The Centre Back thread

It's Sevilla that's interested in Sanchez at the moment
Indeed so.
But if we're willing for Sanchez to move on, then why not offer him as part of another alternative deal too (As nice as it would be, we are surely not getting Kounde and Romero)

Indeed. Paratici purchased him for Juve circa 26m euros. Then struck a deal to loan him to Atalanta for 2 years with a 16m euro buy option having never played a game for Juve.

I'm pretty sure this wasn't on his CV he gave to Levy.
The player stayed at Genoa on loan for a year after Juventus bought him from them. I expect both Genoa and Atalanta have paid Juventus loan fees for the player which means they wouldn't have been too much out of pocket if Atalanta took up their option on him. Having bought the player pre-covid and agreed a deal for him to leave at the peak of covid, losing just a small amount of money on the player isn't as bad as it sounds IMO.

Am I right in saying that Sanchez had a pretty good Copa America? (I didn't really watch any of it but think I saw a few bits and pieces suggesting that was the case). If so then selling him now to Italy or Spain would be a sensible move as the many clubs in Italy and Spain play a South American style of football.

I'm hoping that we're looking to replace 3 members of our defence and our bids for Tomiyasu, Romero and Kounde are in the hope of getting all three as opposed to getting only one or two of the three.

Seems like the club are hoping to offload Sanchez as part of a deal and value him around £20 to £25m. With Brighton selling White to Arsenal for £50m, I think they'll be interested in Rodon and I wonder whether we'll cash in on him to help fund our deals.

He had a decent run, they got to 3rd.

-> foyth swap for Tomiyasu, Sanchez to bring down bill on Atalanta CB, Lamela to bring down bill on Winger from Sevilla, Keeper on loan

Not a bad approach so far (if we close them)

Should keep Rodon, I think he has a lot of potential.

2 of the 3 would IMO be a mega improvement just for the fresh legs

Good call.... I forgot about us already having brought in funds from Foyth!

We have been linked with so many centre backs that I can't help but think (hope!) we're after two new ones.

Was thinking earlier about some of the names we have been linked with and anticipating what a squad might look like.... (names of players who could be sold in brackets, buys in bold) and anticipated monies in (+) or out (-) to make those trades:

Lloris, Golina, Hart (-£2m loan fee)
Tomiyasu, Doherty/Aurier, Tanganga (Foyth, Doherty/Aurier) (+5m)
Romero, Alderweireld (Sanchez, CCV) (-£5m)
Lacroix, Dier/Rodon (Dier/Rodon) (-£10m)
Regulion, Sessegnon (Davies) (+£12m)
Hojbjerg, Skipp (Sissoko) (+5m)
Lo Celso, Ndombele (Winks) (+£25m)
Moura, Bergwijn (£0)
Aouar, Dele (-£20m)
Son, Gil (Lamela) (-£20m)
Kane, Ings (-£25m)

That would be some excellent work on the team and squad without spending a fortune, we'd be keeping our crown jewels, bringing in young players but still staying within the overseas player rule.

I think that squad is still probably lacking a great central midfield player and a right midfield/wing option but those positions could be addressed next summer.

I would be delighted with that overhaul came off - how are we looking for HG though? - it just feels like a lot of deals to get done in one window. I guess a lot of legwork has been done on Tomiyasu, Gollini, Romero and Gil by all accounts, so maybe not that much more to do except pull the trigger.

We shall see!

1. Hart (association trained for PL and UEFA competition)
2. Tanganga (association trained for PL and UEFA competition, Home grown)
3. Sessegnon (association trained for PL and UEFA competition)
4. Skipp (association trained for PL and UEFA competition, Home grown)
5. Dele ((association trained for PL and UEFA competition)
6. Kane ((association trained for PL and UEFA competition, Home grown)
7. Ings ((association trained for PL and UEFA competition)
8. Doherty (if not sold) (association trained for PL)
9. Rodon (if not sold) (association trained for PL)

So that's 7 to 9 (depending on sales) association trained players for the PL before having to use any of the youth players.
7 association trained players for UEFA competition
3 home grown players for UEFA competition.
We'd simply have to add one more home grown player (Scarlett or Parrot or White or whoever).

Considering home grown rules though I really do think we missed out on Olise from Reading.... £8m for him was a real bargain, I expect Palace will sell him for 5 to 10 times that in 3 years' time.

Could you add Scarlett as another HG? I’m not sure he fits the criteria, but it certainly feels he’ll be about the squad.

First report seems to have emerged, from one of the dodgier little Italian football sites, that a 50m Euro deal has been agreed now between the clubs. Which, if true, is much less than a Harry Maguire or a Ben White.
