The Annual Tottenham Hotspur Striker Search: January 2015 Edition

I hope both Baldini and Poch are at least considering a move for Paulo Dybala. Very quick, astonishingly good dribbler, great eye for a pass, uncommonly intelligent and perceptive on the pitch, hard worker in the final third, still only twenty one, has been tagged as the 'new Aguero' for a while now but is finally stepping it up. Serie A, so there is a risk of him being Lamela Mk2 (especially considering his nationality), but a risk worth taking imo: in the absence of any genuinely world-class forward, he's the sort of player we should be blasting in for, all guns blazing.
How does he compare to Icardi do you think?
I also saw a story that Destro was to be offered around.
Again - both would be coming from Italy, which isn't the best league in terms of similarities to the Premiership. I haven't really seen much of either of them (or Dybala either). Do any of you on here who have think they could easily adapt?

Icardi - finisher, better upper body strength (based on what I saw of him under Mazzarri). Less willing to put in the yards, and less of a creator than Dybala.
Destro - see above: I'd rate him as an intelligent poacher with a good leap and upper-body strength, but not a creator or a dribbler like Dybala. Harder worker than Icardi, though.

I agree, they're from Serie A and it is a risk to get players from that league: this is where mental strength/ willingness to succeed and work play a huge role. Dybala's dad passed away when he was young (15, I think) and it spurred his decision to move permanently overseas to fulfill his dream of becoming a professional footballer. At that age, that's a lot to deal with and a hard choice to make, and it augurs well for his mental strength and determination. Icardi's never really been 'into' football, if I recall correctly: he views it as more of a job than something he actually likes to do. It could indicate professionalism, but it could just as easily indicate disinterest in putting in the hard yards: it depends. Destro's dad was a footballer, and he's had a largerly settled life following in his footsteps: drawing analogies from that background is hard, but he's a hard worker on the field and seemed genuinely committed to winning his place in the Roma side, which again augurs well in terms of his determination.

They're all risks, but their mental strength/ professionalism could see them succeed where Erik....well, I won't say failed, but where Erik struggled initially.

Top shout Dubai, this kid looks an immense prospect.

wow .. Torres for free ..

We could have two Soldado's, working hard, adding to the team, and just not scoring ..

Except for the hard working bit of course. Torres' lack of movement and ability to make runs is actually quite astonishing.

EXCLUSIVE: Tottenham eyeing France Under-21s ace Paul-Georges Ntep

TOTTENHAM are watching Rennes forward Paul-Georges Ntep.

The France Under-21s ace, 22, was a target for Arsenal and QPR last January but they failed to agree terms with his then-club Auxerre.

He opted to stay in France and moved to Rennes, where he has gone on to score six goals in 17 games this season.

Ntep can play as a winger and a striker and his pace has caught the eye of several scouts. Spurs are looking to sign two strikers in January and Ntep would cost around £8million.

They are also checking out Croatia defender Sime Vrsaljko, 22, who plays for Serie A side Sassuolo.

Vrsaljko, who can play in midfield, is also interesting Juventus.

Tottenham weigh up Andrej Kramaric move as top scout checks on Croatian striker

New Spurs talent-spotter Paul Mitchell was in Seville on Thursday night to watch the Rijeka man in action, while Eran Zahavi is also wanted at White Hart Lane

New Tottenham talent-spotter Paul Mitchell undertook his first job on Thursday night, watching Rijeka striker Andrej Kramaric in Seville.

But the Croatian hitman failed to find the net as Sevilla won 1-0 and dumped Rijeka out of the Europa League.

Kramaric, 23, has already been targeted by Premier League leaders Chelsea and strugglers Leicester, who had a £7.9million bid for him rejected.

Spurs are also watching £1.6million Israel striker Eran Zahavi.

The Maccabi Tel Aviv star, 27, who hit 23 goals last term, is also wanted by Burnley, Swansea and West Brom.

Zahavi, capped 23 times, has scored 50 goals in 61 games for his club.

Almost up to a whole squad of strikers now that the papers claim we're about to sign or looking closely at.

Let's just hope it's not a case of the press seeing how shocking we are up front and putting 2 and 2 together.... and that the club really are looking to bring a couple in (and I really do think we need 2..... One proven and one potential future star)

I would be very wary against signing anyone from Italy that league has gone downhill so fast, it is not like years ago when Bergkamp or Zola were good there and then good here. Can not remember the last good striker from there to do it over here.

Jovetic has looked ok (injury problems aside)

Everyone is talking about Kramaric, but in the Europa League this season Alan Carvalho from Salzburg is top scorer. The guy has beastly stats for this calendar year.

Danny Inngs is out of contract in the summer, think we could get him cheep, young English lad worth a punt.

Ings is a decent prospect, he's got a good turn of pace and is strong on the ball as well as a decent finisher. I probably still rate Berahino higher than him and would prefer it if we got him.

Ings, no brainer

Depends, really. He`s cheap, fast, hard-working, and English (important given my personal longing for a more home-grown Spurs side). But if we go for him instead of a genuine prospect (like Dybala) or a finished product (Bony/Lacazette/Destro), then we're basically settling for a forward line of Kane, Ings and Soldado (given the likelihood that Ade will leave/be released and that Soldado will struggle to find takers). Is that a forward line that inspires confidence? Kane, sure: but Ings and Soldado as the other options? Bear in mind that I don't think Rodriguez (even if we do by some miracle manage to land him) is going to be played as a striker: for me, he's a faster, more mobile Chadli cutting in off the wing as a second striker.
