Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis could spark a transfer war between Emirates Marketing Project and Chelsea after privately revealing that he would be willing to entertain offers for striker Edinson Cavani, according to Italian news organisation Sport Mediaset.
De Laurentiis, who has previously been steadfast in his refusal to countenance the sale of Cavani, has reportedly instructed an unnamed Italian agent to start negotiations with a Premier League club over a deal for the Uruguayan forward.
Cavani, who endured a disappointing campaign with his national side at the Olympic Games, has shone for Napoli since moving from Palermo in 2010, scoring 64 goals over the past two seasons and forming a frightening trio with Marek Hamsik and the recently-departed Ezequiel Lavezzi.
Sport Mediaset claims news of Cavani’s availability is most likely to spark the interest of Chelsea, with club owner Roman Abramovich keen to equip manager Roberto Di Matteo with an elite centre-forward to challenge Fernando Torres before the start of the Premier League season.
Meanwhile, City boss Roberto Mancini has all but given up in his pursuit of Arsenal captain Robin Van Persie and could turn to Cavani, who scored three goals against the Premier League winners in the Champions League last season.

Unfortunately I know who Grey Fox is talking about re player leaving #SCITK

I have to be quiet for a while now! Sorry guys!

Also: nothing has been decided, anything can happen. We might keep everyone! There's possibilities, conjecture, hypotheticals. Chill #THFC

Cavani would cost upwards of £40m so no point even thinking about him.

no, but for those that want to believe that Chelsea purposefully hijack our targets:rolleyes: it would be handy for us if they sign a top striker and leave the scraps for us to choose from

One of the 7 is Adebayor though so hardly disruptive.

Of the 14 players leaving, I have included Pavlyuchenko and Corluka who to all intents and purposes left in January. That leaves 12 players. King retired leaving 11. Of those 11 players Bentley and Jenas played exactly zero minutes of football for us last season, Dos Santos has featured for us 15 times in 4 years and Kranjcar has already left after struggling to get in the side. That takes us down to 7. 2 of the 7 I named are our back up goalkeepers who were very much peripheral figures. That leaves 5. Defoe and Gallas I've stated I would be happy if they stayed. But would they be happy? And I already can't remember who the other 3 are lol

Edit - the 3 I forgot were Pienaar - spent last season either injured or at Goodson so hardly disruptive, Adebayor which is self explanatory, and Modric (who I don't want to go but if he does go then he MUST be directly replaced)

You've just argued a very good case! fair play.

I still think we'd do very well to get 7 players for our incomings though and some of those outgoings would be dependant on if we could get in our own targets.

Bassong can probably be added to your list.

Sure, I completely agree - I mean we've hardly had suitors for the likes of Bentley and Jenas beating on our door have we!

But tie up the Adebayor deal, bring in Damiao (which is a deal they've been working on for 24 months!) and a winger like Sturridge who can also play up front and business is pretty much done. The crux of the team remains very much intact and a Goalkeeper isn't a necessity. Defoe will go in a heartbeat - there's a quality striker there and other managers know it but he'll never be more than our nearly man. Then it's all about Modric.

Lol COMPLETELY forgot about him. Did himself no favours in the friendlies so can either stay and not play or go. Hardly going to affect us as he spent the last six months putting in mildly indifferent performances for Wolves instead of us.
