Goran Pandev and Lazio....

"In the summer of 2009, a dispute between Pandev and Lazio president Claudio Lotito erupted, resulting in a legal battle between Pandev and his club. The ruling was announced on 23 December 2009.[6][7][8]
The dispute started with Pandev indicating his desire to leave Lazio during the summer of 2009. Club president Lotito, apparently unhappy with Pandev's decision, froze him out of the squad. As a result, Pandev spent the remaining four months training on his own, without making a single appearance for his club. During this period, various clubs had indicated their interest in buying Pandev, most notably Zenit St. Petersburg, who made an offer of 13 million euros for the player. Lazio president Lotito rejected the offer, demanding 15 million euros instead. The deal eventually fell through after both parties failed to come to an agreement on price.[9]
On 26 September, Pandev officially filed for a termination of his contract with Lazio, having been frozen out of the squad and labelled a 'rebel' by the club. Pandev argued that by freezing him out of the squad, Lazio had violated the terms of their contract with him. On 23 December 2009, Lega Calcio ruled in Pandev's favor, ordering Lazio to release Pandev from his contract and pay him 170,000 euros for emotional distress. Lotito indicated his desire to appeal the decision. ""

I don't think it'll get to this with us though, but the whole freezing players out is a dangerous path.
And it also means that players get their way in the end. Wether or not it is worth being without proper training for several months and probably much, much more media attention in Modric's case branding him as a 'rebel' remains to be seen.

You just stated categorically "Moutinho will be too expensive, we really need to accept this and move onto more affordable targets" as though it is fact. Is it a fact or is it now a hunch?

In business terms the simple equation Modric - Moutinho = Profit should illustrate that while its a lot of money it doesnt mean its not the sort of decision a 'business man' would make.

I do appreciate it looks as though Moutinho will be very expensive. And his reported price is somewhere above where I would consider his 'true' value to be. That said, I believe a players REAL value is whatever the buying club are willing to pay to get his services. It represents what he is worth to them.

What is his worth to us?

Personally I think he is a fabulous player. I do believe he is one of few able to replace Modric in our side without us losing quality in the process - no mean feat. I also believe his signing could be the single biggest chance AVB has of a successfull career with us. A midfielder (key position), of high class, who already knows EXACTLY how to play the AVB way? Given that we are to transition into a new playing style thats possibly priceless right now.

Its a very good chance with Moutinho we can hit the ground running, that AVB can establish his authority/position as THFC Manager and avoid he pitfalls of a shaky start.

Also, as a club our ambitions are to aim high - to target regular CL football. We have sacked an established and successful manager and brought in a new one whom we believe will improve us further. We have to back this man, at the very least initially, and give him the tools he requires to do his job.

everything you say makes perfect sense to me and i hope Levy feels the same

Met Pienaar today, he said:

he's not going to Everton as they haven't got any money, he's now very happy at Spurs with the new management, all the players love the professional and structured training and there's a buzz around the place, Modric defn wants out, but AVB is getting someone in so don't worry.

(We know this but, horses mouth you know; just sayin')

very nice and friendly chap!

Easily avoided by playing him in the Carling Cup and Europa league, that way he is not being "frozen out".

Can't see it happening anyway, if Reaql madrid want him that badly they'll stump up the cash if not he'll stay at Spurs.

Its only my opinion mate, you are welcome to argue the case. Seemed you held a very different view earlier?

the only different view i hold is that imo Levy doesnt think like a fan does. Thats all. And lets say that is the case, then it would be better if the club began pursuing alternative targets, and i suggested a couple of players in Dembele and Gourcuff (Benat is another)

If i were chairman in this situation, i would do the Modric out and Moutinho in deal for the exact reasons you gave above.

My daily Lewandowski update.
.........................................

According to reports Manchester United target Robert Lewandowski is interesting Tottenham Hotspur.

The London Evening Standard claims Spurs boss Andre Villas-Boas is eyeing the Borussia Dortmund striker.

It is understood that Villas-Boas would like to bring in two forwards in this transfer window.

Lewandowski is thought to have been the first choice but he may be too costly for the White Hart Lane club.

Thinking about your point on business - in the accounts Modrics value will be a lot lower than the £16m we paid for him.

If we were to depreciate his deal over 5 years (a guess at his contract) he would currently have a book value of something like £3.2m. So the €40m euros would look very tempting!

Of course if we agreed a deal like that (unless Emirates Marketing Project are buying) its highly unlikely you will just get a cheque for €40m though, more chance it will be paid in increments/installments.

Which of course would equally no doubt apply to us purchasing a replacement (no matter who or how much)

It all gets a bit confusing doesnt it!? Ive no idea if the concepts of amortisation and installments etc make big purchases more or less likely LOL

WOW! That article really tells me absolutely NOTHING.

All I know RE a fans perception is that we rarely know the whole story (or likely even half)

All I wrote above is simply a fans idea of what might be the case.

Ive seen the videos you posted of Benat, I like the look of him. Dembele is an interesting player, I think could be a good buy. Gourcoff I dont believe Ive seen play.

My issue with Dembele is really Im not sure what his best position is, he seems to be something of an evolving player. That said he is clearly very versatile so would be a welcome addition to the squad regardless of Moutnho/Gourcoff/etc coming in.

If this is all true then it's great to read.

what do you want??? its a slow news day!!!:)

anyway, its good our name is mentioned and not Emirates Marketing Project, Chelsea, Liverpool....its SOMETHING

Ive been extremely disappointed with Pienaar since we brought him in. I thought he would be so much better than he was.

Since AVB came onboard I did immediately think though that Pienaar could be just the sort of player he would like.

Will be interesting to see how he goes now...

exactly, and as a fan i agree

He'd still have a case for constructive dismissal

I just struggle to believe the level of journalism sometimes.

tbf that article is a simple round up....but a Portuguese journo did tweet that Lewandowski was AVB's number one striker target. Imo there is something there and time will tell guess
