The all new Striker thread..

No-one in here has mentionned Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in here yet?? Papers reckon we are lining up a bid to rival Arsenal (who apparently have had a substantial bid turned down). Looks like a non-starter to me but worth sticking it in here.

"Tottenham tried to sign me in June 2012," Aubameyang told reporters. "But in the end everything became a bit weird. I didn't really like the way things were done."

"If Spurs ever came back in for me, I'd say no."

It's reassuring we are being linked to quick forwards like Berahino, Werner, Njie and Ntep, and not so much big lumps (very tenuous link to Llorente aside)

Whats all this Werner talk? I've seen loads of it about and its left me stunned to be honest. I would bet my house that anyone championing the signing of Werner has not seen him play in at least two years. He's sooooooooo average, no awareness, no calmness on the ball, head down blind alley - like Andros Townsend on a bad day.

I saw Stuttgart live twice last year. Once he was an unsused sub, once he was hauled off after a totally abject performance.

Stuttgart fans are debating whether he'll make it a as a Bundesliga player! Here's just a couple of opinions from a random page in a Timo Werner thread on a Stuttgart forum:

----- We missed the chance to sell him for big money

I can't be bothered to translate - use google you lazy gits ;)

So, a relegation candidate in the BL are debating whether to give up hope of him becoming an above average BL player? This would make no sense as a signing. None whatsoever. He doesn't get in Stuttgarts team, why the hell would he get anywhere near ours. He has to prove himself far, far more than he has. Why are no German teams in for him? Because they see him on a regular basis and see he was absolute trash for a season. Martin Harnik is far better, and I doubt many people would want him.

I honestly think the people saying Werner, Werner, Werner have never seen him play. Just my two pence worth though. He'll probably be the next Messi - its undeniable though that he has done nowhere near enough to be considered as a viable transfer target. I don't believe we are really in for him anyway.

Thanks for posting. Do you feel the Werner 'chase' is a smokescreen to cover our searches elsewhere?

I'M hoping that may be the case. If for whatever reason we are in for Werner it won't be a complicated transfer. I think we'll bid about €8 million and Stuttgart will happily sell.

I think for a club like Stuttgart who need to re-inforce badly, 6 million quid for a fringe player on the way down would be good business.

Here's some reaction to news of our interest: (reported interest @ 14 million Europs)

Habe ich auch eben gelesen.
Puh..

14 ubelievable amount of money for a player who last year was miles away and didn't set a foot on the pitch.

However, the interest in Werner isn't getting much attention, as theres a few team sniffing round some of their first team players, which is generating much more discussion.

Thanks for the info.

I read that the season before last he scored or assisted one in two - that seems pretty promising for a kid. Was that season just a fluke? How did he play that season?

What all flimflam anyway, did not he say When He first joined Dortmund, that he would never sign for Spurs after the way he was treated when we tried to sign him earlier on?

Oh please not Lambert!

So Mario Gomez looks set to sign for Besiktas and I'm wondering why we couldn't have made a bid for him. Too static? Would want first team football? Way I see it, he would have been a great sub for Kane for cups and EL and coming on late in league games.

I think that we could do a lot worse for a third choice striker if the price is right.

So, 9 days to the start of the new season and we have

Kane
Adebayor who has had a medical at Villa

Soldado who is not even training with the first team

Coulthirst who scored 6 goals in 33 matches in the football league last season

I presume Levy & Poch are going to unveil some master plan in the next few days

Campbell and Pav coming back to the lane
