The Blue & Yellow ITK Bonanza Thread

I could see another CM if we get rid of Sig, Livermore, Hudd, Parker, Carroll (loan)

That leaves Dembele, Paulinho, Sandro, Holtby and new CM fighting it out for 3 positions. All it takes is for 1 or 2 injuries and we are left short.

Even if we keep Sig (Which i hope) he will be used as back up for the wider positions IMO.

I dont see that we would go into next season with just 5 CMs if we're planning to play 4-3-3. 2 players per position plus kids I think is what you want so I think we would go with Dembele, Paulinho, Sandro, Holtby, new CM, SIggy and Carroll. Sell Parker, Thudd, Livermore

With the 25 man squad rule you are looking at 2 senior pros per position and some kids. So by my count we are looking at 6-7 midfielders to fill three spots, assuming a 4-3-3.

I can see Parker being sold (to QPR is the rumours are true) and Livermore loaned. Not too sure about Hudd yet as he seemed to have jumped ahead of the other 2 in the pecking order near the end of the season. I'd like to see Carroll go out on loan for 6 months to a premiership team just to get him some regular playing time. Dembele, Sandro, Pauly, Holby, Siggy, Hudd could be the roster until the next window, but there's room for another player in there even if Hudd stays. If Hudd leaves then I can definitely see us in for someone else. Pjanic would be an excellent acquisition either way.

Very similar thoughts to my own :)

Can't see us spending 15-20m on another CM though.

Considering that we've just purchased Paulinho for £17m and we bought Dembele last summer for £15m. Much more likely that we'd either look for a bargain or use the kids as the 6th choice.

Agree. I really like Pjanic, but the only way we'll go for him is if we decide to cash in on either Siggy or Dembele, in addition to shedding Parker, Hudd and Livermore.

Sandro, Dembele, Paulinho, Holtby, Siggy and Carroll is as strong a group of CMs as there is in the league.

I agree. If we really are trying for Villa plus another forward plus Paulinho then I think we'll be more or less spent out as thats say £40m+ going out and I cant see us getting much more than say £12m - £13m for Parker (£2m?), THudd (£5m?) and Defoe (£5m - £6m?)

I cant see us having a net spend of more than that this summer given the stadium costs

Yeah - I think three senior players (Paulinho, Villa + CF) will be our lot. Hudd, Defoe, Livermore and Parker are our main disposible assets, and they won't bring in all that much.

We won't have spent £40 million, we will have committed ourselves to paying that over the next few years. If we have a big spending window now it just means less money to play with in the next few windows. Squad wise we'll be pretty much sorted, with only minor adjustments needed, which just means no need to spend big next summer and hopefully some of our youngster will come along and either be part of our squad or sold on for a profit.

hertyids reply to potls soldado/villa post

From what I heard and posted earlier in the week, POTL bang on the money (unsurpisingly!!!!).
Fingers crossed on DV.

looklikemodric:

close with the croatians very close.

Not so much the latter [Pjanic] now...he very nearly joined in january but it looks incredibly unlikely now sadly.

I agree that it seems unlikely that we will spend £15m or thereabouts on another central midfielder, if we get good bids for all the players we're willing to listen to offers for we might look to one more though.

I think you underestimate the fees though. Especially for Defoe. Look at Danny Graham as an example, yes he's a couple of years younger and it was the January transfer window, but his record doesn't stand up to Defoe's in any way shape or form yet Sunderland paid £5m for him.

I think we'll get a little bit more for Parker too, Thudd I more or less agree with, but only because of his injury problems.

plus we are probably banking on the fact that Bale will go in 1-2 years time, and that will be a lump sum of 80-100 million coming into the club, most likely in installments, but still its future income that we can now gamble against

plus if Halilovic becomes anything like the player most think he will be, we will already have a replacement for Bale. Not similar players, but in terms of impact he could be the one to count on

Exactly. Its all about projecting ahead and being able to make repayments (sort of). It could be that any significant repayments on current playing staff are coming to an end and Levy sees this as the time to invest heavily again. We've pushed the boat out before for Redknapp which was then followed by minimal net spend for a number of windows, so just maybe we are about to commit big again. The TV money covers a fair portion of this anyway so it could be just front loading the spend in this window and that's it for the next few windows.

I think the stadium build will be funded by sponsorship and is in a holding pattern for now. Plus there's always the Bale money :-"

exactly, if it all goes t!ts up, we can always count on a bale out

midfield. would be our "moutinho" buy. It'd be more like where would Dembele fit in to the team.

although a midfield option of Dembele, Pjanic, Paulinho, Sandro, Holtby, Sigurdsson, Parker is pretty damn unbelievable.

maybe AVB is looking at something like this

.................Sandro......Dembele

........................Paulinho
............Pjanic...................Bale
..........................Villa

Paulinho, Bale and Villa going for the kill, Pjanic providing the ammunition

Paulinho, Bale and Pjanic would have the freedom to interchange positions.....looks interesting

Not sure Pjanic would be able to play there in my view.

If anything if he was to select a formation out of those selected players he'd play Dembele up where you've put Pjanic. he played there a few times last season (more right mid) when Lennon was out. It's just we played Parker/Livermore central mdifield and not Sandro/Paulinho

possibly, but Pjanic is still young and who knows what position he will eventually settle in. Anyway, like i said there could be freedom in movement when we are in possession and Pjanic will be our Mata/Silva/Cazorla/Coutinho type, so he could find himself anywhere in the attacking 3rd when in possession, and when not, he will have a position to fall back in to keep the team shape intact

Pjanic is more creative than Dembele imo
