The all new Striker thread..

Cisse wouldn't be a bad shout as backup. His record would have been better but he's been injured and in and out of the side.

And that is the problem he always is, over the last 7 seasons he has only played 161 lge games ( av 23 games a season) and he is now 30 so I do not see him getting any fitter.

Michu.....£4m?

I know he went off to Napoli but did his form fall off a cliff? or has he had injury problems?

Thinking to how he was at Swansea he'd be perfect as an option, similar to Kane in being able to score but also lay teamates in. 29 years old, not too bad

23 games as a back up would be fine.
But you are right, he is injured too often - and thus cannot be a back up. No use in having a back up that isn't available

Both - in fact he is just not very good, apart from one good season at Swansea.

He's had issues with his ankle over the year but the word in Swansea is that Monk not to fussed about him,i think when Swansea had the spanish contingent of players Monk didn't see eye to eye with any of them.

Also on the personal side Michu split up with his girlfriend which messed him up as well. After seeing her once with him i can see why grrrr. I would have kept him, there is some quality with him depends on how much he wants now.

It is sobering to think that Michu was awesome one year and then touted around like a broken pram for a fiver... No wonder Levy doesn't want to spend more than £15m and stick to sub 26 yr olds I.e. Resale value.

I've not seen Michu at Napoli but for Swansea I thought he was fantastic.

His season before that was very good too.

I do think that those two were outliers though. Nothing he's done before or after suggests he's likely to repeat it

As a Swansea supporter or girlfriend?

Saudi Sportswashing Machine step up £9m Bas Dost bid as West Ham move for Charlie Austin

Saudi Sportswashing Machine will switch their focus to Bas Dost after West Ham moved into pole position to sign Charlie Austin.

Austin has long been the Magpies’ No 1 target this summer as they look to increase their firepower.

But West Ham are also interested in the QPR frontman and are now favourites to tie up a deal worth up to £15million.

Wolfsburg coach Dieter Hecking has ruled out selling Bas Dost, adding that reported suitors Saudi Sportswashing Machine offer no appeal.

The Netherlands international scored 20 goals in all competitions last season as Wolfsburg clinched the DFB-Pokal and finished second behind champions Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga.

Such form has reportedly attracted the likes of Saudi Sportswashing Machine, prompting Hecking to underline the 26-year-old's importance before questioning why a move to St. James' Park would ever be a realistic option.

"We do not want to sell," Hecking told the Wolfsburger Allgemeine.

"Why would Bas go there? He can play Champions League football with us. He won't be able to do that at Saudi Sportswashing Machine this season or probably the season after or the season after that.

"Bas has progressed with us in these nine months in the right direction. He has shown in particular that he can maintain his goal rate if he works more for the team.

"This is a very special quality. When he stays with us, he will improve his goal ratio even more, I'm pretty sure."

Anyone keeping tabs on Jurgen Locadia? Dutch striker, plays for PSV - just 21, quick, with quicker feet, and possessed of an imposing 6'3" frame to boot. He could be that combination of pace, strength and skill which would offer a perfect alternative to both Kane (who possesses the strength and skill, but not the pace) and Soldado (skill, but no strength or pace). He can also play out wide, and to top it all off he's spoken about how unhappy he is at being overlooked in favor of Luuk De Jong at PSV, and about how he might have to move if that scenario continues.

The potential problems with this signing are that a) he specifically stated that he disliked the idea of playing on the wing, even though he can definitely do so with ease, and b) it is unlikely that he'd leave PSV's bench to come to ours as a rotation option with Kane and/or either one of the wingers. Still, seems like he could definitely be worth a punt if he's amenable to such a move.

Lol, the guy can't get in the team ahead of Luuk de Jong. The same Luuk de Jong who was so dreadful for Saudi Sportswashing Machine. Move on.

sounds like he has a bit of an attitude. Maybe the club are teaching him a lesson.

de jong is talented, just feel he needed longer to adapt.

Bas dost is another also took a while to adapt after an outstanding time in Eredivisie, but last season he flourished and became one of the worlds deadliest strikers again.

......yes, he was benched for de Jong (who is a talented young striker himself, spell on Tyneside aside). However, I'd suggest that isn't down to purely merit-based decision making.

What about his spell in Germany? The guy failed everywhere outside of the Netherlands.

Guys, I am actually Dutch, I've seen him play many times. Locadia is nowhere near good enough for us (nor is de Jong btw). Nowhere near. He isn't even good enough for PSV at the moment. Those stats are somewhat flawed as well due to many of those appearances being as a substitute, which usually helps a striker since by the time he comes on the opposing defenders are tired, gaps are opening and the pressure on defences is growing.

i dont know much about him, but he is still only 21. You seem very quick to write him off. If anyone watched Harry Kane at Leyton Orient or Norwich they too would have said he had absolutely no chance of making it at the highest level. Strange things can happen.
