Social media in general is an absolute cancer on society. It’s literally rewired people’s brains. The worst aspect now is it’s almost impossible to completely avoid it. The ban on under-16s is something I 100% support as a father with two teenagers. I don’t really count old-school message boards such as this in the same way as your Twitter/X, Instagram, TikTok, and YT, etc.

Sadly it is boith unavoidable and a very, very real part of how things get 'done' in the world. Apalling as that might be to acknowledge!
I have said for the past 15 years it needs to be a specific area of media studies which is taught in schools with regards to uses, ramifications, how it can be positive and also how to disengage from it. Social media is a tool, as is everything about it. The biggest thing for me would be the teach the differential between news and 'content'. These companies are very clever in how they've re-wired us. Instead of shouting at it, we need to understand it and mitigate its negative powers...

I see your point, but note that if you are in public, you will already be being filmed from several angles of security cameras.

And sometimes those camera glasses can be a good thing e.g. if police are harassing you for no reason, or those US traffic stops with angry police / ICE, or creepy guys approaching women, or crazy women alleging something happened which did not. Note a LOT of people have dashcams so they can prove/dispute what happened, so it is a bit like that. And NO, I do not own or wear those camera glasses, before you start!

It's a good question and I guess my view on that is that even if it doesn't stop the crime, at least it can help prosecute and convict? I understand the concerns there, but I think there's far greater risk from private companies. They have billions and billions of dollars at stake, whereas most governments could barely run a children's birthday party.

The idea behind the glasses is great, but like a lot great well meaning ideas they get abused by idiots and it spoils it.

I agree — all it really needs is a giant red light to indicate filming. But this is Meta. They know they’ll get more PR (and thus $$$$$$) this way.

My issue is that these yt guys never go back and talk about their failures. They will slate the Andy Robinson signing because they have a list of left backs from Belgium. But won’t remember they wanted us to spend £40M on Patson Daka.

I was thinking about this guy today but I couldn't for the life of me remember his name. I do remember all the clamour for him but honestly I doubt anyone had even watched him play and that's the issue a lot of the time.

People tend to rate players not based on much actual evidence or viewing.

My educated guess is that the laws on filming for voyeurism purposes would be governed by the same laws regardless of whether you're holding a camera, a phone or wearing glasses. What's illegal or legal won't change because of what device you have unfortunately.

We've always known that innovation leads legislation. We also know that the big techs won't have a moral high ground on the legislation.

However, I sort of get the innovation of these glasses and the way they interact with the phone. I've worn bone conducting headphones for years and don't put anything in my ears. Now these glasses have that audio tech so you can take phone calls through your glasses. You can also speak in English and the translation will pop up on your phone in the language you need. You can look at a building of significance and ask Meta to share the history.

You can sort of see all these cool use cases for these glasses appearing and I guess it won't be too long before we're watching TV through them and all sorts of other examples. That's how innovation works.

As a musician, I'd love to wear them on stage and get the photo's and videos from the inside. I won't for the reasons you say though. Too scared to have them until they are more normalised into society and the severe punishments are in place for the wrongful uses.
