Tanguy Ndombele

Do you still think this?

Obviously, you've trawled through to find that from some time ago, a time when it looked like he wasn't training or part of our plans. Last season Grealish and Fernandes probably would have saved Poch his job because they would hit the ground running. Should you trawl back again, you could also find plenty of posts from me saying we should NOT sell Ndombele, that he would come good in his second season.

I was reading back through the thread to see how perceptions of him have changed. I was just interested in whether your view had changed.

To be fair, despite scoring on his debut and having an odd moment of brilliance you're right that Bruno and Grealish would've settled in quicker. Always wonder if him and GLC had stormed it from the start would Poch still be here? They weren't the right characters to shift the funk hanging around from the final..

What I like about Tanguy over those two is that to me he can play in the hole (insert mick mcarthy gif here) but also as part of a midfield trio in a 5 - 3 - 3 for example and look completely at home. As he's moving up the gears in fitness the ability to keep engaged defensively will be less of an issue for him, like for a few others this is great timing for the int. break so he can have a good spell training with Jose.

I actually can't remember but I reckon I'll have probably been critical of his application and maybe general fitness on here so I do wanna hold my hands up, but just in general I'm looking forward to seeing more of him, great to keep this momentum going. There are still little lapses but no player is truly without them, as we were talking about him on here I personally thought Dembele got away with murder occasionally when it came to defensive positioning and getting caught on the ball in the worst place but shouldn't wade in to that on here I guess. Back to our guy though, could definitely become one of my favourite players to watch, combo of audacity skill balance is so smooth to watch when it's working.

In terms of saving Poch's job, Lo Celso being fit at the beginning of last season might've been enough.

What's interesting about Ndombele versus the other two is where they go from here and who ends up the best.

It’s not fair to compare players who are already in the league or players who have made several transfers before coming here with a player who hasn’t ever played abroad and wouldn’t be coming here with family and stability

now he is seeing some stability on the pitch he is working hard to lift the areas he needed to do

Grealish is class and so is Fernandes but there also older and in the case of Grealish he is still a big fish in a small pond.

This is all retrospective, I still think it was frustrating last season and even pre-season. Now things are much rosier.

We'll never know of course, but I don't think so on Lo Celso. There were too many issues.

On Ndombele. It's all guessing and speculation of course. Based on potential, in my opinion, Ndombele all day every day. Right now looking quite likely that a lot of that potential will come out. He will be a superstar if that happens. One of the best in the world in his position.

(Yes I sometimes get carried away).

(honestly, I don't think his performances on the pitch has changed all that much - I thought he was good pretty much every time he was given the chance last season too, but getting the vote of confidence from the manager is obviously a big deal)

On the ball not much has changed, though more impact due to increased fitness and stamina imo.

Off the ball there's a big difference. Again, fitness and stamina, but also attitude imo.

I dont think people realise how difficult it is for some people to move to Britain from europe. The "culture" will be totally different, everyday things are different, virtually nobody will speak your language and you will probably miss your close circle of friends. I'm sure the club do everything they can to help but there will stil, be those moments where you cant get your favourite food, dont understand the parking restrictions or miss your mum.

Indeed, and that is why its crazy when fans judge players who join from abroad on there first season,

I had no great he would adapt, he's too good player not to to. We just had to get him up showed and fitness of course but talent was always evident
