Which player would you like to see take over from Luka Modric?

I would see Ben Arfa more as one of the attacking players, perhaps coming in from the Right forward position.

Cabaye would be most welcome in midfield though, cracking player IMO.

Would be the nearest thing to a Premier League-proven replacement we could get for Modric. Shame we didn't go for him last year when he went for peanuts, but I suppose we had no need for him then.

Now, getting him will likely mean spending nearly as much as we would have to spend on Moutinho, possibly more so considering Ashley's brinkmanship over the last few transfer windows.

Moutinho, Sahin and Cabaye are the only 3 suitable replacements for Modric IMO. Cabaye would be third preference, but still very decent.

Not sure Arfa offers much more than Lennon tbh.

Apart from him being a much better dribbler and also has an eye for goal.

Ben Arfa is very hit and miss though, sometimes he turns up for games, sometimes he doesn't.

Imo Lennon, whilst not always putting in stellar world breaking performances, turns up and contributes to 95% of games.

Eye for goal? So does Lennon, I think.

Plus Lennon would count as 'home-grown', and is probably faster over a dead sprint. And better defensively, in terms of providing cover for the RB. So overall, I'd prefer Lennon to Ben Arfa. It would be very, very close though.

I think Dembele might be a decent, cheaper option.

There are surely other options as well, I don't think anyone named Cabaye last summer when we were talking about potential Modric replacements, but he turned out alright.

I'd have to agree with that list. All good players and if gettable you would have to think that Sahin and Cabaye would be considerably cheaper than Moutinho. No matter how much we squeeze out of RM I can't see Levy sanctioning a 30mil purchase. For me we should be pushing the Sahin option as a way to push through the Modric impasse. Sounds like he's not that keen to leave Madrid but I'm sure RM can push him out the door if they try hard enough.

Edit: Dembele is a good shout too. One who we should bid for irrespective of who we get in for Modric' replacement.

when was that pic taken???

Today/yesterday in LA.

he also looks very old, how old is he? When he first came to spurs didnt he have a full head of hair?

50, and not far off.

I see Dembele more in the Huddlestone replacement (if his ankle problems continue) bracket than the Modric replacement bracket myself. An £8m player rather than a £25m player.

I probably want Moutinho more than Sahin, just because I think having him will give AVB his best chance of succeeding in instilling his philosophy (i.e. if our key playmaker is already well versed in it).

I doubt Cabaye would be a whole lot cheaper, Saudi Sportswashing Machine would probably want £20m+. That's what a half decent season in the prem equates to these days.

The last time we went cash-happy on a Saudi Sportswashing Machine flash-in-the-pan, we ended up with Sebastian Bassong!

Please, let's not go down that painful road again.

Saudi Sportswashing Machine won't want to sell either so 20mil is probably not far off. I'm not sure he's worth that.
