I'd be very happy if we miss out on Lloris but get Butland.

Silly thing is, I've seen very little of Lloris and absolutely nothing of Butland! So there's no real justification for my opinion. It's just that I've read such lavish praise for Butland and I can't believe that a 19 year old kid with no experience above League 1 level (or is it League 2?) would be picked for the senior England squad unless he truly is special.

That and the fact that I've also read that Lloris is a bit dodgy on crosses - hardly ideal for the PL.

Silly, isn't it, how opinions can be formed on such little substance. Does anyone else find themselves doing similar?

I do the same thing, but there's nothing wrong with that IMO. As you say, to be called up to a major tournament and to hear of our club spending £7m on him when he's played a few League 2 games, that suggests that people in football see him as a special prospect. Would be very happy if we got him. Although I'm not sure how we'd do with a 19 year old in goal. He must have a lot to learn.

That said, Courtois is 19 and won a Europa League with Atletico, so if he's good enough, he's old enough.

'Giovanni dos Santos says he wants to leave Tottenham Hotspur and return to Spanish football.

Dos Santos has made just two Premier League starts since joining Spurs, being sent on loan to Racing Santander, Galatasaray and Ipswich in that time.

"I want to return to Spain," he says to ESPN Radio. "There is a new coach at Tottenham, a new season is starting and it is clear to me that I want to return to Spanish football."'

It is clear to him now. Wow. I am blown away by his intelligence and ability to rationalise. How much per week is he on now again??

so because there is a new coach and a CHANCE he might now finally be able to get games at Spurs, it's clear to him he wants to leave? makes no sense, but whatever

would have thought new coach would have made him more inclined to stay, especially system AVB plays. Anyway, good luck to him....

No idea, not sure on the inner workings of press legality.

Maybe it's just a case of Spurs saying ''listen you fudgers, if you blab about our incoming investment on the airwaves/in your paper and cause other clubs to slap £10m on to every player's asking price we will bar you from ever having access to the club again. You can say what you like, and write what you like, but we won't care because the damage caused by not being able to reap the rewards of investment because other clubs increase their prices will be a lot more.''

The press and the club should have a mutually beneficial relationship. It's in both their interests.

And Iker Casilias was playing CL football at 19, actually I think he may have played in the final

If we get this investment to pay off the stadium, will get that mean we effectively get to 'act' like we have it before it is actually built? For instance if we know we are going to have revenues from the 50,000 per week attendance figures and improved corporate deals in say 2 years, we will know that money is coming. Therefore we can increase the wage structure, and start really competing. Part of the investment can go towards a cash injection to pay for the over spend in wages over the next 2 years since we would still only have the 36,000 per week attendance revenue (which probably won't be that much, relatively speaking to the size of the total investment) and therefore we can avoid an Arsenal style wait to pay off the stadium, allowing our squad to decline and all the money to be tied up in repayments.

Could that work, or is that completely wrong?

From rumours it looks like we're pushing the £100K mark on wages now. It's only a few players though, but I'm guessing Levy sees that as sustainable for a few seasons while building happens.

TV money will also be bigger from next season.

It could work, but it is a risk in some ways. The safest option is to Pay off the stadium fully.

I think the other option that makes sense to me is, if the stadium is to be built in 3 years, to use half the additional turnover we expect to generate via the expanded stadium on an increased wage policy now, but then not increase our wage structure for the first three years the stadium is built. Which should even out.

There are probably other ways to do it to.. but that is the one that i personally speaking would pick.

Edit: of course it could all be written off by qualifying for the Champions League once..

If we manage to trim the squad somewhat our total wage budget shouldn't suffer too much. We have a few high earners doing fudge all.

Bentley and Pienaar out of the squad will cover a lot of it! If we can shift Jenas, Bentley and Pienaar, I wouldn't be surprised to learn that it freed up as much as £150k a week, considering Pienaar is apparently on £60k and Jenas and Bentley must be over £35k each and probably more.
