He was there number 1 goalkeeper throughout the previous season and that one back in 2000

He was fighting with Illgner at the time. A couple of seasons later he lost his place to Cesar Sanchez, THE Cesar Sanchez.

Thread started already but Caulker extends contract.

Seriously, what the fudge is going on at The Lane!!

Bale signs new deal
AVB new manager
Sig signs
Caulker signs new deal
RVP wants out
Verts 99.99% done
Ade close

Stadium deal next. Commence meltdown.

I have no idea, but he definitely was starting due to the fact he was good enough rather than circumstances.

First season they traded places I think, then Casillas became first choice after the CL win. He then hit a bad patch later and lost his place for a while.

Just had a look on wikipedia, I didn't even know he was on the bench for the 02 CL final, come on the bench in the last minute and pulled off some saves to win it for Madrid. BOTTLE.

It could work, but it is a risk in some ways. The safest option is to Pay off the stadium fully.

I think the other option that makes sense to me is, if the stadium is to be built in 3 years, to use half the additional turnover we expect to generate via the expanded stadium on an increased wage policy now, but then not increase our wage structure for the first three years the stadium is built. Which should even out.

There are probably other ways to do it to.. but that is the one that i personally speaking would pick.

Edit: of course it could all be written off by qualifying for the Champions League once..

Indeed.

So if all this investment helps pay off the stadium - apparently the project costs 400m and we've already got around 200m, 93m spent, 80m deal from Sainsburys, and 20m from London (based off ITK so maybe not the best judge) and if we can sell these namnig rights for 200m, we are there.

So stadium is paid off, it will go ahead, if kept on budget and we will know the money we will be getting. So we can increase the structure now and not worry. As people have said, if we remove a lot of the older players on big wages, we will probably be saving a lot there anyway, so any slightly bigger wages for the top players in the next 2 years can probably be covered anyway (as well as any increases for other members of the squad in order to bring them to scale if they demand it) but if not maybe need a relatively small injection to cover the cost until we move in to our new home.

I'm waiting for someone with more of an understanding of cash flow and accounting to tell me this isn't possible and I'm being silly, but really I think something like this must be happening. No way did we extend Bale's contract without knowing extra money is coming in from somewhere.

I'd love to see some recent numbers. Now that we're delisted, will the club publish financial results like they have before?

Eh, if we're really getting this 'new investment', that swiss ramble guy will write something up on us relatively soon. He usually makes sense, i'll wait for that. :)

I know you say those numbers are not spot on but are we actually borrowing any money? I would imagine from the 200 we have (and 93 spent) this is borrowed?

edit - ah I misread your sentence. of the 200m we have it from Sainsburys, 20 m from London. But this other 93m spent, is this borrowed money or our own money? And the 200m investment, is that due to be paid back ie is it a loan or is it some Arab naming rights giving us the money?
