Which player would you like to see take over from Luka Modric?

Livermore was good last season and i don't understand the negativity he seems to generate, he is a local lad at the end of the day who we should be getting behind as supporters, not falling over selves to write off. he is more than good enough as a back up player for us and i have no qualms with having him in the side in the times that he is called upon when the likes of Modric or whoever are missing

This. Local lad who understands the club, it's traditions and happens to be a bit decent. Let's all knock him though yeah??

Good post. This entirely. Livermore's Tottenham through and through. We can't throw him away and then bemoan the lack of loyalty from players with no emotional attachment to the club like Modric. I'd cut him more slack than I would someone we bought from another club, simply because I can rest assured that he's trying his level best, whatever the circumstances, every time he's on the field, simply because he's one of us.

Someone said above about buying Pienaar etc that when a player like that becomes available you have to buy him at that price. Why? My whole point about the previous regime was this scattergun approach. Yeah he's a good player well have him at that price. Pienaars wages were horrific his fee may have been low but he chose us over Chelsea and no it wasn't GHod that told him to. It was a £30m+ commitment to sign him! He wasn't cheap and he was hardly bloody played! We also resigned chimbonda for absolutely no reason whatsoever as far as I could see among other weird ones ( did pletikosa even play for us?) we ended up with too many players being paid a v good wage for doing fudge all. We had no coherent long-term strategy - it was all 'if that player becomes available I'd be interested because he's a good lad and I like him' no 'well I've got a brick load of attacking midfielders save your money for a striker'. This do deals last minute thing only actually started after redknapp took over other than his first January window. Under previous managers/DOFs we did most of our business early (berbs, Modric, bent, postiga, zokora etc) and we spent money.

Redknapp was the one coming out with quotes that there's no value in the Market- I'm sure his relationship with levy didn't help but there seemed to be a definate shift in transfer timings, style and spending under redknapp specifically and I'm not so sure levy really likes leaving this last-minute. There's been murmurs that redknapp frustrated levy by changing his mind on targets a lot. Time will tell whether we go back to doing all our business early - this windows always gonna be a late scramble as AVB was brought in only about a month ago. This isn't a redknapp bash as such it's just pointing out that I think redknapp's greatest flaw at spurs was his transfer approach and his use of the (large ) squad he built. Ie he would sign a load of players, often on big wages and often in arras we were strong as 'cover' but then never really deviated from his normal starting XI leaving his players in the first XI knackered by season end and wasting thousands of £s on wages on people who weren't contributing.

Levy is a businessman and a shrewd operator - he wants to run spurs with a coherent long-term strategy - that's why he likes the DOF approach. That's why he and redknapp were always gonna fall out at some stage

Look, dont get me wrong, whilst I dont rate Livermore, while he's wearing a Spurs shirt I will get behind him. Just dont think he'll ever make it. Hopefully I'll be wrong as it'll show our youth set up can produce players but I dont think I am

The Livermore bashing is funny.
If you're looking at Jake Livermore to be Iniesta or Modric, then yes, he isn't good enough.
If you're looking at Jake Livermore to come in, do a very solid job, put a bit of bite in, be there to protect the Bales of this world, to play a simple 5 yard pass instead of carry it 30 yards and find himself out of options, and display some true home-grown pride, then he's a fine squad player.
I thought he was great last season.
I think people need to view him in his capacity. Alongside Jenas doesn't necessarily help HIM do HIS thing (JJ never helps anyone alongside him play to their best for a variety of reasons) but alongside a Modric, even a Carroll, he is an important TEAM player.

Yes indeed, on the day he gets called up to the full England squad, he gets a coating here...couldn't make it up LOL...

Anyone see the Defoe news? Sky Bet slashed odds of him moving to Stoke. I'm not too fussed about odds, but the tweet (yes, I know it's a tweet) said "club says a move is imminent." Not sure which club though.

I like Livermore and you make a good point - look at the top teams - they have their star players but for every Rooney, nani and giggs there's a fletcher or Evans who can come in , plug gaps and do an effective job without moaning about spending time on the bench

Adam - that's fine, Im not saying you have to rate him mate

what do you mean by 'make it' ? for me, he's had one bit part role of a season in the premier league for us, generally look calm/comfortable on the ball and has some impressive stats to boot - he looks good enough from what we have seen (imv) to be capable of forging a decent career in the prem - id even say he looked a lot more quick thinking on the ball than many other players i have seen over the years at the Lane, i know that's only a couple of attributes but it is an area of his game i was actually impressed with - I don't expect to see him taking our first team by storm but that's not to say he can't have a good career.

Livermore a local lad who gives his best gets slated
Redknapp a west ham nobody who's own words were 'I want Chelsea to win the champions league' people stick up for?

Baffling this website

By 'make it' I mean be a regular player in the PL. I mentioned earlier that I think he'll be league 1, 2 or conf ie be a regular starter for a team in those leagues

Cesars agent has said were in talks according to sky sports news.

Lukaku is a beast wish we'd have tried for him on loan.

Respect your opinion and in clips i saw from Belgium he did look like a beast but at Chelsea i thought he looked like a complete Donkey.
