The Annual Tottenham Hotspur Striker Search: January 2015 Edition

If Ings is considered a decent prospect then that would suit me until the summer, when we'd likely be looking to sell Soldado (unless he defies his form in our colors and has a fantastic second half of the season) and there is more movement in the transfer market/better deals to be had

Depends, really. He`s cheap, fast, hard-working, and English (important given my personal longing for a more home-grown Spurs side). But if we go for him instead of a genuine prospect (like Dybala) or a finished product (Bony/Lacazette/Destro), then we're basically settling for a forward line of Kane, Ings and Soldado (given the likelihood that Ade will leave/be released and that Soldado will struggle to find takers). Is that a forward line that inspires confidence? Kane, sure: but Ings and Soldado as the other options? Bear in mind that I don't think Rodriguez (even if we do by some miracle manage to land him) is going to be played as a striker: for me, he's a faster, more mobile Chadli cutting in off the wing as a second striker.

I'm with you on this, I'd prefer a top young striker who could go on to really make a name for themselves like Dybala. Home grown is a preference too but if the option is Ings and no other then I'd be disappointed.

How cheap will Danny Ings actually be?

Burnley are in with a good shout to stay up this season, Ings is at least from what I've heard their key man to make that happen. The financial reward of staying up would be massive. Seems like a decent gamble to take to just keep him around for half a season even if it does mean losing him on a free come the summer.

Agree. They'll let him leave for free in the summer rather than take £10m for him in January

Seydou Doumbia is on the list of forwards Tottenham are considering for the January transfer window.

Standard Sport understands that the CSKA Moscow player is on Spurs’ radar as they seek to improve their firepower next month.

Doumbia’s current salary is about £54,000 a week, which is well within Spurs’ price range. The buy-out clause is set at close to £25million, though Spurs would try to negotiate a price well below that.

The 26-year-old has an impressive goalscoring record since moving to Russia in 2010 and CSKA are willing to consider offers as they are no longer involved in European competition.

His retirement from international football last summer, after he was not named in the Ivory Coast’s World Cup squad, is also a factor in his favour, as it means Doumbia is highly unlikely to be involved in the Africa Cup of Nations early next year.

Doumbia is out of contract in the summer of 2016 and is currently discussing a new deal. It remains to be seen whether Doumbia and his representatives are trying to generate interest to improve their bargaining position.

Meanwhile, Monaco are thought to be weighing up a move for their former forward Emmanuel Adebayor, who has just returned to Spurs after spending a week in Ghana for personal reasons.

I remember us being linked with Doumbia a few years ago.

Has looked a good player whenever I have seen him.... Must confess that I thought he was older than 26 however.

Everyone must remember the indisputable picture! ;)

According to Portuguese reports we are desperate to land Jackson Martinez and might offload both Soldado and Adebayor to fund it.

Been quite a few Jackson Martinez reports in the tabloid media. As per usual for a transfer window really.

Struggle to see it happening. First we have to raise the money by getting good offers for the players we want to sell, then Levy has to sanction another 'transfer record or close to it' signing of a 28 year old striker...

Gambling on Mitchell and Baldini identifying "the next Jackson Martinez" seems much more likely to me.

i think we'll see a moneyball buy as a test for mitchell, someone in from the wild that we've not heard about.

He was appalling at the world cup. Colombia pretty much imploded in the final third every time he came off the bench.

It was a bit like what happened to Defoe by the end, where all the players around him were clearly operating at a higher level intellectually - Martinez was on a different frequency to his teammates, not a wavelength.

I get what you're trying to say , but
wavelength and frequency are just two different ways of measuring the same thing.

Have not agreed with much football opinions of yours of late but that pretty much sums up how I feel about Martinez as well, really do not rate him.

Speaking of Mitchell, Southampton fans don't have much time for him, and seem genuinely disappointed in the abhorrent quality of some of the players he brought in during his time there, Mane and Long being two examples. Warrants some concern on our side about his abilities, I feel.

Mane has had a rough start but I still think he'll pick up. Long was a suprise one for me, but he's still got them goals this season.
