I have 100% faith that between them AVB and Levy are aware of every single player in Europe who might be available and who'd suit us.

So when we hear things like "Spurs are considering a move for..." I immediately think it's gonads because it sounds like we're still making up our minds, or that we're making it up on the hoof day to day depending on who suddenly occurs to AVB/DL. Or when we hear that players at Malaga (or wherever) are suddenly available, not for a moment do I believe any of that is a surprise to Spurs, nor that other clubs are sneekily pinching bargains we're not even seeing.

I reckon the lads have it all very much in hand. If we miss out on a player, it'll be for sporting or financial reasons, not because we don't know about his availability in the first place.

BUT, they have triggered it quite late in July, meaning they have a week. The £7million release clause is non existent after July 31st.
Another thing, people saying he is set to join them because they triggered it. Anyone who bids £7m will trigger it, he may not want to go.
Just to end all these links: West Ham activated Demba Ba’s release clause back in June. The player rejected the move. End of story.
From the 1st of August, Demba Ba’s release clause will be changed to £15mil.

^ I still don't understand this Demba Ba release clause? Surely after the season he just had us AND dozens of other clubs would snap him up in a heartbeat for that price

There is apparently an ongoing concern about his potential to break down irrecoverably due to a dodgy knee (I think).

Rumour has it this also prevents insurance being taken out on the player, common practice I believe.

Story is that he had a knee op once. The metal rod inserted wasn't 100% in place or something and could cause problems if he gets a knock.

Well been in England 2 years now and he has proven more durable than just about any other striker? I understand the risk I suppose but surely at that price and his ability well worth the risk

I agree, I think he has shown himself very capable and at £7m an absolute steal (compared to what £7m usually gets you!) but then Im not sure about the potential reprucssions should the worst happen with him.

I guess there must be something holding people back.

Another story says his ACL and other tendons in his knee are hanging by a thread (three quarters of them are gone/destroyed already), so if he takes one more bad turn his career is gone.

I think we need a poll, as nayim said considering the brick 7m gets you these days I defininitely think its worth the risk. That being said you just know the moment he touches foot at the Lane he will be crocked for life haha

one thing about Ba, he dropped his form when Cisse found his form. And what I´ve seen from him, he´s almost identical as Bent. A good poacher on his own, but partnership and link up is not as good..

Not sure thats fair. Playing as the lone man up front for Saudi Sportswashing Machine he was scroing for fun - his dip in form coincided with Cisse coming in which coincided with Ba being pushed to the left.

From that position he aquited himself well as a team player but was no where near as deadly on goal.

Had he stayed in the central position I suspect the goals would not have dried up...

Really don't agree with that. I thought his overall holdup play was excellent for them and after Cisse came in his goalscoring dried up but more because he was pushed out wide to facilitate Cisse and he still was a key contributor even though he wasn't scoring

Would 7m get you a crocked Rossi? I'd be tempted to take that risk (with Spurs money) on the chance he'll come good again. It's a bigger risk but higher potential payback.

could have saved myself a post my thoughts exactly

I think maybe a loan in January with a view to a permanent deal could work.
