Let's hope they don't sign Remy then. Although, if they end up doing so, then fair enough, they've moved quickly where we dithered, for whatever reason.

A Swansea City spokesperson has released an official statement regarding the Joe Allen transfer speculation:

“Swansea City can confirm that Liverpool have expressed an interest in Joe Allen, despite a written agreement with Liverpool not to approach any players within the 12-month period of former manager Brendan Rodgers leaving for Anfield.

“There has also been interest from other clubs regarding his possible availability and the club is due to speak to Joe, as originally planned, about the situation when he returns from GB duty.

“The club is not prepared to release any details on whether any formal bids have been made at this stage or details of Joe’s contract, which are private and confidential. The club is extremely disappointed that speculation regarding certain aspects of his contract have been released to the media by parties outside the club.

“Fortunately the club is in a financial position where it does not need to sell any of its players and will continue to work in the best interests of its supporters, who are our priority, and the club to provide new manager Michael Laudrup with the best opportunity to be successful in the forthcoming Premier League campaign.”

What the hell?

Absolutely shocking that this is Liverpool...

Joe Allen wouldn't be that bad as an acquisition, actually. If we could shift Jenas and send Livermore and Carroll on loan somewhere, we'd be left with a CM pool of Sandro, Hudd, Parker, Modric/replacement, Allen, Gylfi and Rafa. A good haul, all told, and considering that both Rafa and Parker won't be around for more than a couple of years....it'd be a good mix. Though the money could undoubtedly be better spent elsewhere (i.e, a goddamn STRYKURR).

So trying to state some Facts re Ade Deal... He wants City to cover his drop in wages. NOT for himself but his charity. Somewhere in the region of £50k a week seems to be the issue and he wants city to donate that weekly to his charity. Not him. He's taking a massive drop to agree to join. He wants to join. We want him to join. It's city and the charity stuff supposedly stalling it. But chill. We'll have him

If we do sign him I'm guessing he will be the Modric replacement.

Ah....well, in that case, we've got better players lined up, surely. The only way I could see that going down well is if we bought him for a lower fee than what's being quoted (ten million quid, perhaps, with Jenas or Bentley thrown in as makeweights) and spent the rest of the Modric money on a top-class striker to add to Ade. Falcao-level one, mind, not Adrian or Remy or the like.

Not sure we have that many options lined up. Moutinho will be hella-expensive and Sahin seems reluctant to leave Madrid for us for some reason.

I would be quite happy with him as a Modric replacement and the rest of the Modric money (if he leaves) being spent on a striker or a striker and a winger.

Adebayor will slot straight in after his year with us last season.....thats why with him especially its possible to delay the signing until just before kick off

fitness? he came in last season with barely any football behind him and scored on his debut

But why does Ade appear to be the answer? Even if we sign Ade if he gets injured or goes off to the ANC we will struggle if we play Defoe and or Kane up front. Whether or not we sign Ade we need to be looking for another quality striker. Our luck with strikers dictates that if we start with Kane, Defoe and Adebayor that Adebayor will get injured and we will struggle to make things work with Kane and Defoe

With all of the ITK stuff mentioned on here, I am the only one who worries that we will be linked to the "world and his wife", only to sign Ricardo Fuller on loan at 23:59:59 on transfer deadline day? #-o

Hmm....it would be risky. Not least in terms of player morale. I mean, to see Modric leave is probably okay with the lads; after all, they've seen the tantrums he's been throwing. But to see Joe Allen arrive as a replacement? You can't tell me that would be viewed with enthusiasm by our more prominent squad members. Except Gareth, he'd probably like him because of the shared Welsh-ness. But the rest?

If we sold Modric, we'd need to make a statement to keep the media from devouring us whole, and that means signing a 'big name', regardless of his actual ability compared to Joe Allen's.

His agent has solicited interest from other clubs, so as to facilitate Liverpool being able to bid for him.

Lord knows why Swansea didn't fully protect their interests and exclude Liverpool from signings players, regardless of bids from other clubs.

Big, strong lad, good on the ball. It'll be fun watching AVB struggle to mask his disappointment while eulogizing Fuller's many 't'riffic' qualities while Redknapp hangs around in the audience leaning on a car door and prompting him with cues of 'lovely lad, top class boy, fantastic player'.

Yeah whatever.

What stops him from earning £100K a week and giving half of that to his charity? Silly me, how could he survive on just £50K a week

On second thoughts I am confused. If City cover the drop in wages and pay his charity then he is effectively not taking a pay cut. And why the heck should Emirates Marketing Project pay the charity when they are selling him for a knock down price of £6m. If I were Emirates Marketing Project I would not pay a penny of his wages, instead give him a choice of roasting in the reserves or playing first team football for Spurs at about 100K a week

That wouldn't really help them to cut their wage budget though. They're in a bad place. They at least seem to want to try and get within FFP...

could it be Levy is delaying signing Ade in order to save on the wages

the saving from signing him on Aug15th compared to lets say July 15th is around 500k if he is on 110-130k a week

every penny counts

Interesting thought. Could certainly explain some of the delay. For example, I could understand Levy delaying a deal from Jul 1 to Aug 1...more counterproductive if you delay a deal more than that

fudge the media and what you have said there is just ridiculous

I think Fuller could have been a truly special player. Obviously that never happened, which is a shame - he had (has?) a ludicrous amount of raw ability with a football.
