If I were to buy a Nexus 7, would any apps I've bought for my Android phone be available to me on it from the Google Play store? Or are they linked to the device and I'd need to buy them again?
Nice, might just have to buy one then, my expansive Stick Tennis game is killing my thumbs on my HTC.
I think that's pretty good justification for 160 odd quid.
It's definitely clunkier to work your way around and torrent clients etc. aren't as functional. Personally, I still want a laptop for most of what you said above, but you could make do if you wanted to.I am thinking of buying a new macbook as mine is about five years old however after doing my own little cost benefit analysis I figured that to spend £1500 on a laptop that all im gonna do with is watch porn, chat on here and download shows - it aint fudgein worth it. I have a work laptop if I need to type up anything or to send emails etc so I dont really need a laptop per se.
SO
Is a tablet/notebook a good substitute? I am wanting to get the 10.1 Samsung as I think it looks ace but can you do the stuff you normally do on a laptop like download shows, music, surf the net etc? I mean they even have keyboards now for that brick.

Atorrent isn't bad and the beta of utorrent is out, though I've not tried that yet as I've not had any problems with atorrent.
I dont see why anyone would buy an android tablet over one of the windows 8 tablets other than price.
Windows 8 has been sledged in the testing reports that I've seen. I'm hugely dissapointed that Lenovo never released its U1 Hybrid. It was going to use Windows when docked and then switch to Android when you pulled out the tablet. It's pretty much an obsolete idea now, but at the time it would have been the conkers.
I've got w8 installed on a touchscreen machine at work. I can see it being fantastic on tablets but on desktops it sucks, even with the touchscreen.
I just dont understand their insistence that 'metro' or whatever you call it is best for everything to the point they've ruined the classic desktop. The option to switch properly between the classic desktop and the new ui would have been perfect. Instead its going to be great for tablets but ruin the desktop experience.

What about laptops? I assume its in the suck category.
From what you say they are focusing on the tablet experience and as its new it will be a prototype and we can't expect a good version until Windows 9. Microsoft tend to alternate so Windows 8 is scheduled to be a flop. I thought XP was good and everything I read about Vista was so bad I skipped that one (the only time since Windows 3.1). But I've been happy with Windows 7.
If you've got money to burn, by all means buy an iPad or a Windows 8 tablet
But if you want something for personal use, I don't see why anyone would consider anything BUT an Android device
The operating system is simply stunning now.
As a media device, you cannot beat it. Period. (The period makes it a fact)
I am very close to Microsoft, as some know. Personally I wouldn't spend a penny of my own money on a Windows 8 tablet.
For watching films, playing games, surfing the interweb, and for apps........Windows 8 tablets are spanked to pieces by Android.
Windows 8 tablets will be a good laptop replacement, eventually.
Android is best for personal usage, by a mile
