenal's system whatsoever. I think he'd look a different player in our system.

And Arsenal's squad is brick. Who is their reserve rightback? Djourou? Both of their leftbacks are brick. Mertesacker is brick. Most of their midfield options are brick, though in fairness to them, they can still keep the ball relatively well. And other than RVP, their striking options are average.

But maybe I shouldn't laugh at Arsene and Arsenal? After all, he has forgotten more about management than any of us will ever know and us football managers shouldn't comment on professional managers' dealings.

They were robbed really by only getting 100m for stadium sponsorship over 15 years.
8 years later and we're looking to 400m over 20 years.

And it only took 24 hours for him to be proven totally wrong.

LOL its that Uncle Mike character! All he does is post in the anti Spurs thread to gain recognition despite being someone from the US who knows next to nothing about football....apart from what he has read online and has never even been to a game live.

So if anyone from Arsenal-Mania is reading this, especially Uncle Mike, then this is for you:Uncle Mike, You're a complete johnny come lately Bell!!!!

I don't think that uncle Mike guy is serious. I looked at their match thread after the Swansea game and he claimed that they wouldn't even have to worry about us next season as they would win the league and we would...wait for it....win the championship?

Confused? I and all the others on that board were too. But apparently, we're getting relegated this season. Seems he has upgraded our position by quite a bit now but I wouldn't take what he says seriously.

Easter Monday, April 9th.

After they have crumbled for the umpteenth time this season against Emirates Marketing Project on the 7th and then Wolves at Molineux on the 9th, our draw away at Sunderland and home win against Noriwch will mean they are unable to finish above us.

Unlucky.

He literally means it lol! Everything he writes about on that board is with a view digging at Spurs......I think its the humour or something? He has started a song about Ryan Giggs being Bale's dad?!

Got a feeling it will be late March.

OT - For anyone who needs cheering up

Probably doesn't need its own thread, but stuff it.

I will say this...when it is mathematically impossible for them to get into the top 4, I will laugh...

I tried to float this idea a while back. So pleased its been taken up now! fudge you gooners!

I think this is a jinx just waiting to happen.

That said fudge you Arsene, Saint Thierry, smug-faced Oxlade-Chamberlain and f*ck all you smug goons for 2 decades of smugness.

Mid April. Will know once we get these tough matches we have coming up out of the way.

Arsene Wenger: On the positive side we haven't lost and we haven't conceded a goal.
