It couldnt, unless there are episodes of hard drinking and violence in Gallas/Adebayors past I am unaware about.

Both players have been vocal dissenters in previous situations, difficult customers - but never displayed behaiour like that.

Hard drinking young English millionare! Shocker there, fella. I can assure you many, many players enjoy alcohol socially. There has been history of violence with Ledley - he was subsequently hailed as a legend for calling Gerrard names. I'll stop here - you can draw your own conlcusions.

Actually some might argue it's better to have a guy who knocks back a few every now and then, compared to an away- fan goading mercenary or a dressing room virus. See what I did there.

@BenSmithBBC: Official line on Andy Carroll's absence is that he has a slight groin strain which no one wants him to aggravate

He and Taylor (their CB) had a disagreement in training so Carroll punched him - put him into hospital with a broken jaw and took a long time to recover.

There is plenty of record of him drinking to all hours (even while at Liverpool)

He spent time living at Nolans house - cant remember why - and causing trouble there as well.

Basically he seems to be a stupid, classless oik who has destructive/self destructive tendencies with little regard for consequence.

While I think he is a decent player (and much under rater / over slagged off as a footballer for sure) who would do an effective job in our side I just cant bring myself to condone the baggage that would appear to come with him.

Yes - and all of that when he had hardly turned 20 years of age, rising Premier League and England star, and had more money than he could spend.

I'd like to think that (and call me an idealist, for all I car)

- people can change their ways, and mature mentally

- people can, and mostly likely will, change according to their environement and direct contact with its immediate inhabitants

HARD drinking wouldnt, in my book, include social drinking. Rather getting ridiculously tacoted a day or so before a game etc. Ledly falling out of a club during a break doesnt even compare. Neither does it compare to BREAKING A TEAM MATES JAW during training. And rather than 'young English millionaire" how about 'young English sportsman'?

Im not absolving the others of their misdemeanors at all. I had concerns about Gallas in particular when he joined, I was never impressed with Ledleys out of hours pursuits when they arose - but Carrolls efforts to date are in another league and far more destructive

12 million for Borini?? that might turn out to be a handy signing, he was always highly rated as a kid at Chelsea and might end up being a late developer like Rossi

I see Pazzini at Inter is available, a good finisher who is handy in the build up too.

I'm usually a bit suspicious about signing players from Serie A but I think that would be a smart move, good all-round player.

I would like to think that as well, but when it comes to SPurs spending huge sums (and possibly placing future success) on such a player I would also like to see evidence of suggested change before taking the leap

Arc, as much as I like you Carroll is not an option we should go for. He is utter dogbrick.

When you are out clubbing and you want your hole, you see whats what before you take the minger thats always left standing at the end of the night home. Carroll is that minger, lets just see whats the next couple of weeks brings. There's no point picking up dregs if we dont really have to.

If we are truly wanting to step up a level we have to aim high, yes it will be difficult and almost near on impossible to sign those A* level strikers but to not even try, admit defeat and just buy any old half-decent one that is available is a mistake that we have made time and time again....

Pav, D.Bent, Rebrov, Postiga, Mido etc

The transfer window has a whole month to go... If I was Levy I would bust my arse off to try and make something special happen right up towards the end of the window... It's obvious that there are plenty of decent/ mid-level strikers out there, Hell we have probably been inundated by agents trying to palm us off with the next african sensation, older strikers out of contract, unhappy players looking for a move!!! If you want levy to just take the first decent looking forward he's offered then you need to snap out of the typical Spurs mid-table mentality.. me I tend to wanna dream a little higher.

I know it's not ideal to have transfers finalized so late but I for one am willing to chill the f**k out and see what happens before I am ready to cave in and start panic-buying just yet.

I think we should all take a week away from this thread, enjoy the Olympics and let levy get on with things lol

Agreed!

Daniele Prade - Fiorentina Sporting Director said:
Since the start of the season we have said that we are not selling Jovetic. There is, however, an agreement with the player that (should we get an offer) above a certain figure, we will sit down and evaluate the offer. So far we have not received an offer for the player. He is a top player and we will only consider offers above 30million Euros. He has the potential to become a player like Francesco Totti.

Get it done

Out of interest - how would you suggested we see evidence of suggested change other than taking the approach we did with Gallas and Ade which (to many's surprise) worker rather well, and hope our environment can 'improve' their well-being as players. Either than or a signed affidavit he's a chaaaanged man.

Carrol is a good player who can score goals. Most of the mud being thrown and him is no different to some of the Gallas and Ade comments prior to their arrival. Not to mention those sub-scum songs being sang.

jesus h christ...

Steven Fletcher is twice the player Carroll is and I dont really rate him either...

Andy Carroll must be one of the most overrated players ever to play the game of football

Here's the list of scorer's from positions 6-15 in Spain last year (1-5 are truly unrealistic)

17 Fernando Llorente Athletic Bilbao
17 Roberto Soldado Valencia
16 Ruben Castro Martin Betis
15 Arouna Kone Levante
15 Michu Rayo Vallecano
13 Alvaro Negredo Sevilla
12 Alexis Sanchez Barcelona
12 Miku Getafe
12 Carlos Vela Real Sociedad
11 Salomon Rondon Malaga

There's a few on this list I haven't a clue about. Besides the obvious choices, Llorente, Sanchez and Soldado, would any of the others be deemed worthy as backup to Ade?

I've told you a million times not to exaggerate

A change in behaviour at his current place. Start seeing more professionalism in him, enough to take the impression he is maturing.

Adebayor working out didnt surprise me in the slightest, in general people were holding things against him from years prior and I believe in the time leading up to us getting him he had conducted himself well.

Gallas I was always a fan of as a player but had serious reservations around his attitude, given that Arsenal turned him into an argumentative petulant whinny bitch. I am delighted to say those fears turned ut to not be realised.

However, Carroll in particular has displayed behaviour much worse than those guys ever have - I would want a lot more confidence in his future conduct and dont think "Give him a chance" is really the level of confidence I would like to see before agreeing a multi million pound commitment

Why would any of those be unrealistic apart from Soldado? Bilbao have this mythic quality to them, but if someone comes with money, they'll think about it. As for players like Kone, I wouldn't go near him, what makes him unrealistic?

If Levy actually offered their value, we could probably buy any of those apart from Soldado, maybe even him. Problem is, Levy offers 75% of worth over 5 year installments!
